Solid Stone: Revolving Door Page 11

by E. G. Patrick

I smile up at him. “I am no queen, Adam, but the dress is beautiful.”

His eyes are lost in mine now. “You can be whatever you want to be Violet. Always remember that.” Why does this man make me swoon when he speaks to me? In one breath, I think he wants to control and possess me, and then in the next he is encouraging me to be confident and pleased with myself. A wonderful feeling engulfs me. Am I falling in love with Adam Stone when we haven’t even slept together yet? I turn away for a brief moment at having come to the realization that what I feel is real. I turn back to follow Adam down to the main floor. On the main floor is a breathtaking solid gold carriage. I imagine this is the other piece that was mentioned in the blog. Even Adam is in awe. The workmanship and detail is outstanding. Unfortunately, our quiet moment together is interrupted when a man and woman appear and greet him. He steps forward to embrace the woman.

“Hi Mom, hi Dad,” he says. His mother is wearing a really pretty emerald green dress. She has medium blonde hair, is tall for a woman, and holds herself with class and grace. His father has dark hair and dark blue eyes like Adam. He is dressed in a tuxedo and is over six feet tall. They make a good-looking couple. He turns to me. “This is Violet Cole. She works at the law firm I was working with on the bank merger we just completed.” I think I see a twinkle in his mother’s eye. Can she tell? I extend my hand.

“Hello. It is very nice to meet you both.” They both shake my hand and smile.

Before we can begin a conversation Adam says, “Violet, please excuse us. I promised my parents I would show them around. It’s nice seeing you.”

“Of course and enjoy your evening.” I watch Adam walk away with his parents. He turns back to me and mouths, “Sorry.” I smile back and mouth, “It’s okay.”

I walk around some more, smiling at passing people as I do. I debate whether I should look for Paul but decide against it. I want to be able to leave without being noticed. There are lots of people here and it is easy not to be found on any one of the floors. I look down at my watch and it’s already 8:45. Thankfully the time is near for me to be alone with Adam. I begin to make my way to the main entrance. The exit is in sight when Mike suddenly appears, offering me a glass of champagne. My mind begins to whirl as I manage a fake smile. I really just want to get out of here to be with Adam. I try to be polite and hide my disappointment at running into him. I tell him, “Oh no thanks, my limit is only one. I have work tomorrow and have an early start.” He seems disappointed and puts the glass intended for me on a table nearby.

“Are you still going to look around? Maybe we can walk together,” he asks.

“Thanks for the invitation, but I’m getting ready to leave to meet my boyfriend.” I hope my comment will send him away. I can see Adam standing near the entrance his arms are crossed, and he looks annoyed. Thankfully a woman approaches him and they begin talking. Even though he is talking to the women, he still glares at me every now and then. I abruptly cut off Mike by saying, “I really have to go; my boyfriend is waiting for me. It was nice meeting you.” I walk away before he can object.

My departure walks me right past Adam to the exit of the building. The fresh night air hits me and releases some of the tension of the moment before. I stand to the side so I can’t be spotted from inside.

In about five minutes Adam comes out and looks to the left. He sees me and says, “Wait here and come down the stairs in five minutes. I’ll be in the Jag at the corner over there.” He points to where he will be. I nod and watch him walk down the stairs to get his car.

The shiny black Jag pulls up at the designated spot. It really is a stunning vehicle. Adam pushes open the passenger door. I quickly jump in and close the door and then we drive off. Adam pulls the car over about two blocks away. I watch him undo his seat belt and then mine. He pulls my face towards his and kisses me with so much passion I moan into his mouth. His velvet tongue feels so good. I respond by freeing my tongue this time to explore him.

“You look stunning Violet. It was so frustrating for me not to be able to touch you in there.”

“Yes, for me too. I was counting the minutes until I could be alone with you.”

He adjusts himself back in his seat. “Put on your seatbelt, and what the fuck was Mike saying to you?”

Wow what an abrupt change, I think. “He asked me to walk around the museum with him and offered me another drink. I declined both and in fact told him I was meeting my boyfriend.”

“I saw how you quickly walked away from him. I wanted to make sure he didn’t say something that was inappropriate to you. He finds you attractive, you know.”

“I only have eyes for you Adam. I’m very much looking forward to being with you.” I watch him settle.

Adam starts the car and says, “Good. Let’s go for dinner now, you must be hungry. I’m afraid if we sit here any longer, I may lose my self-control.” I nod, feeling exactly the same way. Adam takes my hand and we drive in silence to our destination.

We dine at one of the top rated restaurants in the city, just slightly north of mid-town and located at the top of a hill in one of the nicer residential areas. The hostess greets us and takes us to a table next to the window. The view is breathtaking and with the city lights illuminated it is even more spectacular. We are seated across from each other. Adam smiles over at me as he reaches across the table to take my hands in his. He kisses both of them when a waiter comes over to welcome us. Adam scans the wine list and orders a bottle of wine for us.

“All I have thought about since I left for London was getting back here to see you, Violet.” I can’t believe this man is saying this to me.

