Pushing the Boundaries (Picking up the Pieces #3) Page 14

by Jessica Prince

“Just being real, sweetheart. Not blowing smoke up your ass; you know I’m not like that.”

“But none of that means he’s going to stay, Brett.” I had to whisper, almost unable to finish the sentence past the lump in my throat.

“No, it doesn’t.” I scowled and shot him a look of death. “But,” he drug out with a smirk. “The fact that he’s one hundred percent crazy-as-shit about you does.”

The fact he seemed so sure, so positive of what he was telling me warmed something inside me. I felt my worry subsiding at the thought that maybe Brett was right.

  “You really think so?”

“Know so, babe.” He planted a kiss on my forehead and took me for another spin the dance floor. And that time, I felt much lighter.

“Harder,” I moaned as Trevor pounded into me from behind. I was on all fours in the middle of the bed as he stood on his knees behind me. The sex was just as good as always, but there was something different about it this time.

Once Brett and I made our way back to the table after dancing, Trevor had been even more accommodating and attentive than usual. And once we got home, the intensity I was feeling from him all night carried over into the bedroom.

“Slow,” he grunted, pumping into me and dragging back out in a slow, tantalizing manner.

“Baby, please. I need you to fuck me,” I begged, so desperate to come I thought I might cry. But he never changed his maddening tempo.

  “No, cher. Slow. Feel it.”

“I do!” I shouted. “I feel it, Trevor! You’re driving me crazy.”

As soon as the words left my mouth, he pulled completely out of me and I was spun around until my back hit the mattress and he fell on top of me. Grabbing the back of my left knee, he hooked it around the bend of his elbow and pushed it back as he hovered over me. The position opened me up so he could get impossibly deeper. I released a guttural moan as he slid back in, sending shockwaves through my sensitive area.

“Slow, baby. I want you to feel everything I’m doing to you. Everything you do to me.” The passion in his eyes grew tenfold as he thrust in and out, in and out, slow and steady. With each move, his thick, rigid cock brushed over my g-spot, his hips circled and ground against my clit every time he pushed in to me.

“Fuck me, Lizzy. You have no idea what you do to me, cher.”

One last thrust, one last grind of his hips mixed with the magnitude of the emotions in his gaze, and I was a goner. Crying out his name in a reverent plea, I came just as hard as I did when he was rough. He stilled and with a shout of my name emptied himself into me, pouring out every drop of his own release.

It took forever for us to come down from our climax. I never wanted to move. I wanted to stay right there with him pressed into me forever.

“That was…” I started, but was suddenly at a loss for words.

“Intense,” he finished for me, hitting the nail on the head.

  “Insanely intense,” I agreed.

  “You felt it, too?”

As he looked at me and asked that, I saw something in him I’d never seen before: vulnerability. It was so uncommon for Trevor that I could only nod in agreement. “Yeah, I felt it.”

He smiled so brightly I felt the glow deep inside my chest. I was in deep with this man.

He climbed from the bed and went to the bathroom to clean up before coming back to me with a warm, wet rag and taking care of me. He was so gentle as he took the time and care to clean me that another part of my wall cracked, exposing my heart even more.

When he climbed back into bed and pulled me to him, wrapping me in his thick arms, chest to back, it only took a handful of seconds to fall into a deep, dreamless sleep.

Sleep still held me in its grasp, not quite ready to let me go. But the cold, wet streak across my cheek was battling against it, trying to force me awake. Reaching up, I swiped at my face, trying to wave away whatever was bugging me. Neither Trevor nor I had clients scheduled until early afternoon, so we didn’t have to go to work until later. I wanted so badly to sleep in.

I’d just snuggled back down in the warmth of my bed, dozing once again when that same cold, damp…whatever trailed from my chin to my forehead, leaving a disgusting wet trail over my face.

“Ack!” I screamed. My eyes flew open as I snapped up in the bed and shuffled backward, pressing my back into the headboard. That’s when I saw what left all that shit on my face.

