A Different Shade of Violet? Page 34

He finally looks at me and he exhales. “I love you, Vee, more than I’ve loved anyone or anything in this world and I worry that when I tried to break it off with you that I damaged us. And that, I know Danny wouldn’t have ever let you go… no matter what. I never let you go, but I tried to, and I can never, ever… forgive myself for that. I worry that maybe I’m not enough for you?”

“Oh, Hudson please, don’t think like that. You are enough, you’re more than I deserve. I know when we were apart things were horrible between us, but I didn’t think for a minute that you didn’t love me. I knew you loved me still from the moment I saw you again. That glimmer in your eyes you always have around me was there and that’s why I fought to have you back with me. Because our love Hudson, it’s worth fighting for. Our love knows no bounds. I will love you for the rest of time and I swear to you that I love you more than anyone else, dead or alive. You are my priority now Hudson, you and baby bean. Without you I can’t breathe and I’m sorry I made you feel inadequate, but I promise Hudson, you’ll never have to share me with Danny. I am completely one hundred percent yours. Always,” I say and he closes his eyes as a tear runs down his face.

My chest tightens at the thought that me raving on about Danny has made him feel this way. What the hell was I thinking?

I reach over and wipe the tear away. “It’s only you I want. You’re the only man I need, Hudson. I swear it to you. I love you so much it hurts. My chest actually hurts when I am with you, from all the love swarming around in my heart for you. It hurts even more when you’re not around from the emptiness I feel when you’re not here. Hudson, please believe me when I tell you how in love with you I am,” I say and he opens his eyes and that familiar spark is back in his gorgeous multi-coloured eyes, those eyes that I get constantly lost in.

“I believe you. And just know that no matter what, I’m always going to be in love with you, Vee. Always. I just want it to be you, me and baby bean. I don’t need the ghosts of our pasts haunting us.”

“No ghosts, they’ve gone. It’s just you and me, and this little one from now on,” I say while I rub my belly.

He nods and clears his throat. “Okay good. I just wanted to make sure, before we take the next step you know?”

“I know and I apologise if I went off on a tangent before,” I say and he squeezes my hand.

“It’s okay, I’m so insecure about this, but tell me more about our baby girl,” he says finally smiling brightly at me. I smile back as he raises my hand and kisses the back of it tenderly.

I slide into the back of the taxi completely bloated after our amazing meal and deep and meaningful conversation. I feel bad that I made Hudson question my love for him, and now I look back at my actions, I understand why he was thinking the way he was. I was completely inconsiderate of his feelings. I was so happy to have said goodbye to my boys that maybe I should have kept it to myself. As much as it was a good dream for me, for Hudson it just brought about questions and doubt, and I never want him to doubt my love for him… ever.

I notice Hudson talking to the driver and then he slips into the car and slides in next to me.

“Thanks for dinner. Sorry, I ruined it for a minute there, but anyway I had a great night.”

“You didn’t ruin dinner, and the night isn’t over yet.”

“It’s not?” I ask and he smiles brightly.

“Nope, one more stop then we can go home and cuddle,” he says and I nod and move next to him and snuggle into his side. We begin the drive and I’m not taking any notice of where we’re going because I’m too busy kissing Hudson. I feel sorry for the taxi driver having to put up with a pair of thirty-something adults pashing on the back seat of his car. But I don’t really mind, I’m in love and I don’t care who knows it.

We pull up and I take my lips from Hudson to see him smiling brightly. “This way ma’am,” he says and opens the car door hopping out. I take his hand and slide out of the car to see we’ve pulled up at none other than the first place we met – Amor.

I look at Hudson and he smirks. “Is it okay that I brought you here?” he asks and I bite my bottom lip and nod.

“Of course, it is. I love this place, except now I can’t have any Cosmos ‘cause you had to go an knock me up, you bastard,” I say pushing his shoulder lightly.

