Saving Grace (Misty Grove Book 2) Page 27

“I’ve been physically attracted to you from the start,” he continued. “But that didn’t really get us anywhere, did it? It’s not how you look, Grace. You may be curvy or rail thin, I’ll still love you because who I fell in love with was the woman inside you. It’s everything about that woman behind those amazing gypsy eyes that gets me every single time.” He kissed the top of my nose before drawing back and clearing his throat. I knew exactly when his sweet moment had passed and he’d reverted to incorrigible Matt.

He squeezed the globe of my ass.

  “Matt!” I yelped.

“Shh …” he cautioned. “I need to fuck you again, but just so we’re clear. You lose this ass I’m going to ask Millie to feed you waffles and fried chicken until you get it back.”

A baby’s cry on the monitor stopped the retort on my lips.

“Now you’ve done it,” Matt groaned.

“You shouldn’t have grabbed my ass,” I fired back as I moved to get up.

“Maybe she’ll go back to sleep,” he said hopefully. We listened for another minute, but Ellie’s cries only grew louder.

“Stay,” he ordered, jumping off the bed and pulling on his boxer briefs. “I’ll get her.”

As Matt went to get Ellie, I crawled off the bed and squeezed my thighs as I slipped into my nightgown. My husband was right, I’d be feeling him between my legs for a while. There was an exquisite soreness in my muscles reminding me of how primitive my husband could fuck.

  And he was all mine.

Matt strolled back in with our daughter and my ovaries exploded the way they always do when I see this hot tableau. How couldn’t they when presented with a devastatingly handsome specimen—tall, muscled, tattooed man—cradling a tiny baby swathed in pink.

At this moment, I could cry with this emotion welling up inside me, but I smiled instead.

I sat back on the bed as Matt slid in beside me. He was still carrying Ellie in one arm as he scooted back to the headboard and sat.

“She has daddy wrapped around her little finger,” I said as we stared at our daughter, Eleanor Catherine Foster. She was a replica of Kate in coloring, but appeared to have my features. It was still undecided what color her eyes would eventually be. Right now, they were slate blue like her father’s, but Dr. Ryan said it could still change before her first birthday.

“Yup, but I’m glad Theresa is flying in this weekend though,” Matt said.

My husband had suggested hiring a part-time nurse/nanny to help me with Ellie. I balked at the idea and talked it over with my mom. She had visited during our wedding and had considered moving here permanently. When I gave birth to Ellie, that idea had become more appealing to my mom. So, she was flying in to stay with us for a few months to help us out with Ellie, and if she really liked it here then we’d start looking at a house for her.

“Do you need help setting up the guest room?” Matt asked.

The guest room was more like a guest suite and was on the other wing of this sprawling house that we had bought.

“It’s all ready for mom. Don’t you worry,” I assured. My husband didn’t really need to concern himself with all these things since he’d taken on extra responsibility by becoming a partner in Trent and Colt’s year-old venture Trident Asymmetrical Corp. With Cassie becoming pregnant, she had to step down from her position as one of their trainers.

As for myself, I was still figuring out what I was going to do, but for now, being a mother was my top priority. There was always consultancy work for the government, but I doubted Matt would want me to travel.

Matt, as always, was in-tune to my thoughts. “Hey,” he said quietly. “No regrets, right?”

Though I was certain what he meant, I still needed to ask. “About what?”

“This.” He curled his fingers into mine and brought the back of my hand to his lips, kissing it, before resting our linked hands over his heart. “Me. Ellie. Our home.”

“Never,” I replied and that was the truth.

“Good,” Matt whispered. “Because you and Ellie are my life.”

  Simple words.

They were all I ever needed.
