Their Secret Child Page 20

by Mary J. Forbes

Addie's gaze moved to the big sleigh bed with its quilt of russet, gold and green. Across the pillows red, yellow and white rose petals caught the candlelight glowing from the night tables.

Skip drew her against his chest, set his chin on her hair. "One bouquet from each of the girls," he murmured, voice low and oh-so dear. "They wanted to surprise you. Lee and Kat brought the flowers upstairs, while we were getting pictures with the kids."

Her eyes stung. "Oh," she said again. "Ohhh...."

Their wedding night, adorned by the hands of her children and sisters.

Skip turned her in his arms and touched her cheek. "Addie, there will be times we don't agree. There will be times we can't agree enough. And through each and all those times I will love you." He set a hand against the flatness of her tummy. "I swear on our unborn child and the two we already have and any future children, you will be a part of me forever."

Humbled, she gazed at the freshly cut flowers spilling their scents and at the bed with its quilt of clover colors.

The room was a field of beauty and wonder and loving wannth. Joy in her heart, she took his hand and walked into the field.
