Like Breathing Page 23

“I was just telling Leaf how he’ll get to call all the shots. But first, let’s make sure he’s all squeaky clean for us, eh?” Seth winked at Dev, who grinned and moved so he was behind Leaf and away from the spray.

“Oh yeah, we can do that,” Dev purred and took Leaf’s favorite shampoo. “I’ll make sure his hair is clean, you can wash the rest of him.”

“You guys know that ‘he’ is here too?” Leaf chuckled, but it turned into a moan when Dev dug his fingertips into Leaf’s hair and massaged the shampoo in.

Seth took a washcloth and some shower gel and rubbed Leaf’s skin clean of the dirt and dust from the garage and cleaning. By the time they were done with Leaf, all of them were at least half hard and some heavy groping was going on all around.

“What do you want, love?” Dev asked, nipping at Leaf’s neck.

“I want to fuck Seth, while you fuck me,” Leaf said in a hoarse voice, as if the mere idea of such thing was making him lose his voice. “But first, you two wash each other. I want a show.”

“I think we can work with that,” Seth agreed.

Leaf got out of the shower and toweled himself unhurriedly, gaze fixed on them through the glass door. He left it a little bit ajar so the steamed-up portion wouldn’t obstruct his view, and leaned on the sink while running the terry cloth over his body.

“Come on, then, love.” Dev winked at Seth and handed him the shampoo. “You can do me first.”

Chuckling, Seth waited as Dev soaked his hair again, then stepped out of the spray so Seth could rub the shampoo into his hair.

Seth had long ago figured out that both of his men were like large cats. They thrived on touch and all but purred when someone played with their hair. Dev had recently gotten his hair cut shorter on the sides and back, and now sported something less messy that made him look, if possible, even hotter.

Maybe it was because of how thoroughly they’d washed Leaf, but once Seth ran the washcloth over Dev’s body, Leaf gave them further instructions.

“Make sure he’s squeaky clean everywhere, but don’t make him come,” Leaf said in a tone that made both Seth and Dev look at him.

Leaf stood with his legs apart, leisurely rubbing his cock with a loose fist.

Seth groaned, his own cock jerking in response to the sight.

He tried to wash Dev in a way that wouldn’t tease him too much, but with Leaf giving instructions from the sidelines, it wasn’t easy.

“Mercy, seriously, I’m gonna shoot if you two don’t stop that,” Dev begged after Leaf had made Seth wash his cock and balls for the third time, “just in case.”

“Okay, you can swap now,” Leaf said, smirking at them a little bit evilly.

Dev washing Seth’s hair made him realize that maybe he wasn’t too different from his lovers after all. Having his scalp scratched by Dev as he shampooed and rinsed his hair made Seth want to melt into a puddle.

“Turn around,” Dev told him and washed his back efficiently, then skipped his ass in favor of washing his legs and feet.

“Oh no, sweetheart, I think you missed a spot.” Leaf had moved closer to the glass and was now jerking himself off a bit faster, as if trying to make himself come but not quite there yet.

Dev slid the soapy washcloth between Seth’s asscheeks and rubbed, making Seth moan and widen his stance without doing it consciously.

“See, he likes when you touch him there. Now the front,” Leaf instructed.

Dev did as instructed, then played with Seth’s cock—washing it, yeah, right—for a while, until Leaf deemed them done.

“Now rinse, dry, and meet me in the bedroom.”

Turned on beyond belief, they did as they were told. When they got to the bedroom, Leaf was on the bed, with one hand awkwardly behind himself, obviously stretching his hole.

“What are you waiting for? I think someone should do this to Seth,” he said, voice husky with desire.

Seth climbed on the bed and kissed Leaf, while Dev grabbed the lube. Suddenly his cold lube-covered fingers touched Seth’s ass, and he let out a squeak.

“Sorry, sorry,” Dev murmured, then continued his quest to loosen up Seth’s hole.

They were all so fucking affected, hands shaky and words, whenever one of them spoke, stuttering. It took some serious effort to get them into position so they could do what Leaf wanted.

