Like Breathing Page 19

“Yeah, me too, love. Me too,” he said as he went in to cuddle with Seth for a moment.

LEAF CALLED them when they were prepping dinner and told them he’d be there for a while still. They left him a plate in the oven and ate with just the two of them.

When they took the dogs for an evening walk, Dev decided to talk about something that still bothered him.

“I’ve been thinking about talking to Angel,” he said quietly, and Seth reached for his hand as the dogs sniffed around.

  “Yeah?”

“I haven’t talked to him at all since the fight. I know by now Mom and Dad have probably spoken to him, but he hasn’t…. I mean, I would’ve thought he’d contact me first. But he’s stubborn as fuck sometimes.”

“For what it’s worth, I think he’s okay with us. Well, okayish.”

“Oh?” Dev looked at Seth, confused.

“Yeah, he came to the office on Monday. Some actual stuff was going on with his studies that I needed to know, but we talked about us too,” Seth said, obviously choosing his words carefully.

  “Okay.”

“Okay? That’s it?” Seth grinned at him.

“Yeah. I mean, you’re bound to have to have some sort of a professional relationship with him no matter what.” Dev thought about it all while they walked back to the house that Dev was starting to call home in his head sometimes.

“You gonna call him?” Seth asked when they were wiping down paws and making sure Missy and Husky wouldn’t squish Weasley, who was waiting on a heating pad for Grace.

“Yeah. I’ll go into the study for that.”

“Okay, I’ll watch some TV, and Leaf should be home soon.”

Dev grabbed his phone from the charger and went to sit in his gaming chair in the office. For a moment he couldn’t make himself do it, but eventually he selected Angel’s number and pressed call.

It didn’t take long for him to answer.

“Dev, is everything okay?” Angel asked, sounding worried.

“Yeah,” Dev managed to say without sounding too choked up. “I’m so good, Angel. I just….”

A silence spread between them, and he could hear Angel breathing at the other end.

“I know. I’m sorry, okay,” Angel said finally. “It messed with my head, and I don’t really even know why, if I’m completely honest.”

“I’m so fucking happy.” Dev knew his voice was quiet, but Angel heard him anyway.

  “That’s good. I’m glad.”

“Oh, I don’t know when I’m coming back, though. I might be a daddy now,” he said, waiting for Angel’s reaction.

  “You what?”

“Found a kitten last weekend. Really pitiful little thing. We call him Weasley.”

  “Aww, is he ginger?”

“Yeah, so very. He’s still bottle-fed, but one of the dogs, Grace, she loves the little guy and keeps him safe and warm. We just have to play with him and feed him.”

“Sounds nice,” Angel said a bit wistfully. Then he cleared his throat. “I might’ve met a girl.”

“Oh, really?” Dev stretched the first syllable of “really” enough to make Angel chuckle.

“Yeah. It’s early days, but she’s interesting and… she’s pretty awesome.”

They talked for a moment longer about this mystery girl and the dogs and Weasley, and then Dev decided to get back to the hard subjects.

“So, I know you don’t like me being with Seth and Leaf, but I am.”

“I just don’t want to see any of it for now. Like… you know it’s not the gay thing, that would be pretty hypocritical of me, but….”

  “Don’t mess with your studies?”

  “Yeah, exactly.”

  “We won’t.”

They ended the call on a relatively good note, and Dev sighed. Yeah, maybe it would all work out somehow.

  Chapter Fourteen

TWO WEEKS went by, and both Weasley and Dev had become parts of the household more than Seth could’ve ever imagined.

Missy gently playing with the now five-week-old cat had to be one of the best things he’d ever witnessed. Who would’ve thought it took a kitten to make Missy play nice and calm?

One night they were watching TV, and Missy was playing with Weasley around the couch and coffee table. During a commercial break, Dev suddenly piped up. “Here, we see the majestic Fluffy Weasley Beast stalking its unsuspecting prey.”

Both Seth and Leaf burst out laughing at his imitation of Sir David Attenborough.

“Sometimes, the prey becomes ambitious and thinks it can outrun the Weasley Beast. On other occasions it has been known to try to counterattack the Beast, but that usually leads to a surprise warning sound from across the valley.”

