“One of these days you’ll find someone who not only reads your mind but steals your heart as well, Glen, so watch out.” Sally grinned at him. “You’d better invite me to your wedding.”
“And me yours,” Glen said.
“And me yours, what?” Melvin asked, coming up beside them.
“I told Glen he’d best invite me to his wedding when he finally meets that woman who steals his heart,” Sally said. “He said ‘And me yours,’ but I’m not sure I will get married. Anthony and I have an understanding. I don’t think we need more than that, do we?”
“We need only what you tell me we need, my lady,” Anthony said, making them all laugh.
“You are a wise man, Anthony,” Melvin said. “The saying is happy wife, happy life. But in this case, I think it’s happy partner.”
“Happy community,” Glen said and clapped his hand on Melvin’s shoulder. “We’ve done the impossible. Can you imagine a celebration like this when the four of us first met you at Mia’s apartment? We’ve come a long way.”
“And a long way yet to go,” Melvin said, “but it doesn’t seem so insurmountable when you’ve already traveled the first half of the journey. I predict electricity by this time next year.”
“What do you predict, Glen?” Sally asked.
“Only more happiness,” Glen said, “new babies and more marriages. Life and death, and all the things that make this a wonderful world when you are in control of your own fate. That’s all.”