“Goddamn it, Merle! That’s disgusting!” I yelled as I used the sheet to wipe fervently at my face, trying to get all the dog slobber off. Most definitely not the way I wanted to wake up in the morning.

“Aw,” I heard and jerked my head up to see Trevor leaning against the doorframe of the bedroom. “He’s just giving you kisses,” he baby-talked.

“That fucking dog is a hazard,” I insisted with a point in Merle’s direction. He simply sat there with his head cocked and that goofy, doofus look on his face. “Asshole,” I muttered quietly at him. He just perked that one ear that wasn’t permanently flopped over up, let out a loud doggy burp, plopped himself on the ground, and immediately began snoring.

“You love him,” Trevor teased with a smirk. “Admit it. I saw you feeding him bacon the other morning and rubbing his belly.”

I crossed my arms over my chest and harrumphed. “He threw himself on the ground and rolled over. The dumbass wouldn’t move until I petted him,” I grumbled, still not fully awake. I was shit before I had my morning coffee, and with the wake-up I’d just had, I was in a doubly-foul mood.

“Is that why you called him a “good whittle boy” while you were doing it?”

“Shut your stupid face.” I climbed from the bed and headed to the bathroom to relieve my full bladder, slamming the door shut behind me, and proceeded to fall right into the toilet.

  “Son of a bitch! TREVOR!”

When I finally made it down the stairs an hour later, the aroma of strong coffee fortified my senses. I’d spent longer than normal in the shower, washing the dog spit off my face and the toilet water from my butt. There were times when living with a man was actually really friggin’ gross.

As soon as I hit the kitchen, Trevor was there with a mug in his hand, the coffee doctored up just like I liked it.

“Mornin’, wifey. I’ll give you five minutes to suck that down and become a human before I bother with any conversation.”

“You know me so well,” I replied, giving him a quick peck on the lips before planting my behind on one of the bar stools across the island from him. I watched with quiet fascination as he moved about the kitchen making breakfast. The room filled with the smells of cinnamon and all kinds of other deliciousness.

  Mmm, French toast.

My mouth watered and my stomach growled as I drained the last of my coffee.

“You all set?” Trevor asked a few minutes later as he reached for my empty mug and refilled it before sitting it back in front of me.

“Yup. As human as I’ll ever be. It’s safe for you to talk now,” I responded cheekily.

“Don’t forget, we have dinner at Nana and Pop Pop’s tonight.” I grumbled at the reminder of yet another family dinner. Don’t get me wrong, I loved my family, but I came by my crazy honestly. I was sure there were doctors out there who’d love nothing more than to study us for psychological purposes. Where I found our chaotic dinners cringe-worthy and mentally exhausting, Trevor found them utterly hilarious and fascinating. The man took to my kin like a fish out of water.

“Nana already called me this morning to confirm we’d be there at seven. She said to let you know she’d, and this is a direct quote, ‘kick your scrawny little ass if you were a minute late’.”

“Hmph, I could totally take her.”

“I don’t know,” he said with a laugh. “I kinda have my money on Nana. She’s spunky.”

  “Hey!” I cried. “I broke a chick’s nose!”

“I remember, Sugar Ray Leonard, but I’m still backing Nana. The woman’s old and wily. Y
ou never know what to expect with that one.

  Wasn’t that the damn truth.

Just as Trevor sat down next to me and we’d begun to tuck into our breakfast, the front door came crashing open, startling a yelp from me and causing both of us to jump up in surprise. Luke and Emmy came scrambling into the kitchen seconds later and all I could think was I really need to stop giving friggin’ keys to everyone! That was, until I saw the tear streaks on Emmy’s face.

“Oh, my God. What’s wrong?” I rushed to Emmy and wrapped her in a tight hug as she sniffled into my neck.

“T-the baby,” she cried softly. My heart plummeted in to my stomach at her words. Oh, please no. Not again.

I pulled back and looked in to my friend’s glassy eyes, “What’s wrong with the baby?” I asked, feeling my own tears prick the back of my eyes. After everything Emmy went through with the loss of Ella, there was no way she’d be able to handle losing this little one.

Emmy opened her mouth to speak, but Luke got there first.

