“What’s she getting?” Seth asked.
We shrugged.
Bianca climbed back into the jeep with a single bag. “Let’s go home.”
* * *
Bianca slid the jar of peanut butter from the bag. “I hope you like grape,” she said, assembling four sandwiches. “Grab your milk. Let’s have a toast.” We raised our glasses. “Molly, will you do the honors?”
“To faith. Being sure of what we hope for.” The verse leapt from my tongue.
“To faith,” Seth, Bianca, and Lenni echoed. We clinked glasses.
Tears slid down Bianca’s cheeks as she chewed.
Lenni licked jelly from her fingers. “You know what fruit I like best? Pomegranates,” she said, not waiting for an answer. “My mom used to buy them for me when I was little, but I haven’t had one in forever.” She furrowed her brow. “Do they still make pomegranates?”
Bianca wiped her eyes then rolled them.
I coughed as milk dribbled from my nose.
“What’s so funny?” Lenni asked, her eyes filled with question marks.
Seth dropped his sandwich to the counter and doubled over, holding his ribs.
I laughed until I got the hiccups.

Anna Marie Kittrell works as a middle school secretary in the same small, Oklahoma town where she grew up. There she resides with her high school sweetheart-turned-husband, Tim, and their sixteen-year-old daughter.
Anna has written stories for as long as she can remember. She still has most of her tattered creations—leftovers she was unable to sell on the playground for a dime—written in childish handwriting on notebook paper, bound with too many staples. Her love of storytelling has grown throughout the years. She is thrilled her tales are now worth more than ten cents.
