“Glad you approve, but I’d rather not wear a tie every day.”
“Just today?” she asked, walking over and adjusting his perfectly knotted red tie.
“Well, maybe again at the end of the summer,” he said.
“Nah, it will be too hot then. Casual. We said we’d do it casual at the house.”
Their house that would be completed in just a few more weeks. The house that ended up not only getting a complete overhaul, but a massive addition put on so they could have their own suite away from Seth’s room and Zach could have an office without distractions.
“Maybe we should keep it a secret and just go ahead and pretend it’s happening in August.”
“I don’t want to keep it a secret,” he said, looking serious.
“I guess I don’t, either.”
He looked at her for a minute. “We don’t have to do this. We can wait.”
“No. It was my idea and I want to go through with it.” She picked her purse up and walked to the door, then held it open for him. “I’m not letting you get away from me now that I’ve got you.”
“Then let’s go get married,” he said, holding open the door to the hotel room he’d spent those few days in with her back in October.
“Just remember, Zach. What happens in Vegas doesn’t have to stay there.”
“Not this time. And not with us,” he said, and yanked her forward to kiss her hard. “I can’t wait to make you mine officially. Do you know, I was so crazy about you the last time we were here, I might have even suggested this on our last day.”
“Get out,” she said, but leaned back and looked at his eyes. His expression was serious.
“You’ll never know now. You’re the one who snuck out before I could suggest it.”
“I won’t be sneaking out on you now,” she said, smiling and kissing him quickly.
“I’d catch you if you did. I’d find you and bring you back every single time.”
“Then that makes me one lucky girl.” And for once in her life, she actually believed she deserved it.
