• The wedding day has arrived
Bella is nervous; Edward is keeping the honeymoon destination a secret; Alice and Rosalie work all day on Bella‘s makeup and hair; Charlie and Renée give Bella a set of silver hair combs; Charlie escorts Bella down the stairs
• As soon as Bella sees Edward at the altar, all her fears are gone
CHAPTER 4
• The reception is in the backyard, at twilight
Edward and Bella greet their guests
• Jacob steps out from the woods; Edward leaves so he and Bella can talk alone
• Jacob is horrified to hear that Bella is planning a ―real‖ honeymoon before she becomes a vampire; he grabs Bella and shakes her
Edward is instantly there; Jacob is ready to kill him; Seth and two wolves shove Jacob back into the woods
• Bella composes herself and they go back to the reception
• Bella says a tearful, loving goodbye to Renée and Charlie
CHAPTER 5
• Bella and Edward leave for their honeymoon: they take a plane to Houston, a second one to Rio de Janeiro, and then a boat to Isle Esme
• Edward carries Bella across the threshold; he goes for a midnight swim, waits for Bella in the water
Bella takes a shower to calm down
• Edward is afraid of hurting Bella
• In the morning, Bella wakes to a feeling of pure happiness Edward is angry at himself — he points out the bruises all over Bella‘s body; he berates himself for hurting Bella; she tries to convince him that she is fine, she is happy
• Edward gets up to fix breakfast for Bella, and she asks him if he plans to avoid touching her for the rest of the honeymoon

• Bella has nightmares about the Volturi and a vampire child, and wakes up crying Bella wants Edward so much; she pleads with him, kisses him; they make love; Edward and Bella are both happy in the morning; Bella gets woozy; the Brazilian cleaning people come; the native woman suspects what Edward is and she is frightened for Bella
CHAPTER 7
• Bella awakes from another dream about the Volturi and the child Edward has gone hunting; Bella fixes herself fried chicken but it tastes wrong so she throws it out
• When Edward gets home Bella starts throwing up; the pieces fall into place; she realizes she must be pregnant
• Bella touches her stomach and feels a little nudge; Edward is stunned
• Alice calls; Bella talks to Carlisle, tells him her theory; he asks some medical questions and agrees she is pregnant
• Edward starts making travel arrangements while hurriedly packing; Bella doesn‘t understand why Edward seems furious
• Bella feels another nudge; she is surprised at how much she already loves her little nudger
• Edward tells her not to be afraid, that he won‘t let the ―thing‖ hurt her
• Bella sneaks a phone call to Rosalie to ask for help
CHAPTER 8, BOOK TWO — JACOB
• Paul has imprinted on Jacob‘s sister Rachel, and no one is pleased; Paul is annoying everyone
• Jacob is waiting to hear about Bella
Jacob spends an afternoon with Quil and Claire
• Sam calls a meeting of the pack; Edward and Bella have returned Jacob feels the treaty has been broken and the wolves should attack; Sam declares that the Cullens are not a danger
CHAPTER 9
• Jacob decides to kill Edward on his own
Carlisle meets Jacob at the door, and Bella calls to Jacob from inside; Jacob sees Edward, who looks like he‘s in agony, half-crazed; Bella is still human but looks sick and haggard — she is pregnant
• Edward takes Jacob outside to talk
Edward looks like a man being burned at the stake; he knows it‘s all his fault; he had no idea this could happen; Rosalie is protecting Bella; Edward asks Jacob to talk to Bella, to tell her she can have a baby with him; Jacob knows Bella will reject him; Edward promises Jacob that the moment Bella‘s heart stops beating, he will beg Jacob to kill him; Jacob tells him they have a deal
CHAPTER 10
• Jacob and Bella speak privately
Bella believes Jacob will imprint on someone and everything will make sense; Bella doesn‘t expect to survive as a human; Bella understands what Edward has sent Jacob to offer, and won‘t consider it; Jacob feels an addiction to be with Bella, but he wants to leave
• The pack decides the risk of this new creature is too great — they will attack the Cullens Sam plans their strategy, and uses the Alpha voice to ensure obedience
CHAPTER 11
• Jacob struggles against Sam‘s order to obey
Jacob is the true Alpha — he was not born to kneel to Sam
• Jacob breaks from the pack; he will stand between the pack and the Cullens
• Jacob leaves to warn the Cullens
Seth breaks from the pack and joins Jacob; they patrol the Cullens‘ land
• Bella‘s condition worsens
CHAPTER 12
• Leah also breaks from the pack and joins Jacob
Leah is irritating; Jacob doesn‘t want to lead a pack; Leah wants to be free of Sam
• Carlisle and Jacob talk; Carlisle is frustrated because he can‘t figure out what the fetus wants; Jacob has a thought about blood, and Edward hears the thought and shares it with the others; Bella agrees to give blood a try
CHAPTER 13
• Jacob stays with Bella — he doesn‘t want to miss the last few minutes of her life Jacob feels that his presence helps Bella
• Bella drinks a cup of blood; it tastes good, and she immediately feels stronger
• Jacob is called to a meeting with some of Sam‘s pack; they want Jacob, Seth, and Leah to rejoin them, but all three say no; Jacob thinks the Alpha bond is permanent
CHAPTER 14
• Bella is better; her whole face lights up when she sees Jacob
• Jacob starts taunting Rosalie with blonde jokes
• The fetus breaks one of Bella‘s ribs
• Alice gets headaches around Bella; she feels better near Jacob
• The Cullens give food and clothes to the now homeless wolves; Jacob and Seth accept, but Leah doesn‘t
CHAPTER 15
• Bella and Charlie talk on the phone; neither Edward nor Jacob condones this
• Bella asks for Jacob; her face lights up again when she sees him Jacob sits next to Bella to keep her warm; Rosalie brings Jacob food in a dog dish
• Bella says Carlisle thinks the baby will be born within four days Jacob feels his ties to Bella get even stronger; Bella thinks that Jacob is supposed to be in her life, but not like this — like they got off track somehow
• Edward tells Jacob about old myths that say vampire babies chew their way out of the womb
CHAPTER 16
• Jacob‘s pack is still protecting the Cullens‘ land
Jacob congratulates Leah on being less annoying than Paul; Leah thinks Jacob makes a good Alpha; Jacob teaches Leah how to better enjoy eating as a wolf
• All the Cullens go hunting except Edward and Rosalie
• Edward hears the baby‘s thoughts: The baby is happy and adore