Seth sprawled on the bed on his back, with a pillow under his hips and Leaf settled between his thighs.

“All right, sweetheart?” Leaf husked, and Seth gave him a little bit dazed nod.

Jesus, he couldn’t remember being this turned on. Then again, it seemed to be something that happened naturally with Leaf and Dev nowadays. Every now and then, something they did just blew his mind with how much it turned him on.

Leaf pushed inside him, like so many times before, and let his body adjust to his girth for a while.

“Dev, lube yourself up,” Leaf said, then leisurely rocked his hips a few times. Then he pushed in as far as he could go and stayed still again. “Okay.”

Leaf looked over his shoulder, and Dev knee-walked closer to them. He couldn’t get the perfect angle until Leaf lowered himself a little by widening his stance. When Dev pushed inside Leaf, Seth watched with fascination. The play of emotions across both of his lovers’ features was something he would never get tired of seeing.

When Dev bottomed out, his hips jerked forward enough to send Leaf impossibly deeper into Seth, making them all groan.

“Well, this won’t last long,” Dev stated, grinning.

Seth could only lie there as Dev hugged Leaf from behind and took over the rhythm.

“Oh fuck,” Leaf moaned when Dev plucked at one of his nipples as he steadily fucked into Leaf, forcing him into his chosen pace.

Seth decided to just go with it, as there was very little for him to do. “Tell me when you’re close,” he ordered, then jerked himself off slowly.

When he got the signal from Leaf, he knew Dev wouldn’t be far either, so he made himself come first, triggering the chain reaction. It was so, so good. He was wiped out and relaxed, even with two half-conscious men on top of him.

After some wits-gathering, they managed to separate and clean up.

“Nap, then a movie?” Dev asked when they cuddled up despite the cooling sweat on their skin.

“Sounds good to me,” Leaf murmured in the middle.

“Mhmm,” Seth agreed, and drifted off to sleep.

THAT EVENING they did exactly as planned: lazed around the house, ordered in food, and once the pets were all settled for the night, made love again.

In the morning Seth woke up when the mattress bounced violently.

“Wh-what?” He struggled to open his eyes and look around.

“The boy is a little bit excited,” Leaf drawled from the doorway and stepped into the bedroom. “The rings came.”

Dev, sitting cross-legged in the middle of the bed, was tearing into a package, his eyes shining bright. He grinned widely and patted the end of the bed. “Leaf, sit. And you, sit up,” he commanded while finally getting the ring boxes out of the packaging.

They looked at the rings, then shuffled them around so everyone had the right box, and smiled dopily at one another.

“Okay, we’ll do this,” Leaf finally said. He took the boxes from Seth and Dev, and placed them on the bed between them with his own. Then he took Dev’s box and opened it, took the ring and gave it to Seth. Leaf took Dev’s right hand in his and held it, so Seth could put the ring on his finger.

They repeated it for Seth and Leaf, until everyone had their ring where it belonged.

“I love you so much,” Seth told them both, feeling the tears in his eyes.

  “I love you,” Dev agreed.

“You two are my everything. I love you,” Leaf added, and then they were in a weird three-way hug. If tears were shed, nobody mentioned it.

  Chapter Eighteen

LEAF GRASPED the edge of the small table in the RV, holdin
g on for his dear life as Seth pounded into him from behind. He’d have bruises on his hips from this, he was sure, but it seemed like something Seth needed, so Leaf didn’t mind.

He could take this kind of rough—hell, he could deal it too. Rough because of desperation, because of needing to be as close as possible for even just a moment, was different than the other kind of rough that was too much for him.

He was hard enough to ache, and he knew that once Seth was done with his ass, there would be another kind of ache there too. Driving through the late evening and night to Idaho seemed delightfully painful. He’d hold the reminder of Seth for as long as he could, though.

“I’m close,” Seth grunted, then pulled him up, holding on to him like Dev had the previous evening, and wrapped his hand around Leaf’s cock.