Seth, with tears running from his eyes, tried to breathe through the laughter.

As if on cue, Missy got a bit too rowdy and Grace rumbled a warning from her spot on the dog bed.

“Oh my God, I’m going to pee myself,” Seth choked out, and Leaf shook his head, laughing still, while Dev tried his best to look innocent.

Weasley decided he’d had enough, but instead of going to Grace, he toddled to the couch and climbed up Leaf’s pant leg. Once he got to his knee, he preened like a tiny little orange peacock.

“You’re such a clever boy, aren’t you?” Leaf cooed at the cat and petted him.

Weasley meowed, then made his way to Dev and climbed onto his shoulder. He curled up there, eyelids starting to droop a little.

“I think that’s my cue to take the dogs out. Once we’re back in, we can feed him and then go to bed.”

It had been a long day for all of them. Seth had been at the college from eight to five, Dev had been working in the home study, and Leaf had visited Annie’s shelter and done some emailing with clients who needed help but didn’t require a visit.

Once Leaf was out the door with the dogs, Seth turned to Dev. “Leaf’s birthday is on Saturday.”

“Oh? I didn’t know that,” Dev said, frowning.

“Yeah, and I know there’s this fantasy of his that I haven’t been able to fulfill with the issues I have….”

Dev smirked. “So you’re thinking a joint present as a surprise? Tell me more….”

Seth leaned back and smiled. “He wants a blowjob in my office at work.”

“Oh-ho!” Dev exclaimed hard enough to get a nasty look from the tiny feline on his shoulder. “That’s risky.”

“Yeah, exactly. That’s why we’re going to do it on Saturday when I’m not supposed to be working, and we’re sure as hell locking the door.”

“But how are we going to get Leaf there without him realizing what’s going on?”

“You’ll be at home, but as soon as we’re out the door, you’ll come after us in my car. I’ll feign headache and ask if Leaf can drive me to work and back for something I forgot. I get headaches occasionally, and sometimes I get wobbly because of them. He won’t let me go inside without him for sure. Then all we need is for you to follow us in.”

Dev looked delighted. “This sounds hot. I’m all for it.”

“Good. And Weasley is old enough to be left with Grace in the study when we go, so that’s a plus.”

“Yeah, good thinking. Don’t want to leave him in the same room with Missy and Husky in case they start to play too rough.” Dev nodded.

SOMEHOW, SETH and Dev managed to keep it all low-key until Saturday. Dev had made another cake—a strawberry one this time—and they’d both gotten Leaf a present. That was probably why Leaf didn’t suspect anything when in the afternoon, Dev surfaced from the study.

“Seth? Do you still have that external hard drive I lent you?” he asked, coming to sit on the arm of the couch Leaf and Seth were lounging on.

“Yeah,” Seth said, then, as per script, he groaned. “Shit, actually, no. I think I left it at my office.”

Dev frowned. “Well, damn, I kind of need it. It had some files on it I don’t have anywhere else except at home on my other computer.”<

“I guess I can go get it if you need it. Shouldn’t take too long.” Seth started to get up, when Leaf grabbed his arm.

“Can you drive? I’d rather you not go alone. You were pretty wobbly earlier.”

“Right. Okay. Can you take me, Dev?”

“Sorry, I’ve a video call with my dad in ten minutes.” Technically it was early enough for Dev to be working still, and Leaf knew he often talked with someone through Skype.

This was actually going to work, because….

“I’ll take you,” Leaf said, getting to his feet. “Let’s go now and I’ll walk the dogs when we get back.”

  “Yeah, okay.”

When Leaf went to put on his shoes, Seth winked at Dev. So far, so good.

All the way to the college, Seth was excited as hell. His heart was racing a little, and he was pretty sure he was flushed.

Leaf glanced at him at one point and frowned. “You okay?”

“Yeah, maybe I’m coming down with something. Feel a bit off.”

  “I hope not.”

The parking lot was pretty empty when they got there. He knew some of his colleagues might work during the weekend, but most wouldn’t, and it seemed like nobody bothered others, because if someone had to be at their office on a Saturday, there was normally a good reason for it.

