Astounded, her eyes went wide, and her mouth fell open while she watched him suck the egg and then pop it out and put it back in his pocket. “Mmm.” He licked his lips as he handed her a few tissues. “You can clean up a bit with these.” And then he offered her panties. “You want these back?”
She snatched them from his hand, feeling every bit of the heat that crept up her face. How was she going to face their friends after having an orgasm in the church parking lot?
He closed the gap between them, gripped her chin, and leaned the last few inches to kiss her gently. “I love you, Abby.”
Her breath caught in her throat. Tears welled up in her eyes. No. Shit. She didn’t want to cry and ruin her makeup after managing to keep herself presentable through an orgasm.
He smiled. “I think I fell in love with you before I ever saw your face.”
Yep. That was it. A tear slipped down her cheek uninvited.
“I saw that sexy ass and legs sticking out from under your porch, and I knew the woman attached to them was mine.”
And there went another tear.
Zane released her, yanked open his door, and jumped down from the cab. Seconds later he opened her door and lifted her to the ground. He set his forehead against hers and wiped the two lines of tears. “Sorry. Didn’t mean to mess up your makeup.” He took her hand and gave a tug to head for the church.
Abby stayed where she was, pulling back on him.
“What, baby?”
“You can’t just lay that on a girl and then walk away like nothing happened.”
His smile lit up his face. “Guess I can.”
She shook her head and inhaled slowly. “I love you too.”
Now he froze. His eyes widened. “I didn’t mean for you to have to reciprocate just because I said it.”
She shook her head harder. “Of course not. I’ve known for a while. I was just too scared to say anything.”
“Why?” He cocked his face to one side.
She shrugged. “I wasn’t sure how you felt.”
He surrounded her with his hands at both sides of her face, leaning against the side of the truck. “Well, you don’t have to wonder anymore. I love you, baby. You’re stuck with me. In fact, I want you to stop going back and forth pretending to maintain your own house. Move in with me.”
And the shocks kept coming. “Now?”
He smirked. “Tomorrow is okay too.”
“But I have a lease. And there are the roses. I can’t let Mrs. Lamphry’s roses die.”
He laughed, tipping his head back and filling the evening with his gorgeous voice. “We’ll check on her roses as often as we need and make sure they’re fed. But I want you in my bed every night, your clothes in my closet. All of them. Not half of them. Not a suitcase that we trip over.”
She chewed on her bottom lip and stared at him. He was serious. “Okay.”
His eyebrows shot up. “Oh, thank God.” He took both her hands in his and kissed her knuckles. “I was afraid you might put up more of a fight.”
“Most of my stuff is at your place already.” She shrugged. “Might as well.”
He laughed again. “Oh, so it’s a matter of convenience, huh?”
She swatted at his arm and then got serious. “Zane Randolf, I’ve never been so happy in my life. I’d be delighted to move in with you, and my heart is beating out of my chest that you’re in love with me.”
“Good.” He kissed her again. “Now, my love, let’s get inside and get this wedding over with before the bride and groom wonder where they hell we are. The sooner we get this out of the way, the sooner I can have you back at the house naked on your knees at my bidding.” He took her hand, entwining their fingers together, and led her toward the church just as someone opened the front door and glanced around. It was Conner. Of course. He waved at them, his shoulders visibly relaxing even from a distance.
Abby’s knees threatened to buckle. So much information in such a short time, and all that following a mind-blowing orgasm in the car. But her world was perfect. Every part of it. She held Zane’s arm tightly as they made their way to the front door.
The sooner they got inside, the sooner the rest of her life would start.