It took few pulls to bring him to the edge, and Seth froze a handful of thrusts later, shooting into the condom he’d insisted on wearing so Leaf wouldn’t need to clean up so much, after.

They breathed for a while, soaking in the closeness, knowing it would be a week or more before they saw each other again once Leaf started the RV.

Seth pulled out and helped him clean up the table, mostly because Leaf grumbled at him about having to eat on the thing.

“Will you go say bye to the boy?” Seth asked, his eyes already sad and vulnerable.

It hadn’t been like this before, but now, after he’d been home for so long and with Dev joining them, things were different.

“Yeah. Need to give the kids scratches too.”

  “Yeah, let’s go.”

They left the garage and went inside the house. Seth went into the kitchen to give Leaf and Dev some privacy to say goodbye, Leaf thought.

He went upstairs where Dev was working, or more like distracting himself from the fact that Leaf was leaving. All the kids were there, because Seth had wanted that last quickie and had left them with Dev so there wouldn’t be interruptions.

“Hey,” Leaf said when he opened the door.

All the dogs looked at him expectantly, and even Weasley perked up from his spot on the desk.

“Hi.” Dev turned his chair and looked at Leaf with the same expression Seth had downstairs.

“None of that, now.” Leaf went to him and stepped between Dev’s thighs.

Dev wrapped his arms around Leaf and pressed his face into his stomach. Leaf ran his fingers through Dev’s hair and sighed. He hated that he was doing this to them, despite knowing it was because of his job.

“Take care of Seth for me,” he murmured. “I’ll be back as soon as I can, okay? And… don’t tell Seth yet, but I’ve been thinking about changing some things, workwise. Just… I might not be going away again anytime soon.”

Dev looked up, chin propped against Leaf still. “Really?”

“Yeah. I already hate going. It’s never happened before. But I’ll go do this and come back for good, okay?”

  “Okay.”

Leaf leaned down and kissed Dev deeply, soaking in the taste of him. He finally pulled away when his back and lungs protested, and gave Dev a smile.

  “I love you, sweetheart.”

  “I love you too.”

He turned and looked at the dogs, who were staring at him. They all knew he was leaving for the road and were waiting to go with him. Except this time, they couldn’t all go.

Then he remembered Weasley. He went to the desk and petted the cat he’d become fond of. “You be good, Weasley. Be nice to Auntie Alex when you see her, and when you wake up, Grace will be here to snuggle with you until the hurty stuff is over, okay.”

Weasley purred at him and brushed his cheek against Leaf’s fingers.

“It should be routine, but call me anyway,” he told Dev, whose eyes brimmed with tears he tried to hide.

Leaf felt rotten. He didn’t know how to fix this other than coming back, so he looked at the dogs again. “Missy and Grace, stay. Husky, let’s go.”

HE DROVE west first, to Utah, and then north to get to Idaho. The bust was happening around the time he’d get to within the Idaho State limit, and his contact had promised to call to tell him where to come exactly.

There were several shelters, and he expected to go through every one that took some of the dogs from the puppy mill. At least the local trainer, Chay Quentin, had told him he could stay at her farm, where she had her own training center for abused dogs.

The call came when he was around an hour away from Pocatello.

“Hey, Chay,” he said, watching the road and trying to stay awake.

“Hey there. So, you should probably go to my place, sleep a few hours, and then go wherever we need you at that point.”

  “I could come straight—”

“No, you’re going to need your faculties, and you’ve driven all night, Leaf. Get some rest, then call me in the afternoon.” She sighed, and Leaf could feel her closing a door. “Look, it’s pretty bad. There’s about seventy or eighty dogs that I’ve seen. They’re mostly large breeds, a lot of shepherds and pit bulls, rottweilers and Dobermans.”

  “Shit….”

“That’s not all. By my estimate, and I’m being generous here, they’ll have to put down twenty or so of them anyway, just for health issues. I’d recommend same for about ten of them based on extreme aggression alone. They’ve trained killers here, Leaf. I don’t know what we’ll do.”

“How many of them are puppies?”

