Epilogue
She never thought they would be so accepting. Never in a million years. A child of the Uktena. But they welcomed her with open arms. They stayed with her and her mate while they healed. They didn’t pry her away from their pup for his safety. They didn’t kill her on-site. They accepted her.
It was the most shocking thing she ever saw. If they could accept her so lovingly then it meant no more running. No more hiding. Sa’dyah had tried to be close to Dae but far enough away that she wouldn’t step in Dae’s life. Only when she had to, only when she discovered what those humans were doing. Sa’dyah’s eyes burned at the memories of how she found her pup… Those humans never hurt anyone ever again.
Sa’dyah thought it was strange how her pup followed her. She was shocked at how in the past year; she would find Dae everywhere walking towards her like Dae knew where she was. It was the strangest thing. The closer Sa’dyah got to her pup, the more she found Dae seeking her out subconsciously. It scared Sa’dyah in the beginning. The evil bastard that was her father had many magics… Sa’dyah was frightened of him all through her time there.
But soon after her capture, she felt it; she felt the pull to him. She thought it was his magics originally and almost accused him of it. The pregnancy was what opened her eyes.
She was his only prisoner then. The others were kept elsewhere. He wouldn’t let anyone else come near her cage. He was the only one allowed by her. He would even talk to her towards the end of her time there. Sa’dyah thought there was some humanity in him, deep down where she could save him from himself. She soon realized the curse that tainted his soul was too strong. There wasn’t a man left. Only the Uktena, the serpent he used to eat the souls of the innocent. How she wished she could have helped him then. It still hurt even now.
Sometimes he would sit by her cage and watch her with those unearthly eyes…
When she had given birth and saw those same eyes, Sa’dyah couldn’t think. She never planned to give up Dae. But she wasn’t strong enough to deal with those unearthly eyes watching her as he used to watch her. He was gone now, no longer able to hurt her. Sa’dyah didn’t have to keep running from him. The rumor was that the young alpha was the one to kill him. But Sa’dyah knew… she felt that it wasn’t.
No one had been able to kill him for millennia. He was old and very smart. She heard the stories when she was trapped of how he viciously killed his father to have control of the remaining Cursed, of how he used the Snake Serpent against his own father.
The child who killed the father…
Maybe it wasn’t as bad as she thought. Maybe her daughter was not Cursed like he was; maybe she was different. Sa’dyah had no proof that her pup killed her own father; only her instincts. And Sa’dyah knew the only way to figure it all out was to come forward…
Dear Reader,
Thank you for coming along for the beginning of Dae & Iya’s story. I have written many short stories but these characters became something more. I am sure every author likes the characters they develop or hates them supremely –otherwise why would we write about them? But Dae & Iya became far-away friends… I can’t wait to finish the next book in the series. This is the first installment of the Lost Ones and I hope you will want to see them to the finish line. The next title in this series is tentatively titled : Found & Feral.
Until next time,