“I’ll come with you. Don’t want you to be alone in case you crash.”

Leaf followed him through the doors, which were unlocked because there were some workspaces for the students in the building as well and students rarely took weekends off.

They went to his office, and Seth unlocked the door and left it open. Then he sat behind his desk and rummaged around the drawers for the hard drive he didn’t even have.

Only minute or so later, there was a knock on the door, and Dev peeked in.

“What?” Leaf looked confused. “What are you doing here?”

“Well, I have it in good knowledge that there’s someone in here who’s a bit hot for the teacher. And since the teacher in question can’t help the birthday boy with this sort of thing….” Dev looked positively devilish.

Leaf looked so dumbfounded, Seth and Dev laughed. Dev went to Leaf and hugged him close, while Seth went to close the door. He pushed it hard without waiting for it to click, then went to Dev and Leaf.

“So, how do you want to do this, Leaf? It’s your call,” Seth said, leaning in to join the messy three-way kiss.

“I have an idea, actually,” Dev said when he came up for air. “I’m going to blow Leaf, while you play with his hole.”

Leaf groaned loudly, obviously turned on beyond belief, and Seth grinned. “I’m all for that plan.”

“So how about you lean against the desk here, Leaf,” Dev instructed, pointing to the side of Seth’s sturdy wooden desk. “I’ll kneel underneath and Seth can do his thing behind you.”

“Th-that sounds good to me,” Leaf managed to say, his jeans tenting obscenely.

Dev shook his head in amusement and went to kneel beside the desk. He leaned his back against the side of it, then pointedly looked at the others.

“I don’t think foreplay is needed here, and I don’t think we should stay for too long, so how about it, boys?” He grinned, then straightened enough to get to his pocket and tossed a tiny lube packet to Seth. “I thought you’d probably not have any here.”

Seth blushed. “No, I do not keep lube in my office.”

“That’s a shame. Maybe we’d visit you more if you did,” Dev teased, giving him a wink. “Now, chop-chop! Come here, mister.” He gestured at Leaf, who walked to him on shaky legs.

It was a bit weird for Leaf to be almost submissive in his shock and arousal. When Dev told him to place his hands on the desk above Dev’s head, Leaf did so without question.

Dev opened Leaf’s jeans and tugged them and his underwear down to his knees. The way Leaf’s cock hung heavy and hard made Seth’s mouth dry.

“Jesus, that’s hot,” he said, then went to take his spot behind Leaf.

It would’ve been great to just fuck into Leaf when he was lust addled like this, almost pliant in some ways, but this wasn’t about Seth—or Dev, for that matter.

Seth tore open the lube packet and put some on his fingers. He warmed it up before touching Leaf’s cleft.

Leaf’s big body quivered, and he let out a sinful, deep moan.

“Come on, you can fuck my mouth,” Dev said, sounding husky, and Seth could tell just by that tone alone that Dev was hard too.

The first slurping sound came from below, and Leaf shakily adjusted his stance. He had an almost glazed look in his eyes, like he couldn’t believe this was happening.

Seth slid his index finger inside Leaf and carefully rubbed his thumb on the muscle on the outside. Leaf groaned, hips twitching and head dropping forward. Seth had a feeling this would be quick.

Grinning, he twisted his finger and tapped Leaf’s prostate. The gagging sound from Dev when Leaf thrust forward made Seth chuckle. “Oops, sorry,” he told Dev.

“No, you’re not,” Dev answered, then went back to blowing Leaf.

Seth pushed another finger into Leaf, then dropped to his knees to mouth at his sac from behind. He made sure to use his free hand to touch Leaf’s thighs and sides, just to add more sensation and pure touch. Leaf was all about the sensual aspects, and even in this, Seth wanted to remember that.

Leaf grunted suddenly, the sound so familiar to Seth that he knew Leaf was about to come. He twisted his hand, then pressed firmly against Leaf’s gland and sucked one of his balls into his mouth.

