They couldn’t even get any big names to come in and test during this off season. All the real stars were off vacationing, doing feature films, or taking up off-season DJing. Either way, no one was out to risk their career on a possible disaster of a pilot comedy on an obscure no-name station. But Carter had to make this work. Getting these pilots off the ground could turn this germ of a side network into something, and possibly something big. He needed this. There was only so much hard news he could do and still compete with the other two networks. He’d taken mornings as far as he could.
Making a bit of a splash with his more reality-based pieces had awakened him to the fact that viral scripted content was the way to go. Everyone was leaning toward destination watching, and that was where the network needed to be, even if his old friend Aidan didn’t agree. Let him handle the real life, and Carter would keep everyone suitably placated over in dreamland.
But for that to happen, he needed some certified hit shows. And there would be no hits without a few stars.
