My Soul For You

“A ferret?”
He shrugged. “Sure. They’re cute and fluffy.”
“Okay, one more question.” At his nod to go ahead, Katie continued. “What does this mean for us?”
“That depends…” he edged a step closer. “Do you forgive me?”
She studied his face, the beautiful curves of his brows, the wide contours of his eyes, and the full set of his lips. God, she’d missed him.
“Is there anything else I should know about you?” she asked. “You’re not really part duck, are you?”
“Part duck?” He gave the question some serious consideration. “I think I have some geese in my family tree, but no ducks.”
Katie laughed. “I can live with geese.”
When he put his arms around her, she went willingly into them. She felt the rise and fall of his shoulders as he exhaled into her temple. And for the first time in months, Katie finally felt safe.
Epilogue
“Kaitlin Claremont!”
Cheers rose from the crowd as Katie took the stage, careful not to trip on the hem of her blue graduation gown. She crossed to where Mr. Crouch stood, her rolled up diploma in hand. She smiled at the erratic camera flashes as her aunt snapped more than a million photos at once while wiping at tears.
Laughing, she walked to the other side and descended the steps. No sooner had she touched the last one when she was lifted into the air and pulled in for a long, passionate kiss that had more than a few people gasping in the crowd.
Katie pulled back and smiled up into Kaleb’s face. He looked breathtaking in his dark suit, his hair swept back from his gorgeous face.
He grinned back at her. “I told you I’d be waiting for you.”
Leaning up, she kissed him. “I’m all yours now.”
His arms tightened around her. “Damn right.”
