“You won’t believe what just happened.”

I explained Marissa’s appearance at my door, and Tyler immediately went into lawyer mode.

“Ok, you need to call the cops, tell them what happened. You need to call her family. You need to tell everyone.”

“I don’t know if she can handle the cops right now, she seems pretty traumatized.”

“Well you’re going to have to do it at some point. Hell, a death certificate’s been issued. There’s an empty grave out there with her name on it. This is going to involve some paperwork.”

“Paperwork is the last thing on my mind right now. I think I need to get her a good therapist.”

When I ended the call with Tyler a few minutes later, I put the phone down. He was right, of course. There was going to be a lot of paperwork involved. And, I suspected, a lot of tears. Likely from both of us. But for now, I knew Marissa was alive. She was in my bed for the first time in over three years. She was home, she was safe. I knew that no matter what the future brought, we would face it. Together.
