Edwin gestured to the towels. “We, er, wanted to know if these came in navy?”
“Tut tut. Mr. Redden, did you not manage to stock the shelves properly? I do believe you should have a refresher on the color charts we utilize in my department. Please take down the current configuration. I would like you to reorder all of the hand towels.”
Jasper ground his teeth. “Yes, ma’am.”
Dorothy offered him a thin smile. “Excellent. And tell your brother that his restroom breaks should not be longer than two minutes,” she said, tapping the bright pink watch on her wrist. “Any unofficial break of a greater duration will need to be cleared by me. When he returns, I will need to speak with him.”
Edwin snuck a glance at Trick, who was staring at the exchange and smothering a smile. This woman was a neat and tidy terror, and Jasper and Leif were apparently subject to her reign.
Dorothy turned to them with an expression of polite inquiry. “Would you like me to look in the back for a navy set, sirs?”
Trick shook himself out of his stare and, after a glance at Edwin, set the towels back on the shelf. “No, actually, I think we’re good. Thank you.”
“Of course. Please come by any time, and here’s a coupon for 20 percent off your purchase.”
Accepting the slip of paper, Trick’s smile went wide. “Oh, we will. We definitely will.”
As they left Jasper to the clutches of Dorothy, Trick turned to Edwin. “I never thought I’d say this, but I almost feel sorry for them.”
“Almost?”
“Well, they did make my life a living hell for nearly a decade. We can revisit the ‘almost’ in a few years.”
“Mmmm,” Edwin said, nodding. He suspected Redden’s sons would have no importance to them in a few years anyway. “Should we look at bed linens next?”
“Nah, we can find some online. Navy towels, too, for that matter.” Trick slipped his hand into Edwin’s, and, even though they’d held hands a million times before, it still struck Edwin how right it felt.
How perfect.
“C’mon. Let’s go home.”
Home. Home was where they’d built a life together. Home was where their future lay spread out and glistening, bright with potential and hope.
Home was the joyous memories and heartfelt talks and peaceful mornings and blissful nights.
Home was where Trick was, and Edwin was, and always would be, right beside him.
CATE ASHWOOD wrote her very first story in a hot-pink binder when she was in the second grade and found her passion for writing. Her first successful foray into romance writing came five years later when she wrote her best friend, who was experiencing a case of unrequited love, her own happily-ever-after.
Cate’s life has taken a number of different and adventurous roads. She now lives a stone’s throw from the ocean just outside of Vancouver, British Columbia, with her husband, her son, and their two cats. Her life is filled with family and friends, travel, and, of course, books.

NICO JAYE is a fan of all things HEA and has dragged her romance collection along for her moves from San Francisco to Los Angeles to Chicago to New York and back. She thinks reading is awesome and loves that she can hang out night after night with crinoline-wearing debutantes, brawny firemen in suspenders, and werewolf shifters with Scottish brogues. Her favorite stories are those that marry smut and fluff (a.k.a. smuff) into a gooey ball of HEA and fuzzies.
An overall feline enthusiast, Nico secretly (or not so secretly?) adores Hello Kitty, cat GIFs, spontaneous traveling, pretending to be crafty, emoticons, hot menfolk, and parenthetical statements (not necessarily in that order). After starting as the pitcher for Team Awesome (literally) and visiting places like South Africa, Oman, and Fiji, Nico discovered that letting the boys in her head tell her where they want to go could actually be the most exciting journey of all.
