  Chapter One

Five months after the fall of civilization

It was only supposed to be an immunization, one that was a failsafe for people getting something as minor as the flu. But then they had realized by accident that it also prevented and stopped the spread of cancerous cells. It had been hailed worldwide as a magnificent accomplishment, one where the scientists had thought they had come across something monumental. Well, they had, and it had turned to shit and backfired in the worst possible way. The ones that had gotten it started exhibiting signs of cannibalism and necrosis of the entire body. They became far sicker than anyone could have imagined. Everyone thought they were safe, that they were helping people, curing something as devastating as cancer. They had been wrong. Whatever was in the flu shots had infected people, changed something inside of them and made them crazed, thirsty for blood, and something that wasn’t considered human. It slowly killed them from the inside out, made their flesh rot, every orifice bleed, and all logical reasoning vanish. What made this already disastrous situation even graver was that all it took to have the healthy become mindless drones salivating for death was a scratch or bite from the sick. The incubation period for someone who was infected ranged from person to person, but the end result was always the same. They became something that Sparrow had read about, seen in movies, but never thought would become a reality, her reality.

How quickly things changed. Even months after the infection Sparrow still couldn’t believe how fast the world had deteriorated. It had spread from an isolated incident in the United States to something that affected the entire world. Riots had broken out. The healthy were killing off one another, and people were becoming uncivilized and as ravenous as the sick that walked beside them.

The sound of a deep but low moan filled her ears despite the fact Sparrow knew they were trying to stay quiet. She closed her eyes and clenched her thighs together. She was currently in an abandoned building that she could tell had been a mechanic’s shop before all of this had gone down. There were a few wrenches and other tools scattered on the floor, a dented toolbox turned on its side with about an inch of dust collected on it pushed against one corner, and various other “shop” material on the ground. The front door hung from its hinges; the bay door looked as if a car had tried to drive through it, and the only two windows had long since lost their glass. Sparrow stared out of one of them. The floor was hard and unforgiving, but the stillness around her was welcome. But then there was another gruff sound, followed by a longer moan, and then silence. Yeah, clearly they had just gotten off. She covered her face with her hands and breathed out deeply. How wrong was it that she could hear Mason Stone and Asher Vincent fucking no more than a few feet from her? Not as wrong as getting wet because she could hear them, picture them doing it, and wanting to be a part of it. Although it was selfish for her to think they shouldn’t continue with their … relationship, or whatever it was that was going on between them just because she had joined their group.

They had helped her three days ago when she had been attacked by one of the infected. Sparrow knew how to take care of herself. She wouldn’t have lasted this long if she hadn’t been willing to kill to survive, but she had been so tired from the running, from the situation, and just from the life she was living in general. But as they say, Mason and Asher had been at the right place and right time, and had pulled the bloody, snapping, clawing body away from her. They had killed him without so much as blinking. Mason had sliced its neck, and then proceeded to stab it in the skull three different times. It only took one clean hit to the head to kill them, but she remembered vividly the look on Mason’s face as he killed what used to be a man.

It was frighteningly vicious, and he had looked like he enjoyed it immensely.

They had then given her the choice to go with them, or stay on her own. It hadn’t been a difficult decision to make. For the past month she had been by herself, and although she had survived thus far, she really didn’t know how much longer she could last. Sparrow was also sick and tired of having no one. Solitude was a nasty bitch. So, she had gone with them without any hesitation. They had given her food and water from their own rations, and hadn’t wanted anything in return except for her to keep up with them, stay quiet, and not get in their way if they came up against trouble. That said a lot about them, and so did the fact they didn’t expect sexual favors as payment for what they gave her.

She didn’t know much about the two men, because Sparrow did keep to herself, stayed out of their way, and focused on just living one day at a time. She pulled her knees to her chest and wrapped her arms around her legs. She had known instantly there had been something going on between the two muscular men because she saw the way they looked at each other. But obviously all of that was now cemented, especially when the sound of their fucking replayed in her head like a broken record. Sparrow was unbearably uncomfortable because she found the sounds, and then the images those noises conjured, extremely arousing. God, it had been so long since she had been with a man, and that was including before the infection hit. Even though shit had hit the fan, and sex should be the last thing on her mind, Sparrow found the images slamming into her head over and over again a little too hard to ignore. But if she was being honest, if only to herself, she didn’t want to ignore them.

“You’re too fucking loud, baby.” Mason grunted softly as he pushed into Ash’s ass again. He was tight and squeezed his cock like he wanted to break the fucking thing off.

