Undone- Resurrection of Murdock

Tak…
Adam unwittingly fell to his knees! ‘What’s happening?! Where’s this noise coming from?!’ he scrambled his thoughts as he willed his head to raise up and look around. The lynxes were seemingly unaffected, at least physically, by the loud rumble; however, they were uncontrollably trembling in fear.
“Status effect [Confuse] negated.”
“Status effect [Despair] negated.”
“Status effect [Fear] negated.”
The system quickly removed all the direct debuffs, but the quaking ground kept Adam kneeling. Having four sturdy legs gave the Jade Lynxes an advantage; they were able to stand still and even escape from whatever was roaring loudly. Adam could only stay low and watch all his prey slip away. Just then, a faint voice rang inside his head… ‘Something strange is happening here… You might want to look into this...’
It was Terrence.

Gemini Forest, the woodlands north of the frigid Cold Lake, east of Selar Region.
Roar! Bellowed a creature as it tried shaking off its assailants.
Fragments of dark rubble broke off the hide of the hideous beast as many Shadow Orcs pummeled it down the ground. The lesser spawns distracted the beast while the strong ones dealt the damage. The lone monster could only struggle in vain as it fought against the immortal armada. The beast—an Onyx Fiend—fell flat on the ground as its life-force feebled. From above, the Night-sky Serpent swooped down and dealt the final blow.
“Congratulations, you leveled up!” rang a notification. Umbra quickly checked it with intent.
“There’s still nothing?!” he spat in anger.
It had been a month since he came here—in this damned forest that not one common man has ever stepped upon and came out alive—and started hunting for high-leveled beasts to increase his level rapidly, but he had gained nothing of significance so far. No new skill, ability, or even a half-decent upgrade. The item drops were far inferior to what he had already, and even those that were of slight use to him were mediocre in quality.
“This is unreal…” the unimpressed shadow lord mumbled.
To rub salt into the wound, he even failed to call upon the shadow of the Onyx Fiend.
His three attempts went like dust in the wind. It was his twelfth failure since he started this hunt. Coincidentally, this Onyx Fiend was his thirteenth kill, which meant he was only able to call upon one measly shadow monster. “Shit!” Umbra stomped the ground in frustration.
“I’m just wasting my time here… No, perhaps leveling up was enough to change my fate?”
Umbra had one reason to venture this far off the Peregrine Continent, and that was to stop the prophecy from ever coming to fruition. He had thought that if only he could strengthen himself to the point where none could oppose his unparalleled might, then his fated doom would cease to exist. Umbra had anxiously checked upon his “fate” ever so often since he had Selidar under his control.
The visions had been quite vague; they were mostly a scene of a plain filled with nothing but tall grass. This could mean something, but the serene feel of it meant this was nothing Umbra had to concern himself with. Perhaps, it was merely a reflection of his current state. The only strange part of his visions was the sole piece of bone floating on the horizon. This obscure symbolism irked Umbra, as it reminded him of the strange undead.
Without a moment’s hesitation, Umbra summoned Selidar.
“I command you—shatter the realm of reality and peek at the time beyond what is.”
The grotesque Shadow Gremlin curtsied and summoned an oval-shaped mirror.
The mirror hovered towards Umbra and swallowed his vision fully.
...
Beads of cold sweat dripped down the forehead of Umbra as he gazed at the strange vision. An audible gulp resounded within the void as the trembling king swallowed hard. Gone was the calm green plains—In front of him, the castle of the Scarlet City, the capital of the Carmine Kingdom, laid bare. Atop the peak of its tallest structure, the same piece of bone floated.
Crack! A thundering noise resounded.
The bone split open, and from the fracture emerged an unusual entity—
A lone skeleton covered in blue flames.
The people around the castle seemed to be rejoicing with great glee upon its arrival.