“I feel the same way. I’ve agonized not having been able to see you.” I can feel myself blushing. The waiter comes over shows Adam the wine and he nods. The waiter opens it to decant it.

“I am very much looking forward to spending this weekend with you Violet.” I love the way he enunciates my name when he says it.

“I am too. I’m a little nervous. Don’t take that the wrong way though; it’s what I want. It really is what I want.” I make eye contact, hoping to show him how important this moment is to me.

His eyes are locked on mine. “I’m glad you still feel that way. I’m flattered to be your first.”

I feel shy again and change topics. I want to learn more about him now. “Where do you live anyway?” He chuckles, only now realizing that I don’t know.

“I live near the park. If you prefer, we can spend the weekend there. I thought the hotel would make it more special for you.”

I reply, “Either option is fine by me, as long as we are together.”

“I want it to be memorable and special so let’s stick with the hotel then. I’ll make the arrangements tomorrow for us. You have given me so much to look forward to this weekend.” He has a gorgeous smile, perfect teeth, and full sensual lips. Oh my, I want him now.

I say, “Me too, it will be all I think about from now until then. I mean that.” I want him so badly.

The waiter comes back and pours into Adam’s glass. He glances up at the waiter and nods yes. The waiter half fills my glass and then Adam’s.

“Thank you for signing the agreement.” He is genuine in his appreciation.

“It was an easy request. I’m only sorry I made such a fuss about it.”

“That’s in the past Babe. Let’s look to the future. There is something about you I can’t quite put my finger on.” He places that long magic finger of his, over his lips as if he is thinking. I can’t help but stare at it, knowing what it can do. Another hot flash rips through me and intensifies when he says, “All I know is that I find myself wanting you more than any woman I have ever met.”

I’m blushing and can feel my cheeks getting warm now too. “You are the only man I have ever wanted to be with this way Adam. Honestly. I pretty much knew from the minute I saw you. I hope I am not sound
ing clingy. I don’t want to scare you off.”

“You don’t scare me Babe. You flatter me. I wouldn’t normally do all this planning. I would just take what I want. Like I said, there’s something about you.” I feel another hot flash at the thought of him just taking me, wherever and whenever he wanted.

  “I’m counting the hours.”

Feeling satisfied with my answer, he smiles at me and then opens the menu. “What do you want to eat?”

I scan the menu and tell him, “I’ll have a salad and the lamb.”

“That sounds good. I’ll have soup and beef.” The waiter appears and takes our order. An assistant waiter comes back with bread and butter. We are alone again and holding hands across the table. The connection between the two of us is magical. He must feel the same yearnings I do. At least, I hope he does.

The appetizers arrive and the waiter pours more wine. “This is such a nice restaurant,” I tell Adam. “I have always wanted to come here and wondered if I ever would. It’s really lovely. Thank you for bringing me here.”

“I feel like I want to take you anywhere you want to go. You just have to let me know, okay?”

My heart beats faster, this evening of getting to know one another, is better than I had imagined. This gem of a man is offering to take me anywhere I want to go. I feel a sense of security for the first time since we met.

I ask him, “Do you have any brothers or sisters?”

“I have a sister who is younger than me. She is studying, doing her MBA in international business.”

“Your parents seem nice. What about them?”

“My father is an executive and my mother studied art, mostly in Europe. She paints as a hobby now.” He is smiling as he says this. “What else do you want to know? Ask away.”

  “Do you have any hobbies?”

“I do, although I don’t have a lot of time to enjoy them. I like my work and winning. I also like sailing, car racing, and I play golf when I can.” The waiter returns to clear our appetizer plates and pour more wine for us.

“You consider work a hobby?” I ask.

“A hobby is what you like to do. I like my work and the success that comes with it. I am pleased with the results so far.”

“So you are a workaholic then?” I’m thinking of Ann’s comment the other day.

“Yes, I suppose so, but believe me, when you are under me I promise I won’t be thinking of work. All of my attention will be on you,” he grins. Another pulsation shoots through me with the visualization of me being pinned under him. I know I’m blushing.

“That’s good to know. At least I can help you with your downtime then.” I sheepishly grin back and decide to change the subject feeling quite hot at his comment. I swallow and push back my hot flash as I ask. “So what are our plans this weekend, then?”

“Let’s meet on Friday after work and check into the hotel. Once we’re in the room, well, you can imagine what I’ll do to you. I very much look forward to that. When we take a break, we’ll order room service and then I’ll get back to you.” He grins and looks devilish.

I know I am crimson. “That sounds like an intense evening.”

“Oh Violet, it will be intense, very intense. I promise I won’t disappoint you. You won’t want me to stop, that I am sure of.” He is so blasted confident, even borderline arrogant, and I love it. I’m full of desire as I look at this man sitting across from me. He continues, “And Saturday, I’ll plan something for us. Unfortunately on Sunday, I will have to drop you off after lunch as I have a flight in the evening.”

“It all sounds intriguing except for Sunday of course. I’ll be sad on Sunday.” I sigh openly, already dreading it.

“You’ll be sore and will need the time to recuperate. I am also sure of that too.” He is serious again.

