“You would have done it the same way, Vicki. You know it and I know it,” he winked.

The midwife took care of everything and announced that the baby weighed eight pounds. “That’s a big baby you got out of there.” Vicki smiled. She had finally made up for the baby she had lost. She had given Wilson a son.

Two weeks following the birth of Dante Jones, Vicki was lying in bed, her son feeding from her breast, when Wilson came home from work. “That’s a beautiful sight,” he proclaimed as he watched the naturalness of the naked sight.

“I look like I’m still at least six months pregnant.”

“Lots more for me to love.”

“You have awhile to wait, hot stuff.”

Wilson changed his clothes and sat down on the bed beside them. “We have a few decisions to make.”

“I know.” Vicki wasn’t in the mood to think about the future. She was happy with the here and now.

“Honey, a wrecking ball went through my old home today.”

Vicki sat up and placed little Dante on her belly. “I’m so sorry, Wilson. Why?”

“It belongs to your ex now and he’s determined to own the entire neighborhood. This was taped to our door.” He read the contents of the thinly veiled threat. “Sell your house to me or you’ll regret it. I’ll show you a loss from which you will never recover.”

  “What does that mean?”

“I’d say he doesn’t know about the money. Don’t worry, honey. As soon as we came out here I deposited the remaining money in the bank, in a retirement account, savings, mutual funds and the like.”

  Vicki smiled. “Thank you.”

“Vicki, there was money found in another home in the neighborhood, hidden somewhat like ours. I think that’s why your ex wants the houses so badly. He and his people seem to know about hidden cash, but they wasted their time with my house. There wasn’t even a mouse in my basement.”

A chill went through Vicki’s body and she shivered. Wilson pulled the blankets over her. “You okay?”

“I’m okay. It was just a chill.”

“It’s no wonder, my little nudist.”

Vicki wasn’t surprised that her ex knew about the money. He seemed to sense two things – money and fear. Hearing about Wilson’s house brought the document hidden in Vicki’s purse to the forefront of her mind. In the past few months she had almost been able to forget about it. “How many houses are gone?”

Wilson didn’t want to tell her, but he knew he had to. “There are very few houses left standing, Vicki. Like dominoes, one by one they fell. We made the right decision coming out here.”

“But this is not our home, Wilson. Sooner or later we’ll have to go back.” The tears began to flow and Wilson pulled her along with his son to nestle between his broad shoulders.

“No we don’t, Vicki. My boss wants to sell this cottage and I offered to buy it. All he asks is that Mr. and Mrs. Adler are given a home here for as long as they like.”

“Why did you do that?” Vicki sounded angry and Wilson was confused.

“I did it for us, Vicki, and for Dante. I won’t raise my son in an unsafe place.”

Vicki’s heart was beating wildly and Wilson tried to calm her. “I will take care of my family,” he stated firmly.

No one had cared as much as Wilson did. Vicki had always felt as though she were on her own and alone in the world. “I like the Adlers,” she said.

Wilson kissed her cheek. That was all he needed to hear. “I just wish I knew why the houses had so much hidden money, hidden in the same manner, and yet some houses were empty.”

Vicki hated keeping secrets from her husband, especially a secret about him, but she had hoped it would all be forgotten. “Maybe some of the home owners discovered money, just like we did, and there was money in all of the houses at one time.” That made sense in Vicki’s mind, at least.

Wilson put Dante into his crib and returned to his gorgeous wife. Putting his hand on her belly, he said, “Mmm, one day Dante will have a brother.”

“Hey, don’t make fun of my belly.”

He kissed her parted lips, opening her mouth, and making her feel very loved. “I love your belly. If I had my way, there would be a baby growing inside of you all the time.”

Vicki giggled like a schoolgirl. She had never wanted children until she met Wilson. “Let me see the house just one last time.”

Wilson’s gentle teasing tone abruptly changed. “No, Vicki, I won’t do that. Everything will be packed and brought here. Perhaps one day you can see, but not now. Don’t argue with me on this issue. It won’t help.”

