She wanted so desperately to return the sentiment to him, so when he was finished, she removed his shoes and socks as he had for her. Trying to be as gentle and soothing as he had been, she trickled the water over his feet, beautiful feet for a man by anyone’s standards, and massaged it into his flesh. His smile was breathtaking as he watched her care for him, removing some of the burdens of life, and she felt a deep swelling inside her chest. This was so much more than she had anticipated and she was glad he wanted to share it with her.
They left their shoes and socks by the rock and padded barefoot over the smooth, mossy stones to the temple resting beneath a pagoda. Charles gently turned her to face him and motioned for her to sit cross-legged opposite him on the concrete slab. Taking a deep breath in, Charles smiled at her, and her stomach did a flip. He was gorgeous.
“Now, all we have to do,” Charles whispered, placing his hands flat on his knees and nodding for her to follow. “Is think of a chant that will clear and focus our mind. Once idle thoughts pass, we focus on whatever question is seated in our soul. Hopefully, the answer will come to us by way of the flow of the universe.”
He should have sounded crazy. Scarlett knew it was a little crazy, but something inside of her told her that no matter how odd, or crazy he got, she would follow Charles instinctively off the edge of the universe if he asked her to. In Thailand, nothing was strange or crazy. Any questions or qualms about life somehow all made sense. Was it a grand illusion of the tropics, or simply something more magical in the air?
With a deep breath, Scarlett followed his directions, inhaling and exhaling slowly. Once she developed a rhythm with her breathing, she found herself stumped for what to ask the universe.
Go figure, Scarlett, she reprimanded herself for being so typically her and not having any idea of what she wanted out of life.
She could have easily asked if Charles would ever get over Julia, or if it was going to last between the two of them. Perhaps another good question would have been whether the beast inside Charles was something that would ever fully surface and remain, or if he would be fighting its existence his entire life. She could have asked anything, but she wanted to find that one burning question that she needed an answer to. And then there it was, crawling up out of the depth of the deepest recess of her troubled mind. Her own beast climbing to the surface.
Was she worth loving?
Did she deserve to be loved?
All this time, it had never once occurred to her that perhaps the reason Charles was distant and cold most of the time, was because maybe he didn’t see her as someone worth loving. An age-old insecurity that reared its ugly head in the face of every love disaster in her lifetime. It was the one thing she had never dared to voice in her earlier sessions with Charles and especially not since she learned of his own troubles. With her marriage being such an epic failure as far as relationships go and then ending up in a confusing love triangle with a man and his dead wife, it hurt her sense of worth. If she was honest with herself, Scarlett wondered if any man would ever be capable of loving someone like her.
Closing her eyes, she asked the universe her most unforgiving question, not expecting anything in return. She almost laughed at herself. The answer could just as easily have been waiting for her in a self-help book or on the lounge of a new Psychiatrist. She certainly didn’t think it would be whispered to her on the wind in the jungles of Thailand, and yet there she was. When she opened her eyes, and let it go, knowing the answer would find her eventually, if not right then and there, she was greeted with an extraordinary vision.
Charles was smiling and crying. He had received the answer to whatever it was that he’d asked the universe, but what did it mean for her? She bit her lip, her brows furrowed with disappointment that the world hadn’t opened up to her as it had to him. Feeling suddenly foolish that she even thought it could, she smiled back and touched his hand.
I’m happy for you, she thought.
CHAPTER SIX
The rush to get back to the hotel was a like a whirlwind, not unlike their dizzy relationship, and Scarlett fought to keep up with Charles as he dragged her to their room. He hadn’t told her what he had experienced on that peak in the jungle, but it must have been something incredibly powerful. Jealousy took her, but she quickly pushed it down.
Scarlett could feel her blood pumping through her veins like a violent river, her heart racing at the thought of what might happen next. Where were they headed? What was in store for her life? Once, she had thought that marriage and her career as a lawyer meant everything to her. With her blood coursing through her veins and her heart beating erratically in her chest from the excitement Charles drew from her, Scarlett realized there were more adventures ahead of her. Things were changing, and would always be changing, as that was the way life worked. Maybe that was what she needed instead of having to feel loved. Maybe she only needed to love herself and her life for what it was and what it could someday be.
Feeling as if she was stepping out of a shed skin, a skin that had been suffocating her for what could have been the better part of a decade, she exhaled breathlessly as they reached their room. Scarlett let Charles remove her clothes. He took his time doing it. Peeling the clothing from her body slowly, his eyes catching the light as he admired every inch of her. There was no anger or resentment in his eyes. She saw a glimpse of the original attraction they had shared that cold night on her parent’s balcony. The sizzle that had drawn them together in the first place and that made her rethink sexual desire and connection altogether. Snapping back to the present, she felt shaken.