He laughs and wraps his arm around my shoulders. “C’mon wench, let this bastard buy you a water, or a juice if you’re lucky.”

We walk into the bar and the same bartender as always is here, and as always the bar is empty. I smile at the place where I first fell in love with Hudson’s freaky eyes.

“Booth or stools?” Hudson asks and I smile and walk us toward the stools. The same two where we first laid eyes on each other.

We sit down and he smiles at me. “Happy Birthday baby.” He leans in kissing me softly and I kiss him back and when we part I notice the bartender looking at us and smiling as he hand dries a glass. I suddenly feel a little embarrassed at our public display of affection. Doesn’t mean I don’t want Hudson to kiss me again though.

“Thanks, it’s been the best one for six years, and that’s all because of you,” I say and he smiles.

“Well, I’ll see if I can make it the best one ever. I just have to go to the bathroom, I’ll be right back and then we can celebrate,” he says with a giant beaming smile.

I look at him curiously as to why he’s so happy, but I let it go as he stands up, kisses my head then walks off to the bathroom.

I swivel in my seat and face the bar, and the bartender walks over to me and smiles brightly.

“It’s great to see you two finally got together.”

I look toward the bathroom and smile.

“Yeah, it took a bit of work but were doing good… great actually, and it would never have happened if it wasn’t for your bar,” I say and he nods his head picking up a cocktail glass.

“Cosmo?” he asks and I smile and shake my head.

“If only I could, I’m actually expecting,” I say and he raises an eyebrow at me. “I’m three months pregnant,” I say clarifying it for him.

He smiles widely and shakes his head. “Wow, congratulations! Umm… out of all the times you came into my bar, I never asked your name?”

“I’m Violet.” I place my hand for him to shake.

“I’m Remme. I’m so happy for you and um, wow, I don’t know his name either,” Remme laughs and I chuckle along with him. “My only two regular customers and I don’t even know their names. I really need to step up my game.”

“His name is Hudson. And don’t worry about it, I ordered so many drinks from you and never asked your name either so we can call it even,” I say and he smiles looking over at the bathroom.

“He really is gorgeous, Hudson, I mean. You’re a lucky lady, Violet. But I’m so glad you guys finally got it together, that back and forth tango you guys were dancing was making me nauseous,” he says with a chuckle and I open my eyes wide as I realise he is crushing on Hudson.

“Don’t tell Hudson I think he’s hot, he might arrest me or something,” he says with a smirk.

“You know he’s a cop?” I ask surprised.

“Of course, he has it written all over his face. I could spot it from a mile away,” he says and I shake my head wondering why I never did spot it if other people can so easily.

Hudson walks back into the bar from the bathroom and we both smile at him which causes his eyebrow to rise.

“I have the feeling you guys might’ve been talking about me?” he asks and I gesture to zip my mouth shut and Remme laughs.

“What can I get you to drink?”

“I’ll have a Coke and Vee?” Hudson asks waiting to see what I want.

“I’ll have a soda water on the rocks, twist of lime please,” I say trying to make it sound like an upmarket drink.

Hudson and Remme laugh. “Oh, I love it when you go all hardcore on me, baby,” Hudson says while Remme looks at me and winks then walks over to make our dr
inks. I giggle and roll my eyes at Hudson. He takes my hand in his and interlaces our fingers tightly then looks deeply into my eyes.

“You know how much I love you right?” Hudson asks out of nowhere.

I smile and nod. “As much as I love you.”

He stands up and I look at him raising an eyebrow. “What’s wrong?” I ask while he takes both my hands in his.

“Nothing, I just have a gift for you that’s all,” he says and I smile and shake my head.

  “I told you no presents.”

“Well then, don’t think of it as a birthday present, just an every day, I love you present.”

“I didn’t know there was such a thing.”

“Oh yes, trust me, a life with me means you’ll get many ‘every day, I love you presents’ for no reason at all… just because.”