Vicki sighed. She knew he was right. Everything she wanted was right here anyway. When the weather was warm, Vicki and Mrs. Adler took Dante out in his stroller along the numerous walking paths that led into the woods and were a major attraction to the guests of the bed and breakfast. The baby had celebrated his first birthday and Vicki was eager to become pregnant again. She would often lie in bed after Wilson was asleep and place her hand on her pelvis as if trying to will another life inside of her. He had been watching her for a couple of months, though he never said anything, until he caught her doing it whenever she was naked. He turned onto his side, startling her, as he held her hand still.

“It will happen, honey. Remember how Dante was conceived? As soon as you stopped thinking about it, he was growing inside of you.”

“I know, but look at me. I’m thinner than I was before I was pregnant.”

Wilson kissed the dark nipple that was pointed his way. “These haven’t retreated.”

  “Wilson, I’m serious.”

“So am I. You’re gorgeous. Give it a rest.”

It was a chilly evening when Vicki drove into the city to meet her husband for dinner in celebration of his promotion. Dante was a year and a half old and she left him in the trusting care of Mrs. Adler. Vicki wanted to drive by her old house but she was running late, so she stayed on the highway until she noticed the exit for the downtown area. She took Wilson’s breath away when she entered the ballroom in a black cocktail dress she hadn’t worn in a long time.

  “Is that new?” he whispered.

“It’s been awhile,” she giggled. With her blonde hair curled at the ends, she nearly stole the thunder from her husband’s big night.

When Wilson was named chief financial officer and made partner of the firm, it was Vicki who was the proudest. She knew how dedicated he was to the firm and how much his boss depended upon him. Ownership in the firm was as important to Wilson as owning his own home, and no one was more deserving of both.

At the end of the evening, Wilson pressed the elevator button in the lobby and Vicki had barely entered when he took her into his arms and kissed her wildly. He backed her into the corner and pulled her dress up to lay his hands upon the flesh and blood woman who was his.

“Wilson!” Vicki lifted her arms to give herself to her man. She didn’t care if anyone saw them. The lingerie that matched her dress was new to Wilson and the silky material was made wet by the slightest touch of his hand. “Oh, Wilson, I don’t think I can wait until we get home.”

When the elevator stopped, Wilson pulled Vicki’s dress down, kissed her lips as he ran his hands from nipple to nipple and watched as they tented out the little black dress, and led Vicki to a locked door.

  “What’s this?”

  “Open the door.”

Vicki opened the door to a luxurious hotel room. “But don’t we have to go home?”

“Not tonight.” He unzipped the dress and exposed Vicki’s nakedness to the room. “Did you see the men in the room? They were staring at you and undressing you with their eyes.”

Vicki giggled the way she used to and it drove Wilson mad with desire. She lay down seductively on the bed, making a circle with her hand along the spread. “What do you plan to do about it?”

The black tuxedo lay in a heap upon the floor as Wilson drew his wife to the edge of the bed. He wrapped her legs around him and gripped her thighs. Sl
iding the heading of his penis between her pussy lips made her clitoris respond and she pinched her nipples as she climaxed. Wilson couldn’t wait any longer. He entered her roughly, causing his sensual lover to gasp. He fucked her hard and deep. She was always more than ready for sex with Wilson, but tonight she wanted more than ever to feel him inside of her.

“Take me from behind,” she murmured.

“You’re going to make me stop right now?”

“Only for a second,” she promised.

He entered her the way he had when her belly was full of baby and she leaned down to allow him to go deeper. “Your ass should be illegal, it’s so sexy…damn, woman.”

Vicki knew she was sexy, but Wilson was the only man who was allowed to witness that part of her. She moved with him, wanting him to be as satisfied as she. She grabbed onto a pillow as they rocked back and forth together. As he came, he lay over her, holding the breasts that were the envy of every woman and the desire of every man. Vicki spread her legs wide for her man as they lay flat upon the bed. “Stay where you are,” she whispered. “Fill me all night long.”

Wilson kissed her neck and pulled her earlobe into his mouth. “I will fuck you until dawn if that’s what you want,” he said in a hoarse whisper.