It was like a race to get him undressed, and as always, the seductive beauty of his body made Scarlett wet with need, but this time something more. She wanted to be consumed by him. She wanted him to ravage her completely. Scarlett wanted to feel Heaven through his movements inside of her.
Quietly, they moved to the bathroom where Charles turned on the shower and drew her beneath the warm jets. He reached for a bar of sweet smelling soap and lathered it in his hands before rubbing the suds into her skin. Scarlett’s head fell back as he washed her breasts, stomach and between her legs at the place she ached for him. Water clung to her eyelashes as she peeked out at him to find him smiling at her in a most peculiar way.
“What happened up there?” She whispered.
“I saw us.” Was all Charles said before placing his lips against hers in an achingly slow, tender kiss.
It was not the kiss of a man in crisis, or a man fighting demons in his mind and heart. This was the kiss a man gave a woman he wanted to keep around. Scarlett’s heart nearly jumped out of her chest and had it been a 50’s movie, her leg would have popped up behind her. It was that good.
Drying them both off, Charles walked her slowly to the bed, letting her fall down on the mattress with her damp hair fanned out behind her. He approached her in slow motion, running his hands gently up her bare legs before following their shape with his lips and tongue. A shiver passed through her as he stopped just shy of the tops of her thighs, just before reaching her swollen, pulsing sex. She was throbbing for him, especially as she caught a glimpse of his hard cock, twitching in anticipation of penetrating her.
Sitting between her thighs, he lifted one of her legs in the air and brought her toes to his lips. He kissed each one separately before sucking them into his mouth as if he was trying to pull the marrow from her bones. Scarlett moaned, her hands instantly moving to cover her breasts, her nipples hard beneath her palms as he pulled her blood towards the tips of her toes. Charles lavished her feet with attention before finally, he spread her legs wide and crawled on top of her. His big, muscular body blocking the sunlight shining in through the patio doors.
He hung over her, suspended so close that she could taste his warm breath as she pulled it in with her own. Scarlett’s eyes traveled down his perfectly chiseled chest to his rocks hard abs and the source of her greatest pleasure as it swung between his legs. She whimpered as another pang of des
ire flooded her swollen pussy. The anticipation was driving her mad, but she knew Charles well enough to know that getting what she wanted wouldn’t come so easily.
“I want you,” He breathed, her whole body going up in flames at his words.
Charles brought his head down to her neck and began to nibble and suck the soft flesh there, the way he had on her toes. He slid one hand up against her pubic bone in a light tease, before traveling higher to land on her breast. Holding it in his hand, he tested its weight before firmly massaging it against his palm. With his lips still on her neck, goose bumps covered her skin. Hot and cold all at once.
He let his lips move slowly up to her earlobe where he gently bit down causing her to shiver. “Tell me what you want me to do to you.”
Heat rolled through Scarlett’s body at his demand, only this wasn’t angry or humiliating; it was damn sexy.
“Have your way with me,” She whispered quietly, biting her lip as color spilled into her cheeks.
“No,” Charles commanded, making her pussy tighten so swiftly in response that she gasped. “Be specific. Say it out loud, or I’m not gonna hear you.”
“Please,” She begged, arching her body against him, trying to bring their flesh into contact.
“Please, what?” Charles growled near her ear, his cock swinging like a pendulum between them, counting the minutes before it would penetrate her the way she ached for him to. “Tell me what you want, Scarlett.”
“I want you to slide your hot cock into my dripping wet pussy and make me cum – hard,” She shouted and was rewarded by an immediate thrust into her welcoming body, pushing it in as slow as he could manage.
“Yes,” She whimpered, arching her hips greedily, trying to get closer.
When he finally filled her up, Scarlett sighed with delight, a smile playing on her quivering lips.
“Like this?” Charles murmured, pulling out and then sliding slowly back into her.
“Like that,” She confirmed breathlessly, feeling remarkably close to an orgasm and they’d only just begun.
“Or like this?” Charles said between gritted teeth as he pulled out and then plunged back into her with greater force.
His hips rocked over hers in time with every thrust as he pounded his cock into her, pressing up against her g-spot deep inside as hard as he could. Every time he pushed forward, Scarlett found the air rushing out of her lungs making her light-headed. She couldn’t even moan.
“Yes,” She choked out.
“Are you sure this is what you wanted?” He asked.