“I counted like four pups per litter that I saw, just on average, because I haven’t been able to really take a look. Five litters with small pups. Maybe twenty dogs that are weaned. Then young ones, and maybe another fifteen adults, not counting the mommas of the litters.”

  “Jesus, that’s a lot. A huge mess.”

“Yeah. I’ve called contacts in the surrounding states as well. Special rescue groups for these breeds too. By the time you’ve rested, I should’ve been able to narrow down the dogs I’ll take and which ones will stay local.”

“Okay. I’ll be at your place in an hour and I’ll take a few hours, but then I’ll call you.”

  “Okay, talk to you then.”

AFTER WAKING up, Leaf chose to stay at Chay’s large property, making sure everything was ready there, instead of driving to get to the location where they were still loading up dogs that were viable candidates for rehabilitation.

In the end, with all puppies counted, there had been eighty-six dogs total. Twenty-two had been put down on-site by emergency vets called in. Two had been shot by the FBI when they’d found the cellar hidden in a wooded area that the dogs had been guarding.

Leaf tried his best to let go of the hatred he felt for the people that had made life on Earth hell for these poor animals.

When Chay arrived in her “dog mobile,” an old delivery truck that had been converted to move around large numbers of dogs at the same time, she looked bone weary. She was the type of person who radiated alpha dog, despite being probably five feet tall, if that. Her hair was shorn close to her skull, and she wore combat boots and a flannel with jeans. No-nonsense kind of person. Leaf had met her a couple of times before in passing, but never like this.

“Hey, man,” she rasped, even her voice tired.

They hugged quickly, like sympathetic not-quite-friends might do, and Chay swayed on her feet when she let go of him.

“You need food and a nap. Show me what you have back there and where to put them.”

She shook her head as if to clear it and opened the back door. The cacophony of whimpers and barks that had been muted by the thick walls of the insulated, air-conditioned vehicle hit Leaf like a brick.

“So, what I have for you today is three of the adults. They’re all females, possibly pregnant but not showing yet. Timid, but not aggressive. Then there’s five of the young dogs, and they all seem pretty okay. They need feeding, deworming—all that good stuff—and then a week to figure themselves out. I don’t think any of these dogs are aggressive, but….”

  “But you never know. O
kay. I’ll test them with Husky. He’s good at putting kiddos in their place. Go eat.”

“Please tell me Husky is a husky?” she said as she jumped down from the back of the truck and peered up at him.

“Oh yeah. He’s a good boy. Do I put these dogs wherever?” It was pretty empty inside her kennels, so there was definitely space.

“Yeah, just keep them all in the back where they can be sort of quarantined for now. My regular vet will come tomorrow to check them more thoroughly.”

“Did the local shelters take any of the dogs?”

“Yeah, more adolescents, and one pittie rescue took a litter and their mom. All others went out of state.”

“Okay. You go rest now. I have this,” he said, patting her shoulder.

“Alrighty, then. Have fun.” She walked to the small ranch-style house and left him to move the dogs inside.

The young ones were three pit bulls and two rottweilers. They were adorable, enthusiastic puppies, and for now Leaf had high hopes for them. He settled them in kennels that had a connection to a joined run, so they could play together if Chay would agree to that.

The older females were a Doberman, a German shepherd, and a pit bull. They all looked like they’d been bred before, but weren’t that old—each of them looked less than three years of age. Once he got better acquainted with them, he could look at their teeth if the vet wouldn’t do that the next day.

He especially liked the German shepherd. She had long hair and was quite dark in color. She seemed cautious but friendly, and when he gave her a bowl of meat with deworming tablets hidden inside, she ate and wasn’t aggressive at all over her bowl.

The Doberman was clearly food aggressive, and that worried Leaf enough to write a red warning text in the whiteboard attached to the door of the kennel he put her in.

THE NEXT day, he and Chay worked with the puppies and Husky, letting him play with them in the large fenced yard behind the kennels.

“He’s great with them,” Chay said, as Husky tirelessly corrected wrong behavior from the young dogs.
