She chose a short, slinky black dress and wore her highest heels. It was nice not to have to worry about being taller than her date.

When she came out Gab was sitting in the living room dressed in black slacks and a white shirt. He’d hung his sport coat over the arm of his chair. If not for Sam, she’d be tempted by this gorgeous man.

Sam knocked and walked briskly into the room. Sylvia almost grinned. He had one speed most of the time, hurry.

“You look gorgeous.” His eyes roamed from the top of her head to her feet. A flush of heat followed his eye movements. She was sure her whole body must be bright red. Stepping closer, he tipped her chin and, bending down, kissed her mouth. Then he glanced across at Gab.

“Welcome home,” Sam said and shook Gab’s hand. Gab had stood and looked beyond Sam. “She’s waiting in the car.”

  “Does she still hate me?”

“I don’t know, man. You crushed her. She started not to come tonight. I talked her into it. I want her to meet and get to know Sylvia.”

“I’ll be on my best behavior,” Gab promised.

“You’d better be. I wanted to punch you out before, but she stopped me. If you hurt her again, I’ll knock you down no matter what she says.”

“And I’d deserve it. Don’t worry. I’m here to protect Sylvia, and to see my family. I don’t plan to be in her vicinity after tonight.”

Sam put his arm around Sylvia’s waist. “Let’s go. I’ve got reservations at the Steak Palace for seven thirty. It’ll take most of that time to get there.”

Sam and Sylvia walked to the car. He put her in the front seat and introduced her to Grace.

Gab strolled slowly behind them. When he caught up, Sam opened the car’s back door. “Grace, you know Gab. He’ll sit with you. Play nice, you two.”

“Hello, Grace.” Gab got in and sat close to the door. Grace hugged the other side.

“I was surprised to see you coming home. Last I heard it had been a few years,” Grace said.

“Yes, but Mom and Dad came to New York several times. Mom loves the plays.”

“Well, I’m sure they’ll be glad to see you.”

“I’ve called them. I plan on going out to the ranch tomorrow to see them while Sylvia’s working. Would you like to come along?”

“No thanks. I’ll be busy getting Sam’s house decorated, and I want to spend time with my mother.” She turned and looked out the window, stopping any further conversation.

Sylvia turned an eye toward Sam. He winked and shrugged. Evidently, Gab and Grace had been a pair and something happened. Sam had told her Grace was twenty-four, so Grace would have been young when the split occurred. Gab looked older than her.

To fill the silence, Sylvia told them about her first day at work. When they got to Wagon Wheel, she looked all around.

“This is a much bigger town than Frontier City.”

“The town is bigger, but we have as much acreage in our part of the county. The town limits are way out past the actual business area,” Sam explained. He turned right and went down two streets then parked by a large two-story house. “This is it. The best steaks in this part of Montana.” He went around and opened Sylvia’s door.

Gab got out, but Grace hurried to open her door and come around to Sam’s other side before Gab could help her. Gab’s jaw clenched tight, but he didn’t say anything. Sylvia felt a little sorry for him. Still, she hadn’t heard the whole story.

They were seated right away, and Sam steered the conversation around Grace’s work. She got very enthusiastic when talking about designing clothes. Sylvia saw why the family called Sam the peacemaker. He adroitly moved the conversation from one topic to another. If Grace or Gab started to have words, he asked Sylvia a question. Still there was an underlying tension at the table. Sylvia was glad when it was time to leave.

Riding home, Sam glanced in the rearview mirror at Gab. “I’ll drop you off at the cabin. If Sylvia’s willing, I’m going to take her to my place. I’ll bring her back later. Sis, I’m dropping you off at Mom’s. She’ll be waiting to talk with you.”

“That’s fine with me. I’m tired,” Grace said. She looked out the side window as she had on the trip into town.

Gab agreed. “Knock on my door when you get back,” he told Sylvia. “Then I’ll know you’re in safe.”

“I can protect myself from the car to the cabin.”