Leaf let out a low, drawn-out moan and his hips stuttered as he came, slumping against the desk. Dev nursed his cock for a while, pressing his hands against Leaf’s knees to keep the man upright, and Seth carefully pulled out his fingers, kissing Leaf’s hip as he got to his feet.

“Now that’s a present to remember,” Dev said, chuckling as he pulled Leaf’s underwear up first.

Seth reached for a tissue from the box on the other side of his desk and was wiping his fingers when the door suddenly opened.

“Hey, Professor Kent, are you—oh holy fucking hell no!”

They all jerked almost violently, staring at Angel, who stood in the halfway-open doorway and looked from blissed-out Leaf to Seth to Dev, who was still on his knees.

  “Angel—”

“No. Fuck no! This is exactly what I thought would fucking happen,” Angel spat, sneering at them all. “I told you I’d be fine with it if something like this would never happen.”

Seth was frozen to the spot. Leaf was pulling up his pants, and Dev got up.

“Angel, can we talk about this?” he begged his brother, but Seth could see Angel’s expression.

“No. There’s nothing to talk about.” Angel turned his gaze to Seth. “And you, you promised me too. What the fuck were you thinking, Professor?” he snapped, the words like barbs. “You crossed a motherfucking line.” Angel turned on his heel and marched to the right.

The closest exit was on the left.

“He’s going to the administration,” Seth said weakly. “My boss’s car was in the lot when we came in.”

“Jesus…,” Dev hissed, and was about to go after Angel, but at Seth’s expression, Leaf grabbed Dev’s arm. “No. It won’t help anyone.”

Seth sat heavily in his chair. His boss, Professor Helena Mills, was nice woman. She’d been there for Seth from the beginning. Her no-nonsense attitude and fondness for rules made her probably the best boss Seth had ever had. He knew, though, that her liking of him was based on the fact that Seth was a rule-follower, someone easy to work with, an employee who did his job well, on time, and never caused trouble.

“Hey, Seth, you need to breathe for us, love,” Dev said suddenly, and Seth looked at him, feeling confused.

Then he realized he wasn’t breathing right. Panic attack.

“Come on, I’ll take you home. Professor Mills can come calling or email you,” Leaf stated firmly, th
en manhandled Seth out of the chair and the room, telling Dev to lock up.

Seth wondered if he’d lose his job. The job he loved, tired of it as he was. This had been his life for so long, he didn’t know anything else. What would they even accuse him of? Sexual misconduct? Something else?

“Hey, we’ll be at home soon,” Leaf said, squeezing his thigh.

Home? Yes, they were in the SUV.

Seth collected himself, trying to stay focused on the moment, and managed not to let his mind spin out of control. It was close, though, and by the time he sat on the couch at home and Dev had gone to let Grace out of the study, the dog stuck to him like a dog-shaped Siamese twin. Panic attack or just pure anxiety? He didn’t care. Instead, he concentrated on breathing with Grace.

Weasley came to the couch to examine the situation and walked promptly onto Seth’s lap, then up his chest until he could brush his cheek against Seth’s chin.

Seth chuckled. Emotional support cat in training?

“No, it’s not your fault, or mine, or Seth’s,” Dev said in the kitchen, loud enough to alert Seth. It sounded like a conversation that had been going on for a while.

“But it was my fantasy, Dev!” Leaf snapped.

“If you want to blame someone, blame my idiot brother. Or fuck, all of us, Leaf. If you want to lay blame, it has to be all of us.”

“Hey,” Seth called out loudly enough for them to hear. “Quit it.”

Dev and Leaf came into the living room, looking sheepish and somewhat distressed.

“She’s going to call me soon, I bet. I’m….” Resigned to whatever his boss would say? Yeah. “Dev is right in this,” he said finally, after both men had sat down, Dev next to him and Leaf on the edge of the coffee table in front of him.

“How so?” Leaf asked, sounding gruff.

“My idea, my office, my faulty door that should’ve been fixed months ago. Your fantasy and your birthday. Dev was my accomplice, and his brother doesn’t know how to knock, it seems. It’s… it is what it is, and I’ll bear the consequences of this idea. Whatever they are.”