“Yeah?” Ash panted out that one word, and reached behind to grip Mason’s neck, pulling him forward, and slammed his mouth on his. They kissed long and hard as Mason fucked Ash in and out of the ass with measured strokes. They had scouted out the area before stopping here for the night, deemed it safe, and had slipped out when they saw Sparrow sleeping. But then he heard her shuffle around inside and knew she hadn’t been asleep like they’d thought. They had moved around the building, farther away from where she was, but that didn’t mean she still wouldn’t be able to hear them, especially if she knew what they were doing.

Either way he couldn’t stop, not when it felt too good. He tightened his hold on Asher’s shoulder and braced his hand on the wall beside him. He may be lost in the tightening and releasing of Ash’s inner muscles around his dick, but that didn’t mean he let his guard down. Mason was still fully aware of what was going on, of the sound of the wind blowing through the trees, and of the crickets chirping nearby. He moved his hips back and forth, faster and faster until his balls were slapping against Ash’s nuts and his orgasm was perilously close to the surface. Moving his hand down his shoulder and around Ash’s hard, rippled abdomen, Mason gripped his huge erection and started stroking it in time with his thrusts. The slick, wet feel of Ash’s pre-cum sliding over his hand was Mason’s breaking point. He pressed his forehead between the ot
her man’s broad shoulders and shook as he came. The pleasure was indescribable, and it was over far too soon.

“Fuck, Mason.” Ash panted out those two words, but Mason couldn’t have put it any better.

“Yeah.” For a second Mason stayed buried deep within the other man’s ass, but he finally pulled out and looked down at his half-flaccid cock. The condom he wore was from one of the many packs they had found at a convenience store they searched back in Hampton. He tore the condom off, tied it off, and tossed it into a trash pit that was a foot from where they stood. Asher turned around, and Mason zeroed in on his dick. He was still hard, and a string of pre-cum dripped from the tip of his slit to the ground. “You look like you ache, Asher.” Their pants were around their ankles, and the heat from their bodies bouncing back and forth had sweat beading along Mason’s spine. “Do you want my mouth or my ass, baby?” He reached between their bodies and gripped his shaft. After stroking it a few times and watching the ecstasy cover Ash’s face, the other man placed a hand over his, stopping Mason’s movements.

“I’m going to come if you don’t stop.”

“That’s the point.” Ash grunted in response to Mason’s statement. They breathed roughly against each other.

“I want you to suck me off, and take my cock so deep into your mouth it hits the back of your throat.”

Mason’s cock started to harden once more, but right now was about getting Ash off. Checking their surroundings once more and not feeling any threats, he dropped to his knees and tightened his hold on the root of Ash’s dick. Mason opened his mouth and engulfed the head. Despite never being with a man before Ash, Mason grew aroused at the salty flavor that coated his tongue. But it wasn’t because of the fact he was clearly attracted to men, because he had never wanted to be with the same sex until he had met Asher. It was the other man that had changed something inside of him, or maybe he just opened up something in Mason that he hadn’t known was locked?

“Fuck, that’s it,” Asher grunted out and gripped a chunk of Mason’s hair. A deep groan left him at the sting of pain, and he sucked harder, and took more of him in. He moved his hand lower so that he could take hold of Ash’s balls and roll them around in his palm.. He felt the heavy weights draw up, sensed Asher’s impending orgasm, and took all of him in his mouth. The tip of his cock slammed against the back of his throat when Ash pressed his hips forward in one final thrust. He came long and hard, pumped his cum right down Mason’s throat, and didn’t move away until his dick had grown soft.

Still on his knees, Mason looked up at Ash, still standing there with his big, yet flaccid cock hanging between his legs, and a small amount of cum dripping from the tip. There didn’t need to be anything said, and in fact that was how it usually was. They didn’t cuddle after they fucked, but it wasn’t because what they had just done meant anything less. They knew where they stood on their feelings for each other, and that was good enough for them. Mason stood and pulled up his pants, and Ash did the same. Mason pulled the other man closer, slanted his mouth on his, and licked at his bottom lip.

“We better get back inside. I know Sparrow is up, and I feel like an asshole for her being in there alone while we fuck outside.” Asher leaned back. He was a good man, a considerate one, and sure as hell a lot more decent than Mason.

“Yeah, I heard her shuffling around. I thought she was asleep when we came out here.” Ash nodded in agreement. He had seen the way the other man looked at her, but for as much as he cared about Ash, Mason didn’t feel any jealousy over the way Asher scanned her body, or the fact he had spotted the erection Ash didn’t even try to hide when he looked at her. The reality was that both of them had never been with another man until they met each other. It was natural for them to want to be with her, and yeah, Mason wanted her, too. They’d definitely need to talk about what the plan was concerning her, and the sooner the better.

