INFLUENCED: A Good Girl, Bad Boy Love Story Page 10

by Keyes, Janae

“Okay, I’ll get your things,” he instructed to me as he allowed me loose. I exited the car and went toward the doors with my keys as Spencer followed behind with my penguin and letters in his grasp.

The two of us entered the house and I disabled the alarm before I took Spencer’s hand and pulled him along with me. Up the stairs and down the hall towards my bedroom. I’d never had a guy in my bedroom before, not even Hampton was ever allowed inside.

I sat on the edge of my bed as Spencer sat my things on top of my dresser. He came to me and sat down next to me. I glanced up in his direction before he pulled me into his warm and strong embrace.

Laying on the bed, his body settled over mine as he kissed me strongly. Our mouths seemed to fit together. His tongue was, once more, fighting with mine as I gripped at him, bringing him down on me, holding him close. A feeling of eagerness filled me and I gasped at how strong it was. I wanted him badly, but not this way, tonight wasn’t the night.

“Everything okay?” Spencer asked as he peered down at me. I nodded, but he didn’t seem convinced as I began to tremble slightly. Fuck my nerves.

He pulled his body off mine and settled next to me before pulling me in close. Being snuggled into his strong chest felt absolutely perfect. Spencer planted a single supple kiss on my waiting lips before peering into my eyes.

“I’d never do anything you wouldn’t want me to,” he told me firmly. I knew his words were true. I nodded before I leaned in and pecked his lips, I’d formed an addiction to them.

“I’m a little nervous. You learned at the club that I’m a virgin, I’ve never done any of this. Well, I’ve never willingly been this deep,” I confessed.

“Willingly? What does that mean?” He pulled himself up and his look of lust turned into concern in a flash.

“Nothing, I don’t want to talk about it.” I looked away from him, embarrassed at my slip. “I… I… I want to take this slow. I’m afraid of your consequences and right now, as much as I know what I want, I need time to think.”

“You can have all the time you need, Peaches. I’m going to be here, no matter what,” he said as he pulled me in tight. I pressed my head into his chest, feeling him place a kiss on the top of my curls before exhaustion hit me and began to usher me towards sleep. I ached to fight it, to be awake in this moment I’d craved for so long, laying in Spencer’s arms.

“Hey you, stop fighting it, sleep,” Spencer demanded huskily.

“No,” I protested as I tilted my head up towards his.

“We have work in the morning,” Spencer reminded me. I let out a groan of frustration. I didn’t want to work, I wanted to spend my entire day with Spencer, cuddled in my bed having no responsibilities on my shoulders.

“And I’m going to teach that dance class with Joe, I start tomorrow. I’m going to have to leave early. I hope I can sneak it past my mom,” I told him. Spencer shifted and sat up, pulling me with him. A huge smile was plastered on his handsome face.

“That’s amazing, Peaches. I’m happy for you, doing what you love.”

  “Thanks.”

“Now, go to sleep. I should head out before your parents get home. I’ll make sure your car is waiting here for you in the morning,” he told me as he allowed me to lay back down. He left me alone in my bed. I moaned in defeat, wanting him back with me. “Don’t moan like that or I won’t be able to restrain myself.” His eyes were laced with pure lust.

“What does that mean?” I asked playfully, biting my lip.

“You know exactly that that means, Peaches. Now, you get some sleep. I’ll make you mine another day. ,I promise you, and when it happens, you’ll moan until you can’t anymore.” Heat flushed through my system with his words.

  “Okay,” I breathed out. “Goodnight.”

Spencer pulled my blankets over my body and tucked me in tight. He planted a single kiss on my forehead.

“Goodnight, see you in the morning,” he whispered, his lips brushing against my skin before he gave me a single peck on my lips. Turning away, he left me completely alone. I listened to his footsteps as they faded into the distance. Closing my eyes, I finally allowed sleep to take me as Spencer had requested.

  Spencer

“Come in,” my mother called from other side of her closed office door. Thank fuck she was here at the office today. I was twitchy and needed someone to talk to about Megan.

“Oh, Spencer, it’s you. What a pleasant surprise,” she said, standing when I walked over to her and deposited a kiss onto her cheek. “I’m only here for a half day to help out with some of the new interns. What can I do for you, my dear?”

God, I loved my mother. She was such a bright star, always cheery and pleasant, and the perfect person to be around. Heather had a way of making everyone feel at ease, and truth be told, she was hilarious as well. Countless times growing up, I could remember Chase and I rolling around on the floor because of mom’s jokes. She was the life of the party and the glue that held our family together.

“Well, mom, I need to talk to you about something,” I replied. “There’s someone....”

“Someone? Like a girl, someone?” She asked, cutting me off.

