My wonderful children have sustained me in ways I never dreamed possible. I owe so much to them. Visits to my daughter Laura, who lives in Nepal, provided invaluable background to the sections set in India. In England, my son Nicholas gave unstintingly of his quiet good humour and his intelligence. They encouraged me throughout and I could not have completed this book without them.
