a sexual force so commanding that she would literally become filled with the fire of potency when giving her bite, allowing her to reign with the most influential man on Dunalino. Women would fawn over her, and men would drool just to touch her.

Blaze desperately wanted to be the man who stole Savion's power—and his Senhora Do Sangue. Having been the front man of their famous rock band for thirty-some years, he had never been able to accept Savion being the one elected by Nahtosha as alpha male. Strange as it was and knowing that Savion's fate had been worse than his own, 147

Blaze's obsession to maintain favor with the ladies overrode reason. Every fiber in his body screamed to be the man bedding the woman strong enough to become the First Lady of the Blood.

His ego simply refused to allow another man best him in anything. Blaze pondered how to sneak Summer away long enough to bite her and take what he wanted more than anything—ultimate power. He fully believed that if he could get to her, Summer would be compelled by the power of her blood to accept the strongest male.

Surely Nahtosha's prodigy will accept nothing less than absolute supremacy. He must've used the clothes somehow. Why else would she be wearing them? Blaze knew he'd seen them up for auction yet had a hard time believing that Savion would use something so obvious. Still, Summer seemed strangely at ease in a pair of men's white jeans and a frayed vest.

Once Summer took Savion's blood into her soul during the sacred ceremony, their force would be sealed for all time. No man would be able to take it. All the sensuality harnessed in her soul would belong to Savion alone. And likewise, by agreeing to bite him, Summer was willingly joining herself to Savion—heart, soul and blood for eternity. Blaze inwardly shuddered as he finished hauling the last of his belongings from the cargo hold. No! No way is Savion going to be more powerful than me.

Summer immediately sensed eyes upon her as she strolled with the band from the runway onto the main grounds. Subconsciously her fingers twisted the ends of a long tendril in nervous anticipation while she did a visual scan of her new surroundings. Clear blue water stretched out for miles beyond a white, sandy beach. Morning sunlight from a vivid blue sky cast a luminous sparkle on the cresting waves as they tumbled ashore. They had been on the plane all night. Her first close encounter with those she hoped would be her new friends had gone fairly well—with the exception of Ciara's intrusive questions and Blaze's attempts to intimidate. Lush, green tropical foliage grew abundantly as far as she could see. Some trees bore colorful fruit, others beautiful flowers. The clean scent of salt air and flowers wafted over her. She drew a deep breath to still her nervous tension. Extravagant villas sat in a spacious row about a hundred feet inland all the way down the shoreline. Dunalino is absolutely beautiful!

Savion removed his boots. "C'mon, my love. Let me show you around before going to the villa. I've missed the island sand and smell of the ocean."

"You must've been very good with finances to be able to buy all this," she said, following his lead and kicking off her shoes.

Savion led her from the airstrip towards the lovely houses. 149

"I am more conservative than many of my friends. I've never been one to fritter my wealth away on meaningless ventures. I must say this is the happiest day I've had so far since buying Dunalino."

  "Why is that?"

He gave her an incredulous look. "Do you even have to ask? I finally have you here. Tonight we'll enjoy a small party to unwind so you can get better acquainted with the others. Then when your strength has peaked, I will invite you to bite me and seal our love for all time."

Summer felt a bit uneasy over a party so soon. "Will I be expected to take drugs?"

"Never, my sweet." He laughed lightly. "Not all rock stars do drugs. Sure we party, but not every day. People we invite to the island are free to do as they choose. No worries—I left my hardcore partying days behind long ago. We are so far away from civilization that there are no laws here. We have only one major rule on my island ... no violence. Anyone caught hurting or threatening another is given a one-way ticket off Dunalino."

"Sounds so peaceful. What did Blaze mean by insinuating I wouldn't last here then, when he questioned how I'd hold up on Dunalino that night I met him for the first time in the restaurant?"

"The love-bites," he said with a spirited wink. "Remember I'd told you that the men will be seeking to taste your blood?

To try and steal you away from me?"

  She nodded.

"There is a strong sexual aura here because of what we have become. When Blaze saw your neck, he knew you were my chosen one. He's no fool, and I'm sure he is already racking his brain for a way to get to you."

"Why Blaze? He has Page. She's so beautiful and sweet."

"Power hungry. He wants to taste the force flowing through your veins. Haven't you noticed, Summer, the effect you've had on men since my first bite? Trey, Nick ... even the coppers had been at your beck and call."

"Well ... I assumed it was because I am with you. Everyone is drawn to fame and wealth."

"Baby, you're too sweet. Trey couldn't have stopped himself if he tried. Once you received me, your sensuality increased daily. All the men on Dunalino will want you. That's another part of the trials on this island."

"Oh." She took a moment to think over his words. "That's another reason you chose these clothes then. So I can wear your protection."

"I am impressed with how quickly you absorb everything about me, and with such ease. As if we'd been joined on another frequency before meeting."