The air heated, and Sparrow closed her eyes when she heard them step into the building. At twenty-three she wasn’t a stranger to sex, and certainly had never thought of herself as a pushover. She had been secure and happy in her life before the fall of humanity, and things had been looking up for her. But none of that mattered now. All that mattered was not getting attacked by the fucking infected, eaten by cannibalistic humans, or taken as the sexual plaything for the deranged healthy, which was not just a worry. She hoped that one day she wouldn’t have to worry about how she was going to survive, or if she would even see the next day. Keeping her back to Mason and Asher, she rested her forehead on her knees and breathed out. She was tired, her feet hurt, and all she wanted to do was sleep until she couldn’t sleep any longer. But until they could get to Mason’s cabin, one that he said was high in the Rocky Mountains and surrounded by the thick covering of protective trees, she had to press forward. Sparrow couldn’t remember the last time she had slept a full night, because it was as if her body was programmed anymore to come to attention at the slightest sound.

“You want something to eat?” She looked over her shoulder at the sound of Mason’s deep voice. The only thing she knew about them was that Asher had been a trained MMA fighter, but for the last few years before the infection hit he hadn’t fought legally. She had overheard him talking to Mason, telling a story about a fighter he had trained for a back alley fight. Sparrow didn’t even know those things even happened outside of a Street Fighter video game. Mason had to be in the military, and although she didn’t know what branch, or even if her suspicions were accurate, her father had been a Marine, and she could spot a man in the service a mile away. Mason had that “air” about him, one that was commanding and dominant. The men were on their haunches, going through their packs, and so she took a moment to look at them. They were big, easily a foot taller than her five foot three, and muscular. God, were they muscular. Even under the smudges of dirt covering parts of their flesh and clothing, they were attractive, to put it mildly. Was Sparrow in that much need of male attention that she had become some kind of hormonal teenager? It sure as hell felt that way, and to be honest it scared the shit out of her.

It was clear that even on the road they made sure to keep in shape, although it was imperative to be strong, especially if someone had a handful of the infected coming after them. Supplies were scare, but whatever training Mason had allowed him to find things in the woods that were edible. They even caught a few fish in a lake they had come across. That was at least one positive thing in this whole situation: the infected didn’t give two shits about the wildlife, and because of that overpopulation of the animals was astounding. Good for them, especially when she had Mason and Asher in her corner.

Sparrow stood and dusted off the dirt from her ass. Making her way toward them, she pulled up one of the toolboxes that had seen better days and sat down. The sun had set hours ago, and a lone lit candle sat between them in a rusted out cup. Mason took out a can of beans, a spoon that had seen better days, some jerky, and a bottle of water. Their supplies were running low, but Mason said there was a town about ten miles from them.

“Once we reach Rockport it should only be another twenty-five or so miles to the cabin.” Mason pulled out a scary as hell looking knife—one that could easily saw a human body in half, at least in Mason’s hands—and went to work on getting the can open. Asher had secured the front door, the bay door was locked from the outside with a padlock, and the small side door led to a postage stamp sized office that was missing half a wall. Even though all exits were secured, they could easily get out of them if they needed to. The windows were high and small enough that the infected couldn’t get through.

“You think Rockport will have anything left?” Asher sat next to Mason, and the three of them started passing around the can of beans and jerky.

Mason shrugged and swallowed the mouthful of food before speaking. “Not sure. I know that the smaller towns lasted longer after the infection than the bigger cities, but it has been months. I doubt there is much left, but we might be able t
o find a few supplies.” They finished eating in silence, and then they sat there, no one speaking, but the discomfort thick.

Maybe she was the only one that felt this way? She certainly hadn’t been very social before the infection hit, and it kind of made it even more awkward for her now given the fact she felt like some kind of third wheel in their relationship.

“So, Sparrow.” She lifted her eyes and looked at Asher. He leaned against the wall with his arms crossed, and for a moment Sparrow let her eyes travel over the hard, defined lines of his biceps. “You got a last name?” His white t-shirt, or what had once been white, molded to his chest, and even with the single candlelight being the only form of illumination, she could still make out the ridges that lined his abdomen.

She stared into his eyes, ones that she couldn’t see very well because of the shadows, but that she knew were a bright blue. Even after traveling with them she had only told them the bare minimum about herself, and she didn’t think a last name was really important anymore. “Gray. It’s Gray.” His blond hair was short, but then again Mason had just cut it with a rusty pair of scissors. She flicked her eyes to Mason. He watched her silently, but she noticed he did that a lot.

“Is Sparrow a nickname or something?” She didn’t talk her eyes off Mason when Asher asked her.

Clearing her throat, she pulled her jacket closer to her body and shook her head. “No, my parents just wanted their kid named after a bird, I suppose.” She hadn’t said it to try to be funny, but apparently he thought it was because Asher chuckled softly. She’d hated her name growing up, got teased relentlessly during school because of it, but now as an adult she liked that it was so unusual.