“Okay, I guess I can live with that, as long as I can do it too?” I ask and he frowns and shakes his head.

“Nope, this is a one-way street baby. I don’t expect anything from you, other than your love.”

“Nope, I call bullshit.” He laughs. “If you get to give me presents just because, then I can give some to you too, just because. This is a partnership Hudson and I want us to be equals.”

“Okay fine, but I don’t want anything big, just having you and baby bean is all I need from you, Vee.”

“Well, that’s all I need from you too.”

“I think you might need something else from me,” he says with a smirk.

“Oh yeah? What’s that? Please tell me it’s a kiss.”

“Well, you can have a kiss anytime you want, but I think this is a little more special.”

“I’m not going to fuck you for the first time since the incident in a bar Hudson, get that right out of your mind,” I whisper in his ear.

He bursts out laughing and shakes his head.

“As appealing as that is, no. Our first time together will not be anywhere other than in our bed. But you’ve put me off track,” he says and then brings a small box out of his pocket.

I look at it and smile as he drops to one knee. “Vee, I know I’ve already asked, but this time I want to do it properly. I have loved you from the moment I saw you sitting miserably on that very bar stool. My world has changed so much since I met you, and for the better. Even half a lung down and I still breathe for you. Every breath I take, every beat of my heart, is for you, and only you. I’m a better man with you, and I’m a better man because of you. You simply make everything… better. I love you so much, and I honestly can’t believe I almost let you go, because my world without you in it, well, I may as well have not been living. I have no life in me without you, you give me the strength to believe in something as magical and powerful as our love, and I know from the very depth of my soul, that I will love you for the rest of forever. So Violet, I’m asking again just to make sure, and with a ring this time, will you marry me?” He opens the ring box for me to see a giant white gold ring. The ring itself is encrusted with tiny diamonds leading to the top where a magnificent purple diamond sits and surrounding the outer edge of the purple, are a row of diamonds shining so brightly it takes my breath away. It’s simply the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen. My hand shoots up to my mouth as I suppress a happy sob. My eyes well with tears while I’m rendered speechless.

“I know purple isn’t your favourite colour, I know it’s red, but when I saw this it just seemed… right. It also has a matching wedding band for me and for you with purple diamonds in the bands, but if you don’t like it—”

“Are you kidding me? It’s absolutely perfect Hudson,” I interrupt as he stands up and wipes my tears away.

“So, um… will you?” he asks as he looks into my watering eyes.

I nod and place out my left hand. “Of course, I’ll marry you, Hudson. I need to spend forever with you, starting now.”

Smiling widely, he places the beautiful ring on my shaking finger, then leans in kissing me passionately. I hear clapping, but I take no notice as I continually kiss Hudson. I don’t care about public displays of affection right now, all I want is to be as close as possible to him. One of my hands grabs the back of his head while the other grabs onto his shirt and pulls him closer. He moves so our bodies are touching in every way possible and he wraps his arms around my waist so tightly, I can feel his every muscle up against my tight as fuck red dress.

Our tongues dance as the emotion I feel right now is beyond any ecstasy I’ve ever had before.

  I am marrying Hudson.

  I am having his baby.

And right now, that’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me.

He slowly pulls his lips from mine but leaves our bodies connected.

The clapping registers in my brain again, so I look to see Remme cheering for us. I laugh, this is probably the most exciting thing to ever have happened in his bar.

I look back at Hudson and he brings his hand up to wipe away a tear I hadn’t noticed had fallen. He caresses my cheek and looks at me with those mesmerizing multi-coloured eyes and I know that I could never love anyone the way I love Hudson Stone.

  “Dance with me little firecracker?”

“Sure thing, rock,” I reply and he lets me go, taking my hand as we walk out onto the dance floor. He wraps his arms around my waist pulling my body flush against his. I wrap my arms around his neck running my fingers through his short hair at the nape of his neck. Feeling his body so close to mine as we start to move to the slow rhythm only makes me want him, and maybe tonight for the first time, I might try to have my wicked way with him. Slowly and passionately, of course.