Scarlett nodded, unable to make a sound. Charles chuckled and pulled out abruptly, climbing fully onto the bed and crossing his legs. He pulled her on top of him as though she were as weightless as a rag doll. Scarlett knew what Charles wanted and quickly wrapped her ankles around the small of his back as he lowered her onto his wet cock. When he impaled her, she screamed so loudly, Scarlett was afraid someone might think he was abusing her.
“Or do you like this better?” He asked, looking deeply into her eyes.
“Yes!” She cried out, rocking back and forth on his cock as his hands urged her hips forward.
Her whole body was beaded with sweat and shaking, but Charles wouldn’t relent. He kept his eyes on hers as he moved her over his cock firmly. He caught her bottom lip between his teeth and sucked it deeply into his mouth. Scarlett’s breasts ached as they pressed up against his hard chest and she could feel her orgasm building higher and higher.
“More,” She urged, moving her hips more quickly.
Charles responded by lowering his head and tonguing her achingly taut nipples as they rocked together fiercely on the bed. Scarlett gasped, tugging on his hair as her fingers tangled through it and it wasn’t long before her body was overtaken by the strongest orgasm she’d ever had, pulsing over and over again. Charles flipped her over and began to thrust wildly, prolonging her ecstasy while he searched for his own release. When he finally came, he collapsed on top of her.
They lay there, tangled together in the aftermath of whatever had transpired on that peak. Scarlett had never felt more complete – or more confused.
Two days later . . .
Scarlett kept waiting impatiently for the seatbelt sign to turn off so she could head to the bathroom. Their time in Thailand was over, and the flight back was affecting her more than usual. Not even the Gravol one of the perky flight attendants had given her was working. She’d woken up feeling generally unwell and wondered if maybe it might have something to do with returning to reality. Now that their vacation was over, was Charles going to change his mind about the things that had transpired between them?
He reached over then as if reading her thoughts and gently squeezed her hand with a warm smile on his face. Things were different now. It was almost as if someone had pressed fast forward on their relationship since that day up in the Thai jungle in that secret garden. Charles has gotten the answers to his most burning question, and it was as if he were a changed man. She still had no idea what he’d heard or seen during his meditation, but whatever it had been had altered him drastically.
She, on the other hand, remained with questions unanswered and a heart full of doubt. As beautiful as it was that Charles was now lavishing all this attention on her, she was still waiting for the other shoe to drop. He’d even gone so far as to talk about their future together. He talked about how many children he wanted and how he would love for her to move into the cabin with him one day.
Scarlett couldn’t help but wonder if all the talk of their future and her still being so uncertain about it was causing enough stress to make her sick. She wanted things to get better with Charles, but she didn’t think she was ready to move in with him; not yet, anyway. Scarlett had made such giant strides in Thailand, for herself, regardless of the trip being initially for their relationship. There was a space inside of her that needed to be filled, and she wasn’t sure Charles was enough to fill it. She was missing self-love, self-respect and she wanted to get it back.
The light finally went off, and Scarlett made a beeline to the bathroom, barely getting her head over the toilet in time before she threw up. Her head was pounding, and she felt incredibly dizzy and strange. At least being sick would be a good excuse to remove herself from Charles for a couple of days so that she could reflect on the things she’d discovered about herself in Thailand.
It was the best plan she had.
As she came back down the aisle, only feeling slightly better, she sat down quietly next to Charles.
“Are you okay?” He asked, squeezing her hand in his own.
“Yes,” She replied, her voice shaky. She gave a small smile. “You know how I get on planes.”
“Need a distraction?” Charles whispered seductively.
For the first time in a long time, she didn’t shiver at the suggestion in his words. She just wasn’t feeling, for lack of a better word, horny enough at the moment for something like that. Shaking her head, she squeezed his hand back. “I'm all right.”
He smiled that devastating smile at her, her heart flipping a little in her chest and she kissed him tenderly on the cheek. “Thanks for asking though.”
Charles had a glow about him that she hadn’t seen in a long time. Not since the complication of their intense relationship surfaced. She was thrilled that he was happy, even if she wasn’t sure about the direction of her own life. Scarlett felt like that was a good enough start for the both of them. Quietly, she tucked her arm into his and rested her head on his shoulder. She closed her eyes and relaxed, hoping a nice nap would calm her stomach as they flew home to America. Gone With The Wind’s Scarlett O’Hara popped into her head just then, her namesake, as she thought about what her next step would be.
“Tomorrow,” She murmured as she felt a heaviness creep into her limbs and sleep began to take her.
“What was that?” Charles whispered against the top of her head, stroking his thumb over the back of her hand.
Scarlett snuggle
d down deeper into her plush, first class seat and yawned deeply. “I’ll think about that tomorrow.”
