Heart of a Rebel Page 16

by Glenna Maynard

But I am thankful to see him ride at all. I know he could never fully give up his passion. There was a time I thought he was dead and that I’d never get to feel the wind in my hair, or my arms wrapped around him, with the power of the bike rumbling under my ass. To say that the sight of him with his son teaching him the rules of the road brings me to tears would be an understatement.

Cole waves at me over his father’s shoulder. I blow kisses at both my guys feeling as though nothing bad will ever touch us again.

I know that isn’t reasonable, but I can hope.

  Epilogue

  Cole

  Age 18

My parents just don’t understand, I don’t want to go to college after graduation. I want to ride on my Harley out on the open road, with nothing but my motorcycle and me.

My mother says that I will find myself in college and says that is the end of the conversation. I know my dad understands, I see the look he gives me when I speak about the idea of travelling on my motorcycle for the summer. He looks nostalgic. My old man lives to ride. We often go out together on the weekends.

My sister Sara is always begging me to drive her around on my bike. Annoying as hell, but my mom makes me. My little sister just turned twelve. Our house is full of screaming and giggling preteen giggling girls. I can’t wait to get the hell out of here.

I am hiding in the attic right now to escape Sara’s friends and my mom’s lectures about what am I going to do with my life. “Motorcycles won’t pay bills,” she says nagging in my ear.

Frustrated I kick an old box. It falls apart. Great. Bending down to salvage the cardboard a book catches my eye. Dusting off the cover, I can’t read the title. Opening it up it appears to be a journal or diary of some sort.

The inside is made out to Kara Marie. Never heard of her. Curiously, I flip through the pages. Damn, man, she had a sad life. It’s mainly a bunch of sad stories and entries about losing her dad but things get interesting as I continue to turn the pages. This Kara whoever she was had a road name, Gypsy Red.

Reading through her adventures as an Outlaw is exciting. I can feel the wind whip against my face as I read her tale. This chick was badass…she lived the life. I skim through deciding to read more later. A picture is sticking out from the back. A fierce looking redhead, with hair matching my own is standing next to a scary looking man. He has tattoos on his face. The writing on the back is familiar the penmanship sticks out. It’s my mother’s writing.

Baby Jones daughter of Gypsy Red and Grim.

Real names Kara Marie and Jack Jones.

  Thomas ‘Striker’ Black and Baby

  One son Colt Black

That’s it—that is all she wrote. Who were these people and what do they mean to my mom?

Maybe it is nothing, it was left up here in the attic to dust and ruin. Grabbing the book, I am left with questions. Who were the Black Rebel Riders’ MC?

My sister and her friends run past me dressed in fancy dresses, wearing tiaras and too much makeup. I yank Sara’s bright red hair and she stomps on my foot.

  “You look like a harlot.”

Her honey whiskey eyes narrow on me. “You are just a big dumb poophead that none of the girls will date because you have freckles. At least I can wear makeup to cover mine.” She sticks her tongue out and runs after her girlfriends.

Going into my room, I pop in my headphones and blare my music loudly. I can’t shake this thought that the diary has something to do with my parents. I start typing in outlaw bikers and get hit with a bunch of stupid shit about some TV show.

I need to narrow my search. I type in Grim Jones and find an article written about him going to jail. I find out that he is from a small town in Kentucky named Drag Creek.

After not finding much more about him I type in Baby Jones, A news report from sixteen years ago surfaces, she was murdered in a kidnapping gone wrong her and her son. The nature of her death isn’t what shocks me—it’s her photo.

The woman could pass for my mother. The photo is dark and grainy but she definitely looks like my mom. Holy shit, she is my mom!

I am in utter shock as I stare at the picture. My mom is a hypocrite and a liar. Wonder what she would think if I found her father and aired her dirty secret, that she is alive.

How many other secrets have my parents kept? How dare they try to tell me that I have to go to college? They had a whole other life that they never told me about; I had a whole other life when I was first born. She can’t tell me that I am not Colt.

I know my mom won’t give me any answers but maybe my grandpa Jack will. I am going to find him and find out why mom faked her death and mine.

  The End

Keep reading for a note from the author and details on more books to come in the Black Rebel Riders’ MC Series.

  Author’s Note

  Dear readers,

Thank you so much for continuing to come along for the ride with me and my bikers. This book does not signal the end of the series. I have a story for Tread planned along with The Diary of Gypsy Red. I am also working on a story for Cole/Colt. Will he find Grim and find what he is searching for? There are still so many possibilities to explore with these characters. I love watching them continue to evolve and grow.

Every time I write a book in this series, I never know what the outcome will be. With that said, I hope you are enjoying the ride and I look forward to reading your thoughts and hearing from you.

Ride free or die trying…Black Rebel Riders’ MC

  Much love,
