Red Desert cactus wren - Campylorhynchus brunneicapillus rubidesertum R.
red-eyed cuckoo - Coccyzus erythroventrorostrum R. is a large (12"-14") cuckoo of the woods edge and orchards of the northern coast of the Dark Continent, with a grey back, white belly and a black tail with large white spots which flash conspicuously when it springs into flight. Its upper mandible is black and its lower mandible is bright vermilion, as is the skin encircling its eye. It has two calls, one resembling that of the yellow-billed cuckoo and the other nearly identical to that of the Black Forest cuckoo. As with certain of its relatives, it is a parasitic layer, choosing a half dozen or better occupied nests of other species to receive an egg apiece to raise. It subsists mainly on tent caterpillars, but will also eat the larvae of any lepidopterid.
red maidenhair - Ginkgo erythrofolium R. is a deciduous broadleaved gymnosperm living throughout the Maidenhair Woods in the Eternal Mountains of the Eastern Continent where it overwhelmingly predominates at elevations below 8000 feet. It ranges in height from sixty to ninety feet, the taller trees occurring in low places. It has the interesting ability to thrive under the canopy of the maidenhair trees, Ginko biloba ingentissima R. where the two species overlap. The red bottom surfaces of its leaves are thought to enable it to thrive in low light conditions. Its dried leaves bear alkaloids, which when chewed by the Elves like tobacco, steadies their nerves.
