Crushed: A Western Romance (Red Velvet Series Book 3) Page 10

by Leanore Elliott

Tilting her head, she watched his face in sleep. Handsome awake or asleep. Only, he looks like…well, not a little boy. She grinned. He was too mighty of a strappin’ thang to be even remotely thought of as little in any way shape or form.

Wade sighed sweetly but wearily in his sleep.

He was exhausted of course, all that steer wrangling and Kanda rustling. She stifled a girl like titter and rolled her eyes with glorious satisfaction. She sat quietly—almost reverently and watched him sleep for a couple of wonderful minutes. It just felt awe inspiring to look at him while he was unaware.

Then she suddenly thought about what his sister said this afternoon. How he hadn’t had a girl in a long time. How on God’s green earth could that EVER be true? With the way he looks, and that smile? If anyone else ever said it, she’d call them a bald ass liar.

How did I get so lucky to find such a cowboy and—on my own land no less? I will thank the good Lord every night for this gift. She looked around at the darkened room. I wonder what day it is in Australia today? Kanda was beginning to want badly to know more about him…all about him. If the good Lord’s a willin’, as her daddy used to say… She would have years to find out.

She silently shrugged her shoulders and scooted stealthily to the edge of her bed. It don’t matter none what day it is I suppose, ’cause I’m changing calendars on him now. She smiled wickedly, as she rose up with absolute care and nearly crawled with a slow purpose across her carpeted floor. She then knelt to quietly open her old bureau, grabbing what she needed, then tiptoed back over to the bed.

Kanda bound the rope around her arm. He’s had his steak already today… She struggled to keep from chuckling aloud. She primed her Wade strength resistant rope and took one last look at her sturdy brass bed, hoping against hope it was indeed as strong as she believed it to be. Then, she silently stepped toward the bed.. The spankin’ will be so worth it…

  Trevor’s Room, Triple K

Bren nudged Trevor’s shoulder. “Trev…” she called.

“Mmm?” he mumbled sleepily and stretched his long muscled frame out on the bed. “Sweet tasting Bren…mmm, yum.”

Startled, she froze for a second and smiled. “Damn, you are sexy awake and asleep, aren’t ya, cowboy?” Then she shook her head to clear her sweet thoughts about kissing him and doing some more, steppin’ with him, as he called it earlier. There were scary things afoot and she couldn’t afford go there just now, bad as she wanted to. “Get up!” she urged. “I can’t find Maggie!”

Trevor sat up and looked alarmed as he stared at her. “What?”

  “I said Maggie is missing!”

Trevor shook his head and rubbed his sleep-filled eyes, then his head shot up. “Oh, hell no, he didn’t!”

“What?” Bren asked, her concern rising. “He who—” Her eyes rounded. “Oh, no!” She jumped up and ran to the door. “If he so much as—”

  “Bren!” Trevor shouted.

She halted and turned with annoyance as she planted her hands on her hips. “If you think you’re going to stop me, Trevor Kincade, you got another thing—”

“You are buck naked, sweetie,” he advised calmly with a raised brow.

Her mouth popped open as she stared down at herself. “Oh, shit!” She rushed over to the dresser. “I mean it—that cowboy is dead if he…” She shook herself and turned around as she put her blouse on. “He wouldn’t do something like—I mean, he has some morals, right?”

Trevor shook his head as he tugged on his jeans. “If he follows along with his old ways?” Trevor shook his head. “If so—then your mother and her father…” He looked pale as he halted with a boot hanging from his hand and slowly stared over at her. “Dang, we may either be having a triple wedding or two weddings and a funeral!”

Bren sat down on the bed and put on her boots now. “Yeah! That’s right…” Her brow furrowed. “What? Wait, just a second, three weddings and a—what?”

Trevor chuckled and shook his head. “It’s that movie, ya know? I meant a wedding and a funeral. I’m not awake yet.” He opened the bedroom door. “Are you coming?”

“Yeah,” she pulled her boot on and rushed to the door. “And you’d better hide all the shotgun shells in the house, ’cause someone’s gonna get buried tonight!”