“That’s what I want,” she said.

The young couple ignored the strange looks they received as they exited the lobby of the hotel the following morning in the same clothes they had worn the night before. They were disheveled but they didn’t care. They were in love.

When they returned to their country cottage, Vicki ran up to her bedroom to change clothes before Mrs. Adler noticed her wrinkled attire.

  “Hiding from someone?” Wilson teased.

“She’s going to know what we’ve been doing.”

“I don’t think we invented sex.” Wilson loved that Vicki showed her wild side only to him. He wouldn’t share any part of her with anyone if he didn’t have to.

In sweat pants and a shirt, Vicki ran back down the stairs to see her son. “Beth, we’re home. Beth?” Mrs. Adler wasn’t in the kitchen and the inn suddenly seemed very quiet. “It’s too quiet,” she said aloud. “Wilson!” She screamed his name at the top of her lungs and he was at her side within seconds.

  “What’s wrong?”

Vicki began to shake. “Something’s wrong. He’s gone. Dante’s gone. My son has been kidnapped.”

“Maybe the Adlers took him for a walk.”

Vicki ran through the cottage, slamming doors, screaming names, and rummaging through drawers. She felt Wilson’s arms around her, steadying her, and she began to cry. “Where is he?”

“I’m sure there’s an explanation. Let me see if Mr. Adler is in the garage.” When Wilson returned, he held Dante in his arms.

  “What’s going on?”

“Take Dante and go up to the bedroom and lock the door.”

  “Why?”

  “Just do it.”

The crying infant wailed for his mother, and Vicki hurried up the stairs. She locked the door, pulled off her shirt, and led her hungry son to her breast. It seemed to quiet him but Vicki feared she would run out of milk before he was full. “You dear sweet baby. You’re starving.” Wilson unlocked the door and stepped inside. “He’s starving, Wilson. Didn’t Beth feed him?”

Wilson sat down on the bed. “The Adlers are dead, Vicki.”

“What?” She sat up and her son’s source of food was taken from him, resulting in a loud squeal of protest. “Oh come here, sweetie. There’s more.”

“It was the mafia, Vicki, with a note from your ex.”

  “Where was Dante?”

“He was in his stroller. It appears that the Adlers had returned from a walk when they were met with a surprise.”

  “Is he after us?”

“No. This is about money. It seems the Adlers owned a home in the old neighborhood and when it was searched, there was money stashed in the basement. It seems the pattern is that if money is found, your ex traces the owners’ whereabouts and demands more. If they don’t comply, well…you know.”

“But they didn’t have any more.”

“You know the old saying…Where there’s smoke, there’s fire. Well, the same can be said for found money. You were right, honey, when you told me to get it out of the house.”

When Dante was finally full, Vicki lay down beside him, kissing him and warming him until he fell asleep. “Are we next?”

Wilson sat down beside her. “No, honey. Your ex left his calling card out here, a big mistake no doubt made out of frustration or hate…whatever the reason.” Sirens could be heard in the distance and Vicki sat up again. “No, honey, stay here with Dante. He needs his rest. I called the authorities and I also called my boss.”

Wilson left Vicki alone with her son and also her thoughts. She felt guilty about the money and about the past, and she wondered, “Are we destined to pay for the sins of our fathers?” She looked down at her son and thought about his legacy. What would it be? She could hear men’s voices outside and she began to sing softly so that Dante didn’t wake up. When the voices quieted, she heard the back door open.

Wilson opened the door to the bedroom. “Vicki, it’s all over.”

  “Why was your boss here?”

“He and I now own the business together and he was worried. He has done a lot for me.”

“I know. Is he still here?”

“He’s downstairs and he has made me an interesting offer.”

  “What’s that?”

“Three days at home with you and two at the office in the city. He plans to do the same, opposite my days, and when we need to discuss matters of business we can do it out here in private. The time has arrived for our fine firm to leap into the technological age.”

Vicki put Dante into his crib and wrapped her arms around her husband. Wilson ran his hands along Vicki’s back and said, “You may be seeing me a lot when I’m at home.”

