  Acknowledgments

Every author owes a huge debt of gratitude to the team supporting them. St. Martin’s Minotaur took the leap with me as I explored new characters, a new setting, and a new series, and I am very blessed to be backed by such talent. Kelley Ragland, I am so thrilled to be finally working with you! Thank you for your enthusiasm and brilliant editorial guidance. Madeline Houpt, Hector DeJean, Danielle Prielipp, and many others—all of you, thank you for your extraordinary efforts in helping bring this book to life.

Ellen Geiger at Frances Goldin Literary Agency: my dear friend and agent for almost twenty years. Oh, the stories we could tell! And Matt McGowan—you are the best. How you keep track of things on my behalf, I’ll never know. Thank you both for taking such good care of me.

To Christine Pepe—your friendship and support means the world.

A belated thank-you to Scott Wentzka, for his sculptural inspiration. Your piece helped me write a book, and when I can afford you, I’ll add it to my collection.

To PJ, always. Love never dies.