Summer snuggled against him as they strolled barefoot along the beach. He looked amazing as always still wearing the sleeveless black shirt and black leather jeans. She rested her head in the curve beneath his arm as it lay over her shoulders. His inviting scent swirled around her even with a light sweat from the sun beaming down.

"I've loved you for so long, Savion. I can't remember loving anyone else. Each night before bed I imagined what it 151

would feel like to be in your arms. To kiss your lips. Or hear your sweet voice speak my name. Over and over I replayed the visions as I drifted off to sleep. When you put your clothes up for auction I didn't have to decide what to do. I knew instantly which pieces I wanted and that I had to win." Her heartfelt words touched him. He stopped and pulled her close. The ocean breeze lifted her hair, tossing it in wild strands around her pretty face. She stared up at him with enchanting eyes, as deep as the ocean and filled with wild love.

"Once our love is sealed by your bite on my neck, the Dunalino males will back down. Your sensuality will be irresistible but different than the typical female. Others will want to be near you simply to feel the new fire burning in your soul."

  "Sounds a little scary."

"You'll be totally hot, babe. Hotter than you are now." He gave her a wink. "Everywhere you go, men and women alike will long to touch you."

"Like they want to touch you? Have you any idea how many women dream of just touching you?" Savion smiled that easy smile of his, revealing his modest side. "The perks of being a rock star. If I wasn't famous they'd probably pass by me on the street without a glance."

"I wouldn't." She reached up and touched his face. "I'd love you anyway ... rock star or not." Her confidence intrigued him. "How can you be so sure?"

"I love everything about you. Especially your voice. The way you sing and speak goes straight to my heart. Even when 152

  you're being my fierce protector I c
an feel the gentleness of your soul. You are a perfect blend of sweet and dangerous ... both of which I adore."

"Summer, you've become my inspiration. I'm so lucky to have found you."

Something about Dunalino Island made her feel free to speak openly. All the inhibitions and silly insecurities she carried through thirty years of marriage fell away as she stood with Savion in his domain. Nothing pretentious. No need to put on airs to impress snobby aristocrats. No walls decorated with priceless art holding her captive. The only thing holding her now was the deep love in her heart for this amazing man whose power was not superficial. Unlike her rich, late husband, Savion's dominating strength came from within. He didn't need to buy loyalty. His natural charisma drew people to him of their own accord.

She felt unbelievably safe with him despite what a dangerous man he could be. "I feel like the lucky one." He lowered his head, gently touching his lips to hers. She tasted sweet. Easing back just a bit, he traced her mouth with the tip of his tongue, then invited her to do the same. He closed his eyes to savor the tantalizing act when her tongue swept around the perimeter of his lips.

"Bay-beh," he whispered against her lips. "Make love to me."

She gazed into his half closed eyes for a breathtaking moment before following him a short distance to a soft area of rock-free sand. Burying her toes in the sand, she gazed out 153

over the rolling water. Waves lapped the ground making it feel like velvet to touch.

Turning around, she found Savion standing right behind her—a look of smoldering desire painted on his face. While locked in a heated gaze, her hands glided over his broad chest to the zipper. Slowly, she slid the silver metal piece all the way down until her hands brushed the hard bulge protruding against his leather pants. He sucked in a deep breath as she covered his sweat-beaded chest with kisses while pulling the soft fabric from his body. Easing onto her knees in the sand with waves gently washing over her calves and feet, her lips and tongue continued working their way down over his rippling abs. She continued her sensual trek downward over his sexy navel, then to the soft love trail disappearing below the waistline of his pants. In a relaxed manner she unbuttoned his leather jeans, kissing his lower stomach muscles with intense affection.

Savion sighed heavily, sliding his hands into the thick of her hair, watching through heavy eyes as she took him in. Her desire to please enthralled him. Bloody hell, this woman is unreal. The sight of her on her knees, barefoot in the sand with the ocean zephyr tossing her golden hair, was purely heady. When she gazed up with those sultry blue eyes while lavishing him with hot desire, he nearly exploded right then. Everything she did was loaded with such unadulterated passion that it made each experience with her feel like his first time, too.

The mystical aura surrounding this beautiful woman made him feel as if he'd never known any other female except for her. What they shared had grown into a supernatural bond unlike anything he'd ever dreamed possible. Her acts of love were quickly taking him higher until his body quivered for release, hovering on the brink of climax.

" Mon coeur," he murmured, tenderly lifting her into a loving embrace before losing self-control. "You are exceptionally sweet to love me like you do. Now let me please you as I should."

Her eyes met his. "I enjoy exploring your body. I want to please you."

"Mm ... I love hearing you say that, and you please me in ways I can't even describe." His lips bit lightly on her earlobe.

"So much so that I am about to lose control." Strong hands swept up her back, pressing their bodies together. She felt her body tense when his teeth found their spot. Then her soul was flooded with the welcome rush of heat and pain merged with indescribable pleasure. His bite was shorter this time, indicative of his heightened state of arousal. Within minutes they sank into the wet sand completely undressed, wrapped around each other—skin on skin.