Vicki kissed him, pressing her naked chest against him. “Is that a dare?”

  “It might be.”

“I’ll take that dare,” she said as she pulled on a shirt.

“You can’t wear see-through shirts while I’m here or I’ll never get anything done.”

Vicki left the door open and went down the stairs with Wilson following her. She stared out at the woods and when she saw the garage, she stated firmly, “That will be demolished.”

Wilson wrapped his arms around her from behind. “Whatever you want, you shall have.”

  “Who will run the inn?”

“I thought we would hold off on that for a while.”

Vicki nodded. Although they were not looking at each other, they could read each other’s body language. “I’ve been keeping a secret from you, Wilson.”

Her tone was serious and Wilson tried to turn her around to face him but she stood firm. “Sounds serious.”

“There is something you need to see.”

  “Okay.”

Vicki didn’t make eye contact as she left the room to get her purse. She pulled out the fragile document and handed it to him.

  “What’s this?”

“I found it when I was painting. It was the day you found me on the bed. It made me sick to read it.”

Wilson sat down at the kitchen table and read the faded parchment word for word while Vicki looked out at the garage. The yellow police lines were still around the structure and she wanted to tear the building down herself, board by board. It was because of her that the Adlers had died and Wilson had been forced to leave his house. She was his bad omen. She didn’t hear him call her name and he turned around and pulled her down onto his lap. “What do you plan to do with me now that you own me?”

Vicki broke away from him and turned to face him. “It’s not funny, Wilson. It’s not how it’s supposed to be…people owning people.” She bit her lip to keep the tears inside of her.

“Vicki, you didn’t buy anyone. Are you supposed to pay for the sins of y
our father, and if you are, for how long? When will enough time have passed before you have paid the debt?”

“Don’t you see? I’m a bad omen. I cost you your house and I caused the death of two very good people, and I could have caused the death of our son.”

Wilson forced his hand inside of Vicki’s sweats and pressed it against her gut. “I watched my son grow inside of you, right here, and no one was happier than I was. You have given me everything a man could want. You’re a loving mother, a sensual lover, and you have never denied me anything. Is that a bad omen? No Vicki, it’s not.”

Vicki sighed. “But what if I can’t give you another child?”

“Is that what this is all about? You’re not some factory for making babies. You are my wife and I love you. If it weren’t for you, I would have nothing.”

Vicki’s guilt began to fade somewhat but she doubted it would ever be gone completely.

  “Come here, Vicki.”

Wilson led her to the fireplace in the cozy sitting room of the inn and tossed the document into the flames. They watched as the old parchment turned to ashes and all but disappeared. “How shall we celebrate?” Wilson grabbed her and smoothly ran his hand into her loose fitting pants. “I do believe you would run naked in the woods if you could.”

“Undergarments restrict movement,” she teased, swiveling around to straddle him. She pulled at his tight shirt until it was off and then she backed up to unzip his jeans. “These are much too tight,” she giggled as she felt along the hard thick shaft. Wilson closed his eyes at the soft touch of his wife and when he felt her tongue on the head, his breath caught. Vicki looked up at him as she swirled her tongue around and around, going all the way to the base.

  “Vicki,” he gasped.

She had never done this to him before and she was as sensual with her tongue as she was with the rest of her body. She took him into her mouth as far as she could and after only a few times, Wilson pulled her up, nearly tearing her clothes from her body. “Wilson, you play so rough,” she teased. He pulled her legs apart and watched as her breasts bounced on her chest. He licked the brown nipples, teasing them as Vicki had teased the head of his cock, and he filled her as only he could do, taking the sensual woman and watching as she climaxed. “Open your eyes,” he commanded. Vicki watched as Wilson slid easily into her and then pulled her into his arms. She kissed him and wrapped her legs around him as he lifted her up and down easily. She could feel her wetness increase and she knew what was happening. Her body was ripe for accepting her husband’s seed. It was the same way she had felt at the hotel. She couldn’t seem to get enough as she rode him. “Give it to me,” she moaned, and Wilson filled the woman he loved.
