A Knight To Call My Own

by Sherry Ewing

Ian sheathed his sword with a flourish. “I am coming,” he answered and watched as his wife disappeared inside the outer bailey.

Whistling a merry tune, Ian began to follow her to help her with whatever task she had in mind. Only God knew for sure what He had in store for them in their future together, but one thing was certain. Ian would follow Lynet to the ends of the earth if he needs must. For Ian had indeed found love in the arms of a small slip of a wonderful woman whom he now called his wife. As far as he was concerned, that was not a bad place to spend one’s life and all of eternity…

  Author’s Note

I hope you enjoyed the continuing saga of the MacLaren’s, including Lynet and Ian’s journey to finding love. I must admit this story was extremely difficult to complete given what had to happen to one of my beloved characters in order for my plot to move forward with the rest of my time travel series, The Knights of Berwyck, A Quest Through Time Novel.

As in my other three books, I’d like to clarify several historical aspects of A Knight To Call My Own. This novel is a work of fiction and, as such, I have weaved my story around actual places and people.

When deciding on my cover art and a public domain image, I decided to go with one of my favorite artists. The painting God Speed by British artist Edmund Blair Leighton (September 21, 1852 – September 1, 1922) depicts everything I wanted for Lynet and Ian. You may recognize Chapter Nine from this scene as Lynet races to meet Rolf and Ian and ends up given them both a token of her affection. Giving a knight a favor was a medieval custom which assured both parties would be reunited, alive and well.

If you haven’t read my previous work, I will briefly mention that Berwyck Castle is a figment of my imagination. Although there was a castle at Berwick-Upon-Tweed at one time, you can find out more information on its existence either in my previous author notes or on the internet.

The first documentary record of Urquhart Castle occurs in 1296, when it was captured by Edward I of England. Edward's invasion marked the beginning of the Wars of Scottish Independence, which would go on intermittently until 1357. Although I have moved the history of this castle back to the 12th century, it was actually founded in the 13th century. The present ruins date from the 13th to the 16th centuries, though it was built on the site of an early medieval fortification (source of information: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Urquhart_Castle).

Today, Urquhart is one of the most visited castles in Scotland, especially for those attempting to spot the famous Loch Ness Monster, Nessie. I couldn’t help myself by inventing a fictional character and calling her Nessa, even though she only makes a brief appearance.

Any reference to the Clan MacGillivray being lairds of Urquhart is a figment of my imagination, although their origins date back to the 12th century. Events relating to Clan Davidson and Clan MacLaren are also a work of fiction on the part of this author.

I hope you find these short author notes on my research for my books interesting.

  Dear Reader:

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for picking up A Knight To Call My Own. I hope you enjoyed Lynet and Ian’s story as much as I had writing it.

If you follow me on social media, and in particular Facebook, you will know that I have a lot in store for you in the future. I am currently working on several projects, one of which will be my subsequent time travel, To Follow My Heart, and will be the next in The Knights of Berwyck, A Quest Through Time Novel series. If you haven’t as yet guessed, Sir Fletcher, who is Berwyck’s captain of the guard, will be the next knight who will have his fate determined by a modern woman. This time, it will have a twist and I hope to have this published soon.

I also will have a novella out with The Bluestocking Belles’ boxset entitled Mistletoe Marriage & Mayhem. All proceeds will go to our mutual charity The Malala Fund and will be released November 1, 2015. You can find out all about us on our website at www.BluestockingBelles.com.

If this isn’t enough on my plate, including my day job, I will also be working on a Regency era novel entitled One Moment in Time that I hope to publish in early 2016. This novel was actually the very first manuscript that I ever wrote and I’ll be working diligently to rework this story of Edmund and Roselyn.

If you haven’t stopped by my website, please do and take a look around. You can sign up to join my newsletter so you can stay up-to-date on what I have going on, sign up for my street team, and also join my member’s area so you can discuss my books with other members.

Thank you again for all your support and especially those who have taken the time to write such marvelous reviews for my current work. I get so happy when I hear from my readers about how much they love my books and characters. You are the lifeblood of an Indie author like myself, who is just starting her writing career. I appreciate you taking the time to write reviews, re-tweet my posts on Twitter, or even like or comment on my posts on Facebook. You are very much appreciated and I thank you for all your support from the bottom of my heart!