“My son’s got a dick!” he shouted triumphantly, pumping his fist into the air. Emmy immediately broke down in gut-wrenching sobs, burying her face back in my neck and holding on for dear life. I looked over her shoulder and caught Trevor’s gaze. He gave me a one-shoulder shrug, looking just as confused as I felt. I turned back to a beaming Luke and asked, “What?”

“My son’s got a dick! We’re having a boy!” I had never seen the man so excited in my life.

“Jesus Christ,” I breathed, pulling Emmy away from me so I could see her face. “You scared the shit outta me! I thought something was wrong. Why are you crying?”

“I’m gonna be surrounded by dirty, smelly boys!” she wailed dramatically.

Luke wrapped an arm around her shoulders and pulled her to his side, placing a kiss on the top of her head. The man was lit up like the Fourth of July.

“It’s going to be nothing but poop and pee and dirty underwear all over the floor for the rest of my life! My house is going to stink all the time. Between Luke and this baby, I’m never going to get the nasty boy smell out! And Luke’s already talking about teaching him to write his name when he’s peeing!”

I could barely understand her as she spoke between hiccups.

“It’s gonna be so awesome!” Luke declared. “I’ll teach him everything I know!”

“This is going to be a nightmare!” Emmy shouted, tears still running down her cheeks nonstop. Damn, how much water did the woman have in her body?

I didn’t understand what the big deal was. As long as the baby was safe and healthy, that was all that mattered.

“Congratulations, man,” Trevor told Luke, doing that high-five/one-armed hug thing guys do. “That’s so awesome. There’s gonna be a Mini-Luke running around Cloverleaf before you know it!”

Oh, okay. Now I got it. A little girl was one thing. Emmy could put her in bows and frilly pink dresses and teach her to be girly. But a little boy? Luke’s boy? She was going to have to start saving up bail money now, because any son of Luke’s was going to be a hell-raiser.

  Poor Emmy.

I guided everybody into the living room where we could all sit. Luke plopped down on the couch, pulling Emmy with him and tucking her into his side while Trevor took a seat in the chair across from them and yanked me down in to his lap. While my independent side wanted to make a scene that I could seat myself, my inner girly-girl was silently basking in his need to have me close.

“Em, babe, it’s going to be fine. You’ll see. You can break him of any of Luke’s bad habits before he’s too far gone. You’ll have your hands full, but you got this.”

“Hey!” Luke said. “My habits aren’t so bad. Any boy would be lucky to have me as a role model. I’m a cop, for Christ’s sake!”

“You tied a ribbon around your dick and gave it to me as a birthday present,” Emmy told him flatly, looking rather unimpressed.

“That was a great gift! Damn, woman, you don’t appreciate me at all.”

Emmy turned back to me with pleading eyes, “Can I move in with you? We can raise the baby together. We’ll be like a lesbian couple, just without the sex. You know, because vaginas are ugly and stuff.”

“That’s blasphemy,” Trevor replied passionately. “Vaginas are beautiful!”

I peeked over my shoulder and narrowed my eyes. “You aren’t helping.”

“Well, it’s true,” he pouted like a little boy. “Don’t worry, Luke; if Emmy moves in here, I’ll pick up the slack and be the kid’s father figure.

“Oh, that’s even worse,” Emmy cried, another round of sobs wracking her body.

“Is she always like this?” Trevor asked with equal parts terror and morbid curiosity.

“Yup, pretty much. But she’s a hellcat in the sack right now. Can’t get enough of me. Pregnancy hormones; they’re a double-edged sword, my friend.”

“You’re an asshole,” Emmy and I said at the same time.

“And there’s my angry baby girl,” Luke said with a grin as he gave her a pat on the head. I was starting to worry for his safety. He might not make it through this pregnancy alive, or at least with his balls intact.

“I hope you enjoy sleeping on the couch, dickhead. ‘Cause you aren’t getting any for the rest of your life.”

  “Ah, baby girl,” Luke groused.

“Don’t you ‘baby girl’ me. You did this to me!” she shouted, pointing at her protruding belly. “This is all your fault!”

