Bull River was chock-full of notorious outlaws who took to task providing their well-oiled weapons and bottled remedies—they all played a hand in helping sort out the unexpected turns this twisting river took. Real desperadoes and rabble-rousers like tracker Jamie “Whatnot” Whitcomb, sultry chanteuse Julie Rose, mountain guide Rob Wood of Rancho Roberto, duelist Allison Binder, clairvoyant Jayne Amelia Larson, Rex “Hook ’em” Linn, the flamenco trilling provocateur Christine “Sevillanas” Champion and the Wild Bunch: Josh Kesselman, Steve Fisher, Jack Leighton, Chris Ridenhour, and Will Lowery.
A big thanks to Ed Harris, the extraordinary man who so expertly brought Robert B. Parker’s Virgil Cole to life on the silver screen: “Feelings get you killed.” And Viggo Mortensen for his continued inspiration as the man of reasoning, Everett Hitch. I’d also like to tip my hat to the whitewater team Helen Brann, Chris Pepe, and Meaghan Wagner. Importantly, I’d also like to acknowledge Joan Parker for her inspiration. Her profound, frank, and perceptive take on the work was intoxicating, and she will forever be truly missed.
