Next on West Germany’s “most wanted” list is Josef Mengele, the murderer of millions. Mengele has been a citizen of Paraguay since 1959.
While in his early thirties, Dr. Josef Mengele was the chief physician at Auschwitz, where he earned the title of “Angel of Death.” At Auschwitz, Mengele tortured and murdered hundreds of thousands of Jews, gypsies, old people, children, and even babies. He would perform childbirths at Auschwitz with the utmost care. Then, thirty minutes later, he would send both the mother and her newborn baby to the gas chamber.
He sent millions of people to their death merely because, according to Nazi racial theory, they were inferior beings and therefore detrimental to the Third Reich.
At the end of the war, the name of Mengele was cropping up in accounts of Auschwitz. He went underground, but soon ended in a British hospital with an unknown ailment, then was discharged. With war criminals such as Bormann and Muller at large, little attention was paid to Mengele, who held the rank of an S.S. lieutenant.
It is known that Mengele was stopped several times during routine checks. Eventually, he went to Spain and then on to Argentina.
Practiced Medicine
Within the last twelve years, Mengele practiced medicine in the Vicente Lopez suburb of Buenos Aires, where he reportedly specialized in venereal disease and abortions. For more than fifteen years, he has obviously enjoyed high-level protection in South America.
Josef Mengele is now co-owner of an agricultural machinery factory which employs some 2,000 workers. Mengele’s factory has two branches, in Paraguay and Argentina. His son is studying in Vienna.
Attempts to extradite Mengele have repeatedly failed. Now in his late fifties, Mengele may die of old age before he could be extradited and brought to trial.
Another wanted Nazi, former S.S. colonel Walter Rauff, last known to be in Chile, successfully fought an attempt to extradite him to Germany in 1963. Groups of wanted Nazis have settled safely in Chile, Argentina, Paraguay and Brazil. Hundreds of other ex-Nazis are living and working in the United Arab Republic.
Hitler’s inspector of concentration camps, Richard Glucks, is still alive in South America, although he is now a sick man.
Glucks is the next most wanted Nazi after Mengele. However, before his death in Egypt in 1967, Josef Mengele’s counterpart at Buchenwald, Dr. Hans Eisele, was next on the list. Eisele’s recent death in Cairo shoved Richard Glucks up to next place.
Glucks is a former S.S. general who worked directly under Heinrich Himmler. He was in charge of training and supervising the men who presided over the extermination of some 6,000,000 Jews in Nazi occupied Europe.
As early as 1934 Himmler created the post of Inspector of Concentration Camps.
In 1936, Richard Glucks, a forty-seven-year-old S.S. commander, was assigned to the first appointee’s (Theodore Eicke) staff. Unlike Eicke, missing since the war, Glucks was a confirmed bureaucrat.
“Glucks possessed an unquenchable Rhenish humor and he saw the funny side of everything,” Rudolf Hoess, the Auschwitz camp commandant, once said. “He made the most serious matters sound comic, and he laughed over them and forgot them and made no decisions about them.”
When the question of genocide was raised, Glucks would say, “These are matters to be discussed with the individual camp commandants, not with me. I’m just an inspector, not a policy maker.”
Although his exact whereabouts are at the present unknown, Richard Glucks was at one time in Chile with Walter Rauff.
Big Nazi Still Free
Hitler’s henchmen are still free. Some are in South America, some in Egypt, and thousands in Germany. All the big Nazis remain free after over twenty years of running.
All told, there are still over 1,000 Nazis on the wanted list of war criminals, but it is only the top Nazis that the West German government really wants.
Martin Bormann, second only to Hitler during the last few months of the war, is alive in Brazil. He may never be arrested. Race murderer Heinrich Muller is also alive, possibly in South America. Dr. Josef Mengele, murderer of millions, and the concentration camp boss Richard Glucks are still free.
But even at this late date, German and Israeli agents are tracking down Hitler and his top henchmen. But time is running out.
The End … Or Is It?
HITLER STILL ALIVE TODAY
FUHRER’S OWN DOCTOR DEBUNKS RED CLAIM
One evening last November, Germans watching ZDF Television in Hamburg got an unexpected jolt. Dr. Erwin Giesing, who was Adolf Hitler’s personal physician, appeared on the screen to discredit a Russian author’s claim that the Red Army had found and burned Der Fuehrer’s body in Berlin in 1945.
The Russian claim was a hoax and Dr. Giesing, who was among the few to see Hitler before he vanished, presented the evidence on TV to prove that the body the Red author was talking about wasn’t that of Adolf Hitler.
Dr. Giesing pointed out that he possessed the last X-rays of Hitler and that his “Hitler mold” differed from the one made by the Russians of the corpse they found.
Furthermore, according to Dr. Giesing, Hitler had two normal testicles instead of only one as the Russians claimed.
It was the first time that Dr. Giesing had broken his silence to talk about his famous patient. He discredited completely the theory that Hitler’s body had been found.
Dr. Giesing didn’t rule out the reports that Hitler escaped from Berlin alive.
Twenty-seven years have passed since Hitler vanished from his Reichschancellery bunker. He was 56 years old then. Could he still be alive today at 83?
Contrary to all reports concerning his health, Hitler was in prime physical condition. A health fadist, he adhered to a balanced diet of organically grown fruits and vegetables; avoided alcohol and smoking. His pulse and blood-pressure were consistently normal and he had an especially strong heart.
In Bonn, West Germany’s Intelligence Service agreed with Dr. Giesing’s conclusions. As far as officials of the secret service are concerned Adolf Hitler is still alive. He is still on the official “Wanted List of War Criminals.”
In 1958, Allied Intelligence agents traced Hitler’s whereabouts to a remote region in Patagonia in South America—a heavily guarded fortress patrolled by a contingent of armed storm troopers. But official London and Washington policy was not to force the issue; if Hitler were to be captured it would complicate the foreign policy to unite Germany behind the Allies. It could also trigger an emotional frenzy; a revival of Nazism in West Germany.
Final Report
I was authorized by higher headquarters in 1945 to say that: “On the basis of present evidence, no insurance company in America would pay a death claim on Adolf Hitler.”
My final report to Washington stated that no evidence was found of Hitler’s death in Berlin in 1945. As a result, the “Wanted List of War Criminals,” last issued in 1948, carried the cryptic notice: “Wanted: Hitler, Adolf, Reichsfuhrer.”
More sinister than Hitler’s disappearance was that of Martin Bormann, for Bormann was an organizational genius with a true passion for anonymity. Moreover, he was a true Nazi who believed passionately in that evil political system.
Aside from speculation, there is no ghost in the crumbled ruins of the Reichschancellery more dangerous than that of Hitler himself, and over the deliberations in Bonn as well as Washington, there still hangs the cloud of doubt: “What really happened to Hitler?”