I couldn’t stop the wide smile that came to my face at her expression. She looked animated, full of life, her eyes glowing at my admission.

“Yes, mom.” I rolled my eyes at her and laughed. “A girl.”

In an overly dramatic way, she put down her pen, put her elbows on her desk and sat her chin on top of her knuckles. “Tell me all about her.”

“Well,” I laughed nervously. “She’s beautiful, and smart, and she’s got a good head on her shoulders. She makes me laugh, and fuck, I don’t know, she’s just, off the damn charts, mom,” I finished, running my fingers through my hair, a nervous tick I had recently picked up.

“So? What’s the problem? Why did you need to talk to your dear old mom?” She said, batting her long fake eyelashes.

“Her family, well, let’s just say her family would never approve,” I said sheepishly.

“Son, no offense to this young girl’s parents, but that’s a load of horseshit.”

My jaw fell to the floor. Heather rarely swore.

“Spencer, you’re a good boy. A little childish sometimes, but you also have a good head on your shoulders, you’re dedicated, funny, and you have a good job. If those people can’t see that, then they are as blind as a damn bat,” she finished, slumping back in her seat in the most graceful of ways.

“I love you, mom,” I said

“You bet your sweet ass you do, Spencer. Now when do I get to meet this girl?”

Without answering, I got up from my seat, tipped my head at my mom, and headed towards the door.

“I’m serious, Spencer,” she called out after me. “I want to meet this girl!”

Shutting the door on her final words, I made my way back down the hallway towards my office.

Once I turned the corner, something solid came in contact with me, making me stumble backward and reach my hand out for support. Luckily I didn’t fall, but the smell that assaulted my nose almost caused me to trip again.

  Megan.

“Oh my God, Spencer, I’m so sorry,” she said, her hands on my chest where they had landed after her almost fall from our collision. “I wasn’t paying attention, I didn’t even see--”

“Peaches, stop talking,” I whispered back, grabbing her hand and pulling her into an unoccupied conference room.

“Spencer, what are you doing?” She asked.

“Something I’ve wanted to do since I left you last night.”

Taking the back of her neck in my hands, I descended on her like the greedy selfish man that I was. It had been almost twelve hours since our last kiss, and I was starved for her juicy plumps lips to be molded to mine. I didn’t hold anything back as I ravaged her mouth. My other hand went around her waist and pressed her body into my solid, suit clad chest. She was hesitant at first, being so close to her parents and being at
work, but the moment our bodies collided together, she lost her own inhibitions and joined in on the fun.

I couldn’t get enough of this woman, the way her curves fit into me perfectly, the way her mouth always tasted of something sweet, the way her kisses put me into a stupor. How I had ever seen her as just a little kid, I’ll never know, but she was slowly unravelling me, bit by bit. I wanted so much more than to be her first and to make her mine. I wanted to lavish her with gifts, take her on trips. I wanted her unequivocally.

“You’re so fucking beautiful,” I said, biting at her bottom lip.

Her only response was a moan that accompanied her body’s shudder.

“I’m done thinking, Spencer. I want you, only you,” she mumbled against my lips. “Please, make me yours.”

“Please, make me yours, Spencer, I love you so much.”

Chloe’s voice rang out in my head, dousing me in a bucket of cold water. In a flash, I was ten feet away from Megan.

“Spencer?” Megan’s voice quivered, the hurt shining brightly in her eyes. “Who is Chloe?”

“How the fuck do you know that name, Megan?” I asked, surprised, and angry.

The hurt in Megan’s eyes was gone, replaced with anger.

“Oh, let’s see, how about right after I just asked you to take my virginity, you said her fucking name,” Megan hissed, making me recoil.

“Fuck, Peaches. I’m sorry,” I said, taking a step closer. “Let me try to explain.”

Holding her hand up, she halted my progress.

“Don’t fucking bother, Spencer,” she seethed. “Once a playboy, always a playboy” were the last words I heard before she walked to the closed door and opened it, the light shining into the darkened room.

“Well, well, well, don’t you two look cozy,” Stacy said, right outside the threshold of the now opened door. “No wonder Miss High and Mighty here gets all the special treatment. You sleeping your way to the top, Megan?” her vindictive voice snarled.

“Talk to her again that way, and I’ll have you fired,” I threatened, unbridled rage laced in every word. Megan could be mad at me all she wanted, it didn’t mean I wouldn’t protect her from this pompous bitch in front of us.

“I can take care of myself, Spencer,” Megan snapped, her eyes shooting daggers into me, before turning back to the bitchy blonde.

“Stacy, it isn’t what it looks like. Spencer and I were just chatting. Can you please keep this between us?” Megan pleaded.