“He’s right, honey.” Sam threw a glance in her direction. “Humor him, for all our sakes.”

Irritated by all the men around her, Sylvia chose to look out her window. Thankfully it didn’t seem to take as long coming back as it did going.

Gab waved as he got out and went inside the cabin. Grace took a deep breath and moved more to the center of the backseat.

“Tell me again how you are over Gab.” Sam frowned in the mirror.

“Don’t start with me, Sam. I’m in a bad mood. I should have stayed home.”

“I agree. Next time we’ll leave you behind.”

“Hump.” Grace folded her arms and glared back.

Sylvia looked from one to the other. “Sam, watch the road. Grace, if you wanted Gab to think you’re still mad at him for whatever happened, you succeeded.”

Grace put her head down. “I don’t know how to act around him. I thought I’d gotten over any feelings I had for him. Then he walked out and all the memories flooded over me.”

  “I’m sorry, sis.”

She raised her head and nodded, but Sylvia had seen the tears.

Loving someone could hurt. She wasn’t sure she was brave enough to try for the real thing.

Sam opened the door to his house and switched on the lights. Sylvia walked inside. He’d left a lamp lit and the soft glow warmed the red oak floors. The huge fireplace was made of rock, and soft cream-colored walls gave a picture of warmth, comfort, and sturdiness.

“I like the living room very much.”

Sam took her hand and led her through a dining room with windows showing the woods and on to a large, homey kitchen.

  “It’s much like your mother’s.”

“Yes. I made a few changes. Mom always said she’d have liked a larger pantry. I thought whoever I married might feel the same.” He opened a door at the end of the room.

“Wow, that’s big. And I like the area at the other end of the room where you can have a small table and chairs when you don’t want to use the dining room. Who designed the house for you?”

“An architect in town. He’s the same one who designed Graham and Gina’s house. I told him what I wanted. He drew up a plan, and then we made a few modifications. Let me show you the master bedroom. I think you’ll like it.”

“Really. What makes you believe that?”

“For one reason, I’d like to make love to you there.”

  “With no bed?”

He chuckled. “Are you so citified you have to have all the comforts of home?”

  “Usually.”

“Something else for me to work on.” He led the way, opened the door, and stepped back. “Go on in.”

These windows gave a view of the prairie and mountains. A sliver of moon shed light across the vastness. When she stepped on the carpet, her feet sank into the softness. In the middle of the room Sam had laid out a large sleeping bag. On a cooler sat two champagne glasses. Sam walked behind her and circled her waist with his arms.

His lips brushed her ear when he whispered, “Will you let me make love to you?”

“You have no curtains. Someone might see us.”

“The lights are off and no one is within miles of here. I’ve put a fence around a large area of my property that circles the house. I have an alarm system to warn me of intruders.” He kissed her neck, and his hands cupped her breast through her blouse.

Her nipples peaked instantly, and she shivered as he kissed all along her neck and shoulders. When she didn’t stop him, Sam started unbuttoning her blouse and snapped her bra open. Now his
fingers stroked her bare skin. A rush of pure lust became an insatiable craving for this man to kiss and touch her all over.

She turned in his arms to face him and began to undo his shirt. “I need to feel your skin against mine.”

“I couldn’t agree more,” he said in a husky voice. He stared at her face as she slowly undressed him. Sylvia kissed each spot she uncovered. His golden-brown chest hair narrowed at his waist. Her fingers struggled to undo the belt.

“Let me.” He quickly took off the rest of his clothes and then pushed her blouse and bra off her shoulders. When he slid down to undress her further, she moved off.

“I can do it.” She unfastened her slacks and let them gradually move down her body. They puddled on the floor beside her feet. She kicked them and her shoes off to the side before putting one finger in the side of her bikini panties and very slowly pushing them down and off.

When she was totally nude, she walked back to him. “See something you like, cowboy?”