“Hudson, do you think when we get home you could try to see if you could maybe—”

  “Spit it out beautiful.”

I smile and lean my forehead against his. “Will you make love to me?”

“Remme, can you call us a taxi? I need to get my fiancée home A.S.A.P!”

The taxi pulls up out the front of our home and Hudson pays the driver. He steps out and I follow closely behind while he takes my hand and we walk briskly toward the front door. He pulls his keys out and I look down at my left hand and admire the huge purple diamond and smile.

“When did you buy my ring?” I ask and he looks back at me as he turns the key in the lock.

“I bought it today while I was out with Macca. I did a search online while you were asleep the other night and found it at a shop in the city. So I put it on hold and picked it up while you were packing up at your house. When I saw it, I knew it was perfect for you. Apparently purple diamonds are really rare, so when I knew it was a precious stone I thought, Vee needs to have that.”

I shake my head, smiling uncontrollably. “You amaze me,” I state and then push him against the door and kiss him passionately. He chuckles as he kisses me and fiddles with the door lock at the same time. The door opens and we walk through still holding each other and kissing passionately. My hands are around his neck as he steps backward and I walk forward closing the door with my foot.

We both chuckle as we fumble down to the bedroom kissing the entire way. I know Hudson is dying to be inside me and to be honest I can’t wait either. I move my hands from around his neck down to his shirt and start to work on the buttons. His hands slide to either side of my face holding me to him as we kiss energetically. Our tongues gliding against each other’s as I giggle at Midas dancing around our feet wanting some attention.

We burst through the bedroom door and shut it behind us locking Midas out. He doesn’t need to see what’s about to happen. We stumble toward the bed and I finish with Hudson’s buttons pulling his shirt down his muscular arms. He lets go of my face and the shirt falls from his arms to the floor while I move my hand down to his pants button undoing it frantically as he continues to passionately kiss me while moving toward the edge of the bed. His hands slide down my body caressing me as he goes. His touch setting me on an insatiable fire. Skimming the bottom of my dress, he pulls it up slowly over my hips and towar
d my breasts. He pulls his lips from mine briefly as he pulls it up and over my breasts then my head. I smile at him as he throws it to rest on the floor with his shirt. I undo his zip and pull his pants over his arse and they fall to the floor. He removes them and his shoes casually and takes a step away from me as I look down at his gloriously naked body. He’s lost a bit of weight, but he still looks amazing to me. My eyes focus on his chest and the three little scars where the bullets went in. I reach out and touch the one over his lung, the one that caused so much damage, and I lean down and gently kiss it. He exhales and wraps his arms around my back and unclips my bra. I let it fall to the floor, so I’m just standing in my red G-string. He pulls back from me and looks me up and down.

“Fuck you’re stunning, even with this little pot belly,” he says and I look down and my stomach which is still pretty much flat, just with the slightest of bumps that you wouldn’t even notice if you didn’t know. “I need to be inside you, Vee, it’s been way to fucking long,” he says as he takes his cock in his hand and tugs slightly. The sight makes my panties instantly wet. I part my lips and lick them as he steps closer and pulls my body flush against his. I feel his hard cock against my stomach and it makes me shudder with want.

“We don’t need these do we?” he asks as he takes hold of my G-string and tears the tiny amount of fabric that holds them to my body.

I laugh and shake my head. “You didn’t give me time to answer, they were my favourite pair.”

“I’ll buy you some more,” he shrugs with a smirk and leans in kissing me hard and fast. I can tell he wants this to be rough, but there’s no way I’m letting him exert himself, no matter how much he wants to.

He starts to move me backward toward the bed and I chuckle making him back away slightly to look at me with an eyebrow raised.

  “What’s funny?”

“You,” I say and spin us around so he’s the one leaning against the edge of the bed.
