At their anxious expressions, she began to grin broadly. ‘Well, what are we waiting for? We’ve a new house to move in to, and I don’t know about you two, but I’m starving. I’m eating for two now, remember!’
When John’s strong arm came round her waist, she leant against him, savouring the contentment and happiness she always experienced in his presence. When he gently urged the horse to move, she cast one last look back at the house that held so many conflicting memories, then turned her head and fixed her eyes on the road ahead. The road that led to a new house, a promising future and the happy life that lay ahead for her, John, and the new life growing inside her.