  Chapter Six

“Put your arms around my neck,” he demanded and pulled her legs up around his waist. “I might ask you the same question, my beautiful lady.” His nose nuzzled into her neck and he breathed deep. “Your fragrance brings my cock to full attention. I’ve taken more cold showers since meeting you than I have in my whole life.”

He carried her to the nearest wall and put her back against it. “Later tonight we’ll take our time. I want to feel my cock in your sweet pussy right now.” He ran his finger across her clit and along her moist lower lips.

“You’re ready for me.” It was more statement than question. He stared into her eyes. Her heart thumped and her breath was rapid. Her whole body was yelling, “Hell yes.”

He positioned his cock at her opening. He was large, and he took his time gradually stretching her inner pussy walls. She gasped with pleasure and pushed down, wanting to feel more of him.

“Be patient, honey. I don’t want to hurt you.” Once he was fully inside, Sam began to thrust in and out. But when he leaned forward and bit lightly on her nipple, Sylvia screamed and pushed at his shoulders. For a second she was back in that horrible room with Marko.

Sam pulled out and let her legs down. He drew her shaking body into his arms. “Did I hurt you? What is it?” At first she couldn’t speak. All she could do was cry. “Do you want me to take you home?”

She shook her head no and held tight to him. He carried her to the sleeping bag and laid her down. Then he lay beside her and held her close. Gradually her sobs stopped.

“I’m going to get up and pour us some champagne. A little bubbly might help calm you.”

She watched the ripples in his arm and back muscles as he opened the wine and poured some into each crystal flute. Then he opened the cooler and brought out a tray with chocolate-covered strawberries.

Sylvia sat up beside him. “This is delightful. I love chocolate-covered cherries and strawberries.” She took one and bit into the sweetness. “Hmm, good.” Then she took a sip of the sparkling wine. She laughed when the bubbles tickled her nose.

“A smile at last. There’s my girl.”

He didn’t push her to talk, and she appreciated his understanding. They both ate the strawberries and emptied their flutes.

  “I need to explain.”

“When you’re ready. If you want to wait until later, that’s all right.”

“No. I want you to make more love to me tonight. I’ve never really talked to anyone about what happened just before Graham rescued me. I still have nightmares but not as often.” She told him about being a prisoner, about the hunger and pain from the torture. Then she told him about the final night, the delicious dinner, and the fear her captor would kill her afterward.

“The way I felt walking up the steps must be how prisoners feel on their way to being executed for their wrongdoings. Fear clawed at my throat. I had trouble breathing, but I knew if I showed fear it would give Marko more satisfaction. Then he’d have been even crueler.”

“I wish he was here. I’d like to torture him.”

Sylvia patted his face. “Thank you, but for him, being in prison will be torture enough. He liked to fly free.” Then she told Sam about the way Marko had hurt her breasts. “When you bit lightly, it didn’t hurt, but for some reason that scene rushed into my head. I was back there, scared and in pain.”

“If I’d known I’d have been more careful. I moved too fast. This next time we’ll take it slow and easy. You can lead.”

“I’m surprised you don’t want to take me home and get rid of this nutty broad.”

“I’d never think of you in such terms. You’re wounded. People can’t see the inside hurt. You have to let us help you. I’m not going anywhere. As you said, once I make up my mind, I’m as stubborn as the rest of the Brodies.”

Sam pulled her down on the sleeping bag and held her tight. She drew in a deep breath. His scent of fresh air, sandalwood, and musk curled inside her, comforted her, and made her feel safe.

They lay with their arms and legs tangled around each other. Sam’s chin rested on the top of her head. After a little while, Sam kissed her head and his hands massaged her back.

“Turn on your stomach.” Sam pulled away and waited while she did as he’d asked.

He straddled her body and massaged her scalp. Then he moved down to the back of her neck and her shoulders. As his fingers pressed into her tense muscles, she relaxed.

When he moved farther down and straddled the top of her legs, she sighed. His strong hands gently massaged her back and buttocks. His fingers kneaded each area until she melted into a puddle of no resistance. Then he leaned forward and kissed each place he’d rubbed.

