“It’s a deal, then,” Ragnar growled, a different kind of spark coming to his eyes, one that promised something that Abigail had been craving since that hot afternoon in the workshop.
“Deal,” she whispered, and she kissed him firmly on the lips, not willing to wait a second longer.
Whatever came next, she was ready for it. Arsonist bears, crazy wills, bear family drama, you name it. Abigail Ramirez was the right kind of girl to tough it out. As long as she could be curled up in the arms of her very own firebear, she was willing to give anything a shot.
EPILOGUE
Ragnar
The road to recovery was always a long one. It was made all the more longer when there was a cloud hanging over one’s head. But having the right kind of people around sure made it easier.
Ragnar smirked to himself, tossing a heavy crossbeam on his shoulder like it didn’t weigh a thing and carrying it to the building site. Royce and Redmond were hard at work erecting the framing, and by the evening they hoped to have the structure mostly complete. Now that Abigail had decided to stay with them, setting up a decent workshop for her seemed like the first thing to do.
The last week or so had been pure heaven. He’d barely gotten out of the room, let alone the house because of the amounts of fun he was having with Abigail. Choosing to give the family some rest from their loud and passionate lovemaking, he’d moved both of them into one of the secondary houses on the farm. It was in as shoddy of a condition as Hamilton House, but everything could be fixed with time.
The only thing he did take time for was continuing his investigation on the Hasslebacks. From what he could tell, Slade still hadn’t returned and Sear was alone in their house. He’d seen the look on the man’s face. In retrospect, Ragnar should have realized immediately when he saw Sear that the bear at least had nothing to do with the fire that had almost killed Abigail, but he’d been too fucking angry to think straight at that point.
Good thing that Abigail had been there, because Redmond and Royce had been wound up just as tight. Having only recently found their mates, a threat to one of the women boiled over into a state of emergency for all three Hamiltons.
“You okay with that?” Royce queried, giving Ragnar a questioning look as he sat on one of the beams high above.
It needed to be a tall building, since they needed to fit Old Bell in there and they were eventually going to add another fire truck into their stable soon enough.
“He’ll be fine,” a familiar, low voice called from the distance.
Ragnar dropped the beam off his shoulder, whipping around. A wide grin plastered itself on his face as he watched the approaching figures of Abigail and Rhodes draw near.
“Holy shit, I can’t believe it,” Redmond hooted, dropping down from the high beams with all the ease of a big cat. Royce swiftly followed him. “Rhodes Hamilton, the lost brother!”
Ragnar glanced at Abigail’s smiling face, his heart growing twice in size every time he saw her, and then locked eyes with Rhodes. His little brother looked… weathered. There was a dullness in his eyes that Ragnar knew too well, but the cocky smirk on his lips still carried all of that attitude that Ragnar remembered.
Putting aside any awkwardness, Ragnar pulled Rhodes into a tight bear hug, holding on for a while. He’d always been closest to Rhodes, and for good reason. They both had that darkness in them that Redmond and Royce didn’t. They were younger, yes, but Ragnar always felt like he aged far faster than his older brothers. He knew it was even worse with Rhodes, the adrenaline junkie who never stayed in one place too long.
“Good to see you, Rhodes,” he said softly, moments before Royce and Redmond nearly tackled the both of them.
“How the hell did you know to come? I’ve been searching for you everywhere!” Royce said, smiling broadly when they untangled themselves from the pile of limbs and grins.
“Ragnar’s little lady got to me. I heard you nitwits can’t handle a little bit of wildfire between the three of you,” Rhodes said, the smile barely reaching his eyes.
Ragnar noticed it immediately. There was something going on with the youngest Hamilton, even more than usual. He’d have to figure out what, but for now, he was glad that the troublemaker of the family was back in the fold. Where he should be.
“I wouldn’t say can’t handle,” Redmond started, pulling Rhodes into a conversation. “Perhaps we used it as an excuse to smoke you out, huh?”
Ragnar turned his attention to Abigail, who’d been watching the exchange with a smile on her lips. He put his arms around her waist and pulled her to him, crushing her against his body. Every time he had her in his arms, he had to fight tooth and nail to keep from ripping her clothes off right then and there.
“How’d you find him?” he asked, his voice tinged with awe. “He disappeared two years ago and for the life of me, I couldn’t track him down.”
“I called in a couple of favors,” Abigail said, resting her hands on his chest. “I knew how important it was for you guys to see him. And considering he’s sort of the spitting image of Redmond, it was really easy finding the guy. He was working under a false name in Hawaii. He was a smokejumper there,” she explained, beaming proudly.
“That sounds like him,” Ragnar agreed, sneaking a glance at Rhodes, who was surrounded by Royce and Redmond.
It had been far too many years since all four of them were together in the same place. Ragnar could feel his bear’s contentment. The power of a werebear was always strongest around his clan and for once, the Hamiltons stood unified, feeding off of each other’s presence. It felt otherworldly. Or maybe that was just the feeling of having Abigail in his arms.
“You’re turning into an indispensable asset,” he said with a grin, placing a kiss on her forehead.
“An asset?” she snorted, punching him lightly in the ribs. “Is that what you call your mate?”
“Hmm, we’re in one of those moods, huh? Well then,” Ragnar said, grinning. “I can play that game.”
“What gam—” Abigail started, but her remark was lost as Ragnar picked her up and threw her over his shoulder, smacking her ass with one hand.
“What the hell do you think you’re doing, Ragnar?!” Abigail laughed, clinging to his shoulders.
“I’m carrying my mate into our home so I can fuck her senseless. Why?” he asked dryly, grinning to himself.
“Oh, just curious,” Abigail said, putting her elbows on his back and letting him carry her without further objections.
It wasn’t lost on Ragnar that their life was all sorts of crazy. There was an arsonist on the loose and Uncle Herbert’s will demanded four weddings and two babies. On top of it all, Ragnar’s youngest brother had shown up with clearly more baggage than could be handled with a quick chat, and Ragnar himself had recently admitted to a past that most of his family hadn’t even known about. There was a lot to untangle, but with Abigail in his arms, Ragnar was ready for anything.
Nothing would stand in the way of their happiness. He’d guarantee it.

She looked so cute when she was steaming angry. Rhodes had to bite the inside of his mouth to keep from kissing the stupid right off of her lips.
“You didn’t answer the first part,” he said coolly.
There was ice in those green eyes now. Those kitty cat eyes that seemed to look right through him whenever he was lying, that called to him when he felt like shit, and th
at made him fall in love with her over and over again.
“I had a debt to repay.”
“It’s not just that, is it?” he taunted, letting his mouth talk while his brain sat back and let him hang himself with what little rope he had. “You wanted this. You wanted to come here and see me. You miss me, don’t you, Kali? The thought of being in my arms again made you so fucking wet you couldn’t think straight, so you hopped on the first goddamn puddle jumper that would bring you back to my cock,” he hissed, leaning closer to her.
Her eyes went wide and her lips parted a little in a delicious “O” that was pleading to be kissed. Then her expression hardened and her cheeks went red with the same anger he’d seen on the runway. It drew him like a moth to a flame.
“I don’t have to listen to this, you fucking prick,” she bit out, undoing her buckle and launching for the door handle.
Before she could grab it, Rhodes had his hand under her chin, turning her head to face him, with his other hand on the back of her neck. And the next thing he knew, he was kissing the life out of her, his mouth hungrily devouring what had been his years ago, and what he knew would have to be his again.