She shot up from the couch and stormed out of the house with Luke trailing behind her, insisting he didn’t mean it and that she was the smartest, prettiest woman in the whole world. I had no doubt the ass-kissing would last the remainder of the week. Luke was in the doghouse big time! But then again, he was used to being there.

  Yep.

  Weirdest. Friends. Ever.

Trevor and I sat with my parents, Nana, and Pop Pop around my grandparents’ dining room table, enjoying a surprisingly crazy-free dinner. Even though Nana fawned all over Trevor and Pop Pop went into detail about his irregular bowel movements ever since his doctor put him on a high-fiber diet, things seemed to be going relatively smoothly.

  Until Nana brought out dessert.

“Oh, honey, I picked you something up when I was out shopping the other day,” Mom informed me, reaching down beside her chair and lifting up a plastic bag.

“What’s this?” I asked, taking the bag from her hand.

  “Open it,” she replied excitedly.

Her excitement was confusing when I opened the bag. “A calendar?”

“Yes!” I shouted with excitement as I just stared. “It’s so you can track your ovulation schedule. You mark down the first day of your last menstrual cycle, then count ahead twelve to fourteen days. That way, you’ll know when you’re the most fertile!”

  Uh, what?

“Why the hell would I need to keep track of that? Mom, they make condoms for a reason. The rhythm method is a little old school,” I told her sarcastically.

“Not to prevent pregnancy, smartass,” my mother deadpanned. “It’s so you can get pregnant!” she cheered, clapping her hands like a giddy little girl.

  “Uh…what?”

“You aren’t getting any younger,” Nana added. “Your ovaries are practically drying up as we sit here. You need to get on the ball.”

I laughed and looked over at Trevor to see if he was finding this conversation as funny as I was. The idiot was too busy flipping through the calendar with a pen poised over the days.

“What the hell are you doing?!”

“You just had your period, right, cher? What was the first day?” he asked, never taking his eyes off the calendar.

“Have you lost your mind?” I shrieked. “We aren’t having a baby!”

“Why not?” he asked seriously, finally looking up to meet my astonished gaze.

“Why not?” I asked incredulously. “Are you being serious right now?” I looked around the table at everyone’s expectant gaze
s. “This is a joke isn’t it?” I laughed uncomfortably. “Y’all are just screwing with me.”

“You’re already married, Lizzy-Lu. Babies are the next logical step,” Nana told me, her face carved in a serious expression.

“We’ve been married for like, five minutes! And it was only because we got drunk in Vegas. That doesn’t really scream parent material to me.”

“Pfft,” Nana waved her hand in the air. “So you’ll fudge the details when you explain how Mommy and Daddy got together. Everyone does it. We never told your mom that she was an unexpected surprise which led to a shotgun wedding.” Her eyes misted over in a dreamy expression. “I’ll never forget that night. We were in the front seat of your grandfather’s truck—”

“Oh, gross!” I cried at the same time Trevor said, “Getcha some, Pop Pop!” and gave him a high-five.

  I was in a nightmare.

“Dad, Pop Pop. Come on.” I was trying to play to the sympathies of the only two rational people at the table. I should have known it wouldn’t do me any good.

“Sorry, pumpkin,” Dad responded. “But we know where our bread’s buttered.

  “Eww, Dad!”

Pop Pop finally piped up, “He’s right, honey pot. You’re on your own here.”

  Spineless bastards!

“Trev, honey. We can’t have a baby. This is crazy. We’re still getting to know each other! You can’t really want to have a baby right now.”

“Sure I do,” he told me with a big cheesy grin. “I love kids. I always knew I’d have a whole bunch of my own one day.”

“What’s a whole bunch?” I asked, letting him drag me off-topic slightly.

He shrugged casually, “I don’t know, six maybe seven?”

“Are you cra—no, you know what? We aren’t talking about this. Trevor, baby,” I grabbed his hand in mine and stared into his eyes. “Remember what happened this morning? Emmy was a blubbering mess all because she found out her and Luke were having a boy—”