His kisses aroused her, and a flood of warmth swept through her body. In her lower abdomen, a spark of desire grew into a blaze of unsatisfied hunger.

She moved. “I want to roll over.”

“As you wish, my love.” He rolled her to face him.

“You lie on your back. I’m in control, right?”

“Yes.” He turned to where he was lying on the sleeping bag in her spot.

Sylvia sat back on her legs and admired his body from his head to his toes, as he’d done to her earlier. His broad chest rose and fell faster, and his cock pulsed against his abdomen. Tentatively, she put out her hand and brushed her fingers across his foot, up his ankle, and grasped his lower leg. She placed both hands on his legs and then straddled his body. Her hands slid upward.

He kept eye contact with her. His golden-brown eyes turned more golden as she aroused him. When she got close to his cock, she wrapped her hand around his hardness. The skin was satin smooth. Bending her head, she licked the drop of liquid from his crown, and then took his dick into her mouth. Her tongue licked around the sides and top.

She glanced up at him. Perspiration shone on his face. She knew he was holding back to let her have control.

Sam took a sharp intake of air when she went down on him as far as she could. She began to go up and down with a steady rhythm. Her pussy clenched, and moisture wet her pussy lips. The room was scented with the fragrance of their arousal.

  * * * *

Carefully, Sam cupped her breasts as she continued to kindle a burning fire inside his body. He touched her nipples lightly and felt the brief pause as she noted his actions. Then her mouth continued its up-and-down movement. He fondled her soft, luscious globes and ran his fingers across her nipples. They peaked like tight rosebuds. He wanted to taste her, but held back. That would be for another time.

When she sucked on his cock, he almost exploded. “Stop. I want to pleasure you before I come, and I want to be inside your tight, hot pussy when I do.”

Quickly, he rolled her over and lay against her body, then he went down on her and separated her pink folds. His tongue licked across her clit and along her lower lips to the opening of her pussy. She was wet and tasted sweet. His tongue flicked into her opening, and her body bowed as she yelled out his name and screamed for him to
go in her.

  “In time, my love.”

She grabbed hold of his hair. When he raised his head, her green eyes glowed like emeralds. “Now!” She spread her legs wide, and he couldn’t resist.

Putting his cock at her opening, he plunged inside her tight, hot, wet center. She bucked against him and her pussy walls clenched tight around his wide girth.

The air fairly sizzled around them as he thrust in and out. Her pussy vibrated against his cock and she met him stroke for stroke. He forgot about being gentle and drove her hard, taking all she’d give.

A shot of lusty pleasure rushed up his spine. His head felt like it might explode in ecstasy. Pulling her legs up to his shoulders, he pumped hard and fast as a wave of pure joy broke over him. He was aware of the ripples in her pussy and her shout as she was swept away with him.

Lying on his back, he tried to catch his breath. His heart pounded like a locomotive trying to go up a hill. His cock still felt very sensitive and still pulsed in satisfaction.

Sam leaned across Sylvia. “Are you all right?” He grinned. “So much for taking it slow.”

“I don’t think I can move yet. But it was good just the way we did it.”

  “Good? That’s it.”

Sylvia reached up and pulled his head down to kiss him. “I don’t want to give you a swelled head.”

She glanced at the windows. “I hope you were right and no one was looking.” Suddenly, she shivered. “I’m going to test out your new bathroom and shower then dress. You need to drive me back to the cabin. We both have to work tomorrow.”

“All right, if you insist.” He pulled her up and went with her into the bathroom. “Why don’t we save time and shower together?”

  “Because we’d never get dressed.”

“You’re probably right. I’ll dress in the bedroom. I can shower when I get back.”

Sam hugged her when she was dressed and ready to go. He liked the feel of her body cuddled close to him. “I hope you’ll be willing to visit me more often once I have all my furniture delivered this week. Let’s plan on Friday night.”
