Home For Christmas Page 30

by Patricia Potter

Julie waited, looking over the few people they had invited Mary Elizabeth, her husband and two other children, Jerry Kidder, Dan and Sandy Watters; Tim and Johnny from the garage; Dr. Dailey and his wife, and, finally, Emily and her husband, both of whom had come over to apologize for their initial attitude toward Ryan. Their daughter. Abby, looked longingly at the natty Nick as he almost skipped down the aisle.

Then Julie’s eyes went to Ryan, who stood at the front of the church with Sean O’Grady who’d flown back to Atlanta to be his best man.

As she started down the aisle, her gaze never left Ryan’s face

His features were still, solemn. He did look extraordinarily handsome in a dark blue suit, white shut and blue tie. His dark hair was neatly combed—obviously no fingers this time—and his indigo gaze, as he watched her approach, seemed to reach out and embrace her

When she reached him, he held out his hand She took it Then he smiled, a breathtaking smile that told her—and the world—how much he loved her. He leaned over and brushed her lips with a kiss, oblivious to the fact that custom said that gesture came last.

He was marching to his own drummer as he apparently always had But now that beat included her. Nick. Laura.

Her fingers tightened around his as they turned and faced the minister, even as she heard his whispered words, “I love you.”
