Manage Me: A Vagabond Romance Page 22

by J. D. Fox

He laughed, tapping his watch. "Everyone is there. Our moms have been there since this afternoon getting everything ready, and Lauren has been running around like a crazy woman trying to avoid Jacob, who's been staring after her like a lovesick puppy. Not to mention the fact that I think Rex might have some designs on Rose."

"Now that you say that let's go. We can't let that happen."

"Why not? I think they'd be great together."

"But I hate their names together. It would never work. Let's go prevent a disaster!" I grabbed his hand and pulled him after me out of the hotel.

Everything here had gone better than I could have dreamed. Ryan had gotten the hotel back to its full potential in a matter of months, and I'd taken care of a few different financial issues while we'd been abroad, including finding some new backers.

A few months after we'd gone to Italy together, Jacob had approached the family with the idea of creating the Baxter Family Venture Capitalist Fund, hoping to diversify the family's assets. I was fully on board and had backed Jacob's explanations as to why it was a great idea. The kicker, though, had come when Jacob had suggested I run it.

"You have the experience and knowledge of the market to kill this, Dakota. You can find new and exciting investment opportunities and help us get a foothold in the European markets while you're over there."

And thus had begun my own adventure, flying all over the continent to look for new, up-and-coming entrepreneurs with exciting new ideas. I'd finally gotten what I'd always wanted: work that made me feel alive and passionate.

It had only gotten better, with the rest of the family filtering through Europe here and there. Every one of the brothers had immediately treated me like family, and it became a common occurrence to have them out there now and then.

Which is why I hadn't suspected anything the weekend everyone had been in town, and Ryan had suggested we go to Capri for a mini break, where he'd gotten down on one knee with the antique diamond I now wore on my finger.

Fast forward five months, and I was ready to tie the knot tomorrow. Not only was I ready, but I could not wait to link my life to Ryan's; my bearded billionaire superhero, the man who'd saved my life.

He'd been the cornerstone of my sanity over the last two years. Whenever I felt the strain of work or being away from my family, he'd pulled me close and whispered, "there's always tomorrow, babe."

And I believed him. I'd always believed that with Ryan, there would always be tomorrow when we could have more, do more, live more.

"Ryan Baxter, I love you. I can't wait to marry you."

"It's what I've wanted since the day I surprised you at the airport."
