Celeste’s brows tugged together. “How did Belladonna get out of her crate?”
Morgan shook her head and took off at a jog after the cat. “I don’t know. Sometimes I think she’s more magical than any of us.”
Christian looked up at her, and Celeste waved before continuing on to the RV. The cat sure did have a knack for appearing in impossible places and always just in the nick of time.
At the RV, Matteo and Jolene were engaged in a struggle with Jolene’s duffel bag. Each of them held one side of the handle and was tugging it back and forth.
“I can carry my own duffel bag.” Jolene glared at Matteo.
“I know you can carry it, but I’m offering to be a gentleman.” Matteo’s lips quirked up in a boyish grin.
“When I need a gentleman, I’ll call for one.” Jolene jerked the bag out of his hand.
“Come on, you guys. You don’t need to have this power struggle anymore now that you’re even,” Celeste said.
Jolene screwed up her face. “Even?”
“Yeah, remember Matteo saved you, so neither of you owes the other. If you have something going on, it’s all from the heart, not from any sense of duty.” Celeste wondered if that was what Jolene had really been afraid of. That Matteo wasn’t pursuing her because he really liked her, but because he felt that he owed her after she’d risked her life to save his.
“Who said one of us felt that the other owed them?” Jolene slid her eyes to Matteo.
“I never felt that way. It was always from the heart.” He grinned down at her. “But now that we’re even…”
“Oh no. I’m not gonna start doing your bidding just because you pulled me out of that cavern.” Jolene hefted the bag up on her shoulder and nudged him with her arm. “But, if you’re nice, I might let you sit with me.”
“Sounds like a good start.” Celeste slipped in between them and inconspicuously dropped half an acorn into each of their pockets. She’d charmed the acorn before they’d gotten on the boat. The two halves would be attracted to each other, and some of that energy would rub off on Matteo and Jolene. Not that the two of them needed magic to be attracted to each other, but Celeste figured Jolene could use a little push, just in case she couldn’t see how right Matteo was for her.
Celeste stepped onto the RV with a light heart, certain the charm would work. After all, she was on a roll with her spells. She slipped into the corner of the banquette and put her backpack beside her. Cal came in the RV, sliding in next to her.
“What was that you gave to Jason?” Celeste asked.
“A list of people that might be in the market to buy old treasure. You know, in case he ever digs something up on that island.”
“Right. I don’t think there is any treasure there, though.”
“Nah, me either. But one could hope.” Cal winked.
The rest of them boarded the RV. Morgan struggled with the cat carrier, Belladonna inside, meowing very loudly. Luke swung up into the driver’s seat. “Okay, everyone ready?”
“Yep. Let’s roll.”
As they drove off, Celeste waved out her window at Christian, who was smiling in his wheelchair. She settled into her seat with the satisfied feeling of a job well done. She couldn’t have asked for a better outcome for this mission. Hopefully, the next one would turn out just as well.
The end.

A Note From The Author
I hope you enjoyed reading this book as much as I enjoyed writing it. This is the eighth book in the Blackmoore sisters mystery series and I have a whole bunch more planned!
The setting for this book series is based on one of my favorite places in the world - Ogunquit Maine. Of course, I changed some of the geography around to suit my story, and changed the name of the town to Noquitt but the basics are there. Anyone familiar with Ogunquit will recognize some of the landmarks I have in the book.
The house the sisters live in sits at the very end of Perkins Cove and I was always fascinated with it as a kid. Of course, back then it was a mysterious, creepy old house that was privately owned and I was dying to go in there. I’m sure it must have had an attic stuffed full of antiques just like in the book!
Today, it’s been all modernized and updated—I think you can even rent it out for a summer vacation. In the book the house looks different and it’s also set high up on a cliff (you’ll see why in a later book) where in real life it’s not. I’ve also made the house much older to suit my story.
Also, if you
like this book, you might like my Mystic Notch series which is set in the White Mountains of New Hampshire and filled with magic and cats. You can find out more about this series on my website.
This book has been through many edits with several people and even some software programs, but since nothing is infallible (even the software programs) you might catch a spelling error or mistake and, if you do, I sure would appreciate it if you let me know - you can contact me at [email protected].