"Sav..." She gasped as he filled her with his astounding masculinity. As always he left her breathless. The thrill of making love to him reached a new level of passion each time they joined.

He sucked in a sharp breath as his body shuddered with release, spilling liquid heat into her depths. Their cheeks 155

brushed. Her hair mingled in sweat-soaked strands with his. Their lips met as wickedly hot spasms seized their trembling bodies before they collapsed into each other's arms.

"Bay-beh." His voice was soft and low, his breathing erratic. "My God, you are incredible." Summer nestled into his embrace, basking in the glorious afterglow of the most untainted passion she'd ever experienced. No awkwardness. Nothing kinky or dirty. Simply making beautiful, deeply physical love on a heavenly beach with the man of her dreams.

Following their intimate joining on the beach, Savion had taken her back to his villa to settle in. They spent the day there relaxing while she shook off jet lag. By evening Summer felt well rested and ready to go out.

They arrived at the party fashionably late. Summer wore a black, silk camisole under the charmed white clothes of her man. Savion looked fabulous in a white, sleeveless buttondown shirt hanging loose over sleek, black leather jeans.

"I'm nervous about going to a party so soon," she said at the door.

He lowered his head, giving her a reassuring kiss before they walked through the door. Summer looked up to admire a gigantic chandelier suspended from the cathedral ceiling over the foyer. Large, tear-shaped black, clear and quartz gems dangled from the polished black fixture. She had never seen anything so elegant even among Eric's circle of friends.

"Do you like our chandelier?" Page asked, greeting them in the foyer as they came in.

"It's stunning," Summer replied. "Are those black pieces made of onyx?"

"No, they are actually black crystal. See those little black specks inside each piece of clear quartz? Each one has birthmarks inside so that no one is like the other." Summer nodded with interest. "Amazing. Your home is beautiful!"

"Another bonus of living on Dunalino. Blaze found the crystal and quartz rocks during one of their sea-diving excursions. He had them cut into those tear drops and made into this lovely chandelier."

"Aren't they afraid of another attack from Nahtosha?" Page shook her head with a smile. "No. Our men do not bow down to fear."

"I guess not." Summer looked up at Savion in adoration.

"C'mon." Page took Summer's hand. "Let's join the others. I've prepared exotic fruit treats, and Blaze has drinks ready." Savion walked beside them, his hand resting protectively at the small of Summer's back. Her past experience living among the very wealthy swung to her advantage upon entering Blaze's extravagant villa. Accustomed to elegant surroundings she didn't gawk like a newbie. She simply surveyed the area in her typical nonchalant manner when entering a new home. A spiral staircase in the corner led to an upper floor. Glancing down a hallway she noticed a door that most likely opened to a powder room.

Blaze sat on a leather settee positioned beside double glass doors that had been slid open. Slivers of moonlight danced off his black, silky shirt, giving him a rather majestic appearance in his territory. Miles and Kacie stood on a balcony just outside the doors overlooking the ocean. They appeared to be involved in private conversation. Fresh, evening air floated through the doorway, causing candles to flicker playfully. Reece lay stretched out on a leather sofa opposite Blaze, but Summer didn't see Ciara. 158

"Can I borrow Summer?" asked Page with a pleading expression. "I would like to sho
w her around the villa." Savion's eye sparkled under the low lights. His hand drifted over the back of her hair. "Don't keep her too long." He gave Summer an encouraging wink before letting her go. She looked back to see him join the men as Page led her into another room.

"We like to give the boys time to chill before partying." Page ended her tour in the kitchen and pulled out a wooden chair, motioning for Summer to sit. "Try some fruit. Ciara and I picked it fresh this morning. I'll go get Kacie." With that, Page left the room.

Summer sat down across from Ciara, who seemed indifferent to her arrival. She didn't know quite what to make of this woman who hadn't said much—though, when she did, her words had been intrusive.

"How do you like the island so far?" Ciara asked, then popped a piece of pineapple into her mouth.

"It's beautiful. You must love living in this tropical paradise."

Ciara shrugged. "I've been with Reece so long I never gave it much thought when we moved out here. I like the social life in L.A., but we can't stay there full time because of his ... dilemma."

"Sounds like you have reservations about this life."

"And you don't?" Ciara's eyes burned into hers. The sudden change in demeanor was somewhat disturbing. Summer met her stare straight on. "No. I love Savion. He has brought more into my life than I ever dreamed of. There 159

isn't anything I wouldn't do for him. You have no idea what it's like living in a glorified cage for thirty years."

"Did your late husband abuse you or something?"

"Or something." Summer aggressively stabbed a chunk of kiwi with a plastic pick. She felt no obligation to spill her personal life to this meddling bitch.

"And you have no clue what it's like being bound to a blood-dragon." Ciara shot back. "Always walking around with a secret hanging over our heads. Praying people won't find out what we are."