• Edward hears Jacob‘s pain and gives Jacob the car keys and tells him to get away
CHAPTER 17
• Jacob races away toward Seattle
Jacob hopes he can imprint on someone so he won‘t hurt over Bella anymore; he compares everyone to Bella; he goes back to be with her
• Edward tells Jacob they want to deliver the baby early — tomorrow
• Edward asks Jacob, the true Alpha, to grant him permission to save Bella In anguish, Jacob consents
• Bella bends and there is a ripping sound followed by a shriek of pain
CHAPTER 18
• Bella is semiconscious; her body jerks and twitches; there is a wild thrashing in her body, and sharp snaps and cracks
Edward injects Bella with morphine; Rosalie uses a scalpel to cut Bella‘s skin; blood gushes out, and Rosalie‘s eyes glint with thirst; Jacob knocks Rosalie out the door, hitting her in the face and gut; Alice drags Rosalie away; Rosalie does not fight back
• Jacob performs CPR
• Edward uses his teeth to get to the baby; Jacob doesn‘t look away from Bella‘s face Bella sees the baby, Renesmee, then gasps; Edward snatches the baby away
• Jacob continues CPR as Bella‘s eyes roll back; her heart falters Edward injects a syringe of his venom into Bella‘s heart; he bites her in more places to force venom into her body

• After two days Bella‘s heart stops; she opens her eyes
CHAPTER 20
• All of Bella‘s senses are magnified: sight, smell, taste, hearing, touch A touch sends Bella into a defensive crouch, until she sees it was Edward; Bella gasps at the beauty of Edward‘s face, voice, and scent

Jacob phases in front of Charlie, then tells Charlie that Bella has changed, that she and Edward are caring for a special baby; Jacob starts to tell Charlie more, but Charlie wants to hear as little as possible — he‘d like to remain on a need-to-know basis; everyone is angry with Jacob, but Jacob didn‘t realize the danger or the pain he was causing Bella; Alice has colored contacts for Bella, to fool Charlie; Bella gets a crash course in acting human; Bella instructs Renesmee not to touch or bite Charlie

• Irina comes to apologize but sees Renesmee from a distance and assumes she is an immortal child; Irina runs away
CHAPTER 28
• Alice has a vision of the Volturi and warns the others that they‘re coming Irina has gone to the Volturi with her mistaken assumption; the Volturi plan to destroy the Cullens
• The Cullens need friends to witness for them, to make the Volturi hesitate
• Alice and Jasper leave hurriedly
• Bella tells Jacob that it‘s over, that they‘ve all been sentenced to die
CHAPTER 29
• Alice and Jasper are gone
• Alice leaves a note listing the friends the Cullens need as witnesses
• Alice also leaves a secret note for Bella, in a copy of The Merchant of Venice, about J.
Jenks; Bella realizes she needs to keep the note from Edward
• The Cullens split up to find their witnesses; Edward and Bella stay home to let their expected visitors see Renesmee for themselves
CHAPTER 30
• Bella wants to learn to fight so she can defend herself and her family Edward explains the Volturi‘s strengths; Bella hopes she is immune to some of their gifts
• The Denalis arrive and are horrified to see Renesmee, who they think is an immortal child
Edward convinces them that Renesmee is half-vampire, half-human; they each let Renesmee touch them and show them her story
• The Denalis agree to witness, and feel sad that Irina is the cause of the danger
CHAPTER 31
• Eleazar, who has the gift of sensing the gifts of others, mentions that Bella is a shield Bella and Edward are surprised; Kate wonders if Bella can project her shield onto others