My inner thoughts yell at me: that sounds scary and hot! I reply sounding confident, “Nothing you say can deter me from what I want, which is you.” His grin widens; what is he really thinking I wonder? The waiter approaches with our main dishes. I take my first bite of the lamb. “Oh this is delicious,” I say with such passion.

“I told you I wouldn’t disappoint you. I’m glad you like it.”

“Do you want to try some?”

“Sure.” I cut a piece of the tender meat and feed it to Adam. I think of Gia and how she serves the prince.

“Yes, it’s very good. Want some of mine?” he asks.

“Yes, please.” I watch him cut me a piece of meat. He carefully puts the fork to my lips and then pulls it away as I am about to take it.

He is grinning. “Sorry, here, I won’t pull it away this time. I was just being playful. Do you like playfulness Violet?”

“Ah, yes I think I do.” He finally puts the meat in my mouth and that grin is back as he does it. I tell him. “It’s delicious and thanks for bringing me here.”

“It’s my pleasure.” Adam has no more wine when the waiter offers it. He looks at me as the waiter pours some into my glass. I know he’s thinking about my outburst the last time we had dinner together.

“Adam, don’t worry. I’m not drunk and I promise not to run off.” I smile and reach across the table to touch his hand. He relaxes. His gaze penetrates mine and he gives me the most beautiful smile I have ever seen. He is very good at making me feel like it’s just me and him.

The waiter comes back to clear our plates and Adam asks me, “Do you want dessert or something else?” He winks at me. “If not, we should probably be on our way as I have an early meeting tomorrow morning.” He’s so responsible. I wink back thinking how much I wish we were about to spend the night together.

Instead, I politely say, “I’m good, the meal was delicious. Thank you Adam.” He asks for just the check. He’s such a gentleman. He walks over to my side of the table to pull out my chair and we leave the restaurant walking hand in hand. Adam opens my car door and helps me in and then runs around the car and jumps in beside me. I lean over and kiss him. I can’t resist, the feelings floating around inside of me are all new and full of hope for us. Adam wraps his arms around me and begins to kiss me very passionately.

“I want to take you home with me right now,” he growls between kisses.

  “Why don’t you?” I ask.

“I will have a memorable evening planned for us, and it will be worth the wait. Self-control Violet, it’s the key to success in everything.” He starts the car and turns up the smooth jazz on the satellite radio station. It’s soothing and sexy music. When he pulls up in front of my building I know to wait for Adam to open my door. The small gesture makes me feel very special and makes me want him that much more. Adam takes my hand to help me out of the car. He keeps my hand in his and walks me up to my apartment entrance door.

“Are you sure you don’t want to come up?” I think he might actually be thinking about it.

“No, it’s getting late.” His self-control is unbelievable. Short of taking off my clothes, I have made it clear he can take me any time. Not Adam. He is sticking with his plan, no wonder he is so successful. He kisses me goodnight and says, “I’ll see you on Friday, sleep well.” He releases my hand and waits until I am securely behind the door. As I begin to walk up the stairs I look back and see that he’s watching. I wave to him and he waves back before I see him turn around to leave.

  Chapter 11

On Thursday morning I’m still feeling heavenly from the night before with Adam, even though I didn’t sleep very well with all the anticipation bubbling inside of me. My excitement about my possible new life has gotten me up very early again. I keep replaying the night in my head as I put on a pair of flats for my commute to work. The reaction I got from Adam last night about how I looked makes me want to look my best.

At my office building I ride up in the elevator with the rest of the working crowd. I wave to Molly. Paul and three other lawyers are getting ready
to meet, and I join them to take notes. They go around the table with their updates on cases they’re working on. My role as note taker has its benefits as it helps me to be proactive in my role. Attending these meetings keeps me informed of priorities and enables me to plan accordingly. It’s also gives me insight into some of the firm’s projects.

After the meeting, Paul asks me if I can have lunch with him. I am not shocked, as we’ve had lunch before.

“Sure that would be great. What time?” I ask.

“How about we miss the noon rush and head out at 11:30?”

“That sounds good. I’ll see you then.”

As I go back to my desk, I check my personal email, not something I did before. Now that I have Adam in my life, I check it more frequently through the day. There is an email from Adam.

  From: Adam Stone

  To: Violet Cole

  Subject: Finally

Violet, I hope you’re having a good morning. It was so nice having you alone last night. I’m counting the hours to tomorrow night. Did you sleep well last night? I hope I didn’t scare you with some of the comments I made. I promise you a memorable weekend. Adam.

There is something very hot about receiving an email from a man you want badly about your plans to have sex, especially for the first time. It’s even more appealing when he’s the one making all the arrangements, and when it’s someone like Adam Stone. I reply to his email:

  From: Violet Cole

  To: Adam Stone

  Subject: Re: Finally

Hi Adam, no, I didn’t sleep well last night. I’m excited and nervous at the same time. I’m also counting the minutes and seconds. All I seem to be able to think about is just being with you. Please don’t worry; I’m looking forward to what you have planned for me. I may be a little nervous, but my desire to be with you will trump that. I miss you so much and it’s only been one day! Violet xoxoxo
