Jacob & Aaliyah: You Belong to Me Page 11

by Domaneque Banks

Looking over Jacob's schedule for the day I saw that he had no cases or any meetings. His schedule was wide open. That broad had lied dead to my face. Why the hell was she lying for Jacob and why wasn’t he really at work? My mind started to run frantically thinking of where he could possibly be. Calling his phone he again didn’t answer. Fuck it I was just gonna have to do a little pop up since Jacob wanted to be stubborn and petty. I had given him enough damn space and was fed up with the silent treatment that he had been giving me.

I was going to Jacob's condo right now and he was going to give me some answers one way or the other. He wouldn’t be able to resist or ignore me if he saw me face to face. He just better hope for his sake that he overslept or was tied up with other business because if I found out he was doing some sneaky shit behind my back it would be hell to pay.

  Jacob

When my ex Claudette showed up on my doorstep a couple of days ago I was surprised and angry. Why are after all this time would she just come and say she missed me out of the blue? At first I questioned her intentions because I knew I had been doing big things and winning some major cases. I knew that the news of success was spreading fast just by word of mouth. So when Claudette just all of a sudden decided to pop up out the blue, you best believe that I wanted answers. Today I agreed to meet up with her at her old place just to talk since she wanted me to hear her out.

It had been 5 years since she left me at the church on our wedding day. I thought I would spend the rest of my life with Claudette. I had known her since we were teenagers. It never dawned on me that she wasn’t ready to settle down and get married. I would have respected her more if she would have just been honest and told me the truth, but instead she ran away and broke my heart. If Quentin were still alive he would have told me to slam the door in her face and keep it moving. He saw that I was a complete wreck after Claudette and always told me that is she ever tried to come back that I should kick her ass to the curb.

A part of me wanted to do just that but at the same time I wanted answers. I deserved to know the truth and I needed the closure to put it behind me once and for all. The sooner I got it over with the faster I could see what to do about this situation with Aaliyah. Even though she had been tripping lately we still were together. I just needed some space to figure out if me and her could go forward.

Pulling into Claudette's driveway I noticed it still looked the same way that I remembered. It felt so funny being there again. I mean, me and Claudette had shared the place as a couple for nearly two years. Despite all of the time that had passed, it still looked and felt familiar. Knocking on the door Claudette answered the door. I couldn’t front Claudette was still beautiful. She was still short and petite with a nice shapely frame. The fact that she was Korean and black made her even more beautiful and unique. Her long curly jet black hair hung perfectly just above her fat ass.

"Come in." She smiled as she welcomed back into the home that we once shared.

"Look I can't be here long. I should have been to work hours ago." I pressed.

"Is it not your company?" Claudette questioned.

"Yes, but I still need to be there on time, no missing work for shit that doesn’t matter." I retorted back.

"I didn’t mean to offend you Jacob. I was just asking. Why are you acting like this? I told you to come here so you can hear me out, so can you please lose the attitude?" She huffed crossing her arms over one another.

"Go ahead, try to make me understand that after everything that we went through together, why it was so easy for you to just up and walk away from me as if I meant nothing to you." I snapped sitting on the couch.

"Jacob, when we decided to get married we were both still young. I felt suffocated and forced to do something that at the time I just wasn't ready for. I was scared to tell you. I didn’t want to let you down or make you think that I just didn’t love you, because that wasn’t the case at all. I just couldn’t give you the life that you wanted with me at that time." Claudette replied as she stared at me waiting for me to respond.

"Claudette if you weren't ready then why didn’t you just say that. Rather than lie to me. You made me look like a damn fool all those years ago by having me dressed up waiting for you at the altar thinking we were going to get married, when in reality you just up and skipped town like I never meant anything to you!" I barked, rising up from the couch.

“Jacob, I'm so sorry. Please forgive me. I was so stupid and was a fool for running away. I should have known better or tried harder to communicate with you about what I was feeling. Jacob, one thing that I have always known is that I love you. I never stopped and if you let me, I can make up for all of the pain and suffering I caused you.”

"Don’t you get it? It's not that simple. I'm with someone!" I blurted out.

"With who?" Claudette questioned shriveling up her face.

" A woman who started working at my company a couple of months ago. Her name is Aaliyah." I told her bluntly.

"A couple of months, huh? So do you love her?" Claudette asked as she walked up on me and looked me in the face.

"What type of question is that?"

"A real one, man! Now be real, you think because you some big time lawyer that I’m phased by that coldness you dishing out. I know you Jacob like the back of my hand and there is no way that you can tell me that you are in love with this chic after only a couple of months." She pressured grabbing my hands

"You right, maybe I'm not in love, but I do love Aaliyah. We both lost people that were close to us at the same time. She was the only woman that was there for me besides my mother when Quentin was killed.”

"I'm so sorry Jacob. I should have been here for you. I know that was hard for you to deal with.”

"You have no idea." I snatched my hands out of hers.

"Jacob, please try to understand." Claudette said as she rubbed my face. The way that she used to stand on her tiptoes to reach me was still something she had to do.

"Why now after all this time?" I questioned feeling the walls that I had built up against my heart start to shatter.

"I don’t know Jacob. I could sit here all day and shoot a bunch of lies to make you feel better, but all I can do is give you the truth. I made the mistake of not being woman enough to tell you how I felt. I ran away and I'll always regret making that choice, but now I'm standing here older and wiser and more determined than ever to make things right between us." Claudette said looking into my eyes again.

Damn, I missed everything about this woman. Had I been so blind that I pushed all of the feelings that I had behind me? Because in that moment, I felt like my heart was about to beat outside of my own chest. I knew I owed Aaliyah more, but I knew standing here with Claudette that there was still a part of me that was connected to her. Before I knew it, I had pushed Claudette up against the wall and started to run my fingers through her hair.

"God I missed you." Claudette cried as we kissed. Her lips tasted just the way I remembered. As I kissed her hungrily, I knew I had to have Claudette right then and there. I needed to be with her. To feel her body next to mines and to know that everything that she told me was real. Picking her up by the waist. I started to make my way back to our old bedroom when all of a sudden I heard a crash, within seconds a huge brick flew into the window.

"Omg put me down babe what is that?" Claudette asked scared as hell.

"I don’t know stay right here." I said as I looked out the blinds.

As I looked outside my heart started to sink as I immediately spotted Aaliyah's car.

How the hell had she found me? Had she followed me here? My mind was running with what could have possibly led her to Claudette's house?

Suddenly Claudette screamed as I turned around I saw Aaliyah had grabbed her from behind and placed a cloth over face. Within minutes Claudette was passed out. Aaliyah threw her body to the floor.

"Noooo, Aaliyah don’t do this! I can explain." I yelled.

"Explain what? You been ditching me fo
r two weeks to reconnect with this bitch. You were about to fuck her!" Aaliyah barked as she rushed up in my face and began to hit me all over.

"Calm down!" I yelled trying to grab her hands but she wouldn’t let me get a hold of her.

"You are just like him!! You lied and tried to play me just like Devonte!! You don’t love me you fucking piece of shit!!” She yelled.

“Stop!! Let me explain!" I roared.

"It's nothing that you can explain to me. You are a liar just like my fucking ex! I’m going to kill you just like I killed his ass!" She screamed.

"What the fuck? You really are crazy!" I yelled as I turned my back to check on Claudette.

"Nigga I'm bout to show you just how crazy I really am!" Pop!

I felt something crack against my head before my world turned completely black.