“Sure,” she shrugged. “But you owe me one.”

  “Anything.” Megan said.

“Peaches, don’t make any kind of deal with her,” I tried arguing.

“It isn’t any of your concern, Spencer. Why don’t you go find Chloe, since you’re obviously still hung up on her. Stacy, name your price.”

“You know what Megan, I’m not sure. Let’s just call this an I.O.U,” her smugness shining through as she walked away.

“That was a bad idea, Megan. That girl is bad news.”

“You know what, Spencer? I think this was a bad idea,” she spat at me, motioning between us. “Just leave me alone.”

Before I knew it, the door was shut harshly in my face, leaving me in the dark office by myself, wondering, what the hell had just happened.

  * * *

By Friday, there was still no communication between Megan and I. Yes, we worked together, and yes, we had to speak to some degree, but every word out of her lips, no matter what I said, was work related. I had tried everything in my power to get her to talk to me. I sent flowers to her home the day after her first dancing class with a note saying to call me. Those same flowers ended up in my work trash can the next day.

I brought her a hot dog from the truck we had been to on her first day, only to have her toss it on top of the wilting roses. I had texted and called so many times I was starting to feel helpless. She never responded, and she never answered my calls, sending me straight to voicemail. Throughout work, she was professional, but yesterday, when I saw her at a popular department store, and tried talking to her, she had snubbed me.

“Megan, please talk to me, let me explain,” I said, chasing her through the store.

“Peaches, please,” I begged, as she dropped her intended purchases on a nearby rack and walked out the front door.

I had picked up her choices and paid for them myself, having them sent directly to her house. When I had come in this morning, I had expected to see them in the trash, or at least in my office, but thankfully, walking in, I had found nothing there. Unfortunately, there was also no Megan.

“Jeannie Mae, have you seen Miss Reese?” I asked, poking my head out.

“She didn’t come in today,” the intern shrugged.

  “Why?”

“How should I know?” She responded, walking away quickly before I could give her the Spanish Inquisition.

Shutting the door and walking back over to my desk, I grabbed my cell phone.

Peaches, why aren’t you at work?

I didn’t expect a response, so when my phone pinged a few minutes later, I was shocked, and quick to read it.

I’m sorry for not calling you, Mr. Grant. I’ll be taking a personal day today.

A personal day? That wasn’t like Megan at all. Was she ok? Opting against texting back, I punched in her number and waited for it to ring. When she actually answered, it took me a moment to find my tongue.

“Spencer, I said I was sorry for not calling you. Why can’t you just leave me be?”

“I can’t, Peaches. I can’t leave you alone, I’m not even going to try. Now, what’s wrong? Why aren’t you here? You don’t sound sick.”

“I can’t do this with you anymore, Spencer. I can’t keep pouring my heart out for a man who is thinking about someone else,” she whimpered.

“I’m not thinking about anyone but you, Peaches,” I whispered back.

“Then tell me who Chloe is?”

“Can we do this in person, please? I don’t want to talk about it over the phone.”

  Silence.

  More Silence.

  “Peaches?”

  “Alright. When? And where?”

“Right now. I’ll meet you at your house, since your parents are here.”

  “Ok,” she responded.

“Are you okay?” I asked again.

“Yeah. I’ll see you soon, ok?”

  Then, the line went dead.

Shutting down my computer, I walked to my dad’s office and let him know I was taking off for the day. His look told me he wasn’t exactly thrilled with it, but he didn’t say anything or tell me no. On my way out, I looked through the occupied conference room window to find both Mr and Mrs. Reese speaking with clients. It wouldn’t look good if somehow either of them showed up while I was talking with Megan.

Thirty minutes later, I pulled into her drive and headed around back. Lucinda was at the door waiting for me.

“Good Afternoon, Mijo. She is in her room and waiting for you,” she said, taking my car keys.

“Thanks, Lucinda,” I responded, dropping a kiss to the older woman’s cheek before making my way up to Megan’s room. I knew this house like the back of my hand so, taking two steps at a time, I raced up the stairs to get to Megan and try to sort out the shitty mess I had made. Hopefully, Megan would forgive me after I explained why I left Europe, and why Chloe’s name had fallen from my lips.

If she didn’t forgive me? It looked like I’d be adding Georgia to my list of places I couldn’t never set foot into again, and that idea made my gut clench as I pushed open Megan’s slightly jarred door, to find my beautiful Peaches napping on her chaise lounge.

  Chapter Ten

  Megan

I heard his voice in my head, Spencer. The last few days had been a roller coaster. He’d won me over, I was his completely. I yearned for him so deeply it physically hurt. After our time together, which I would assume could be classified as a date, I needed more. He hadn’t just made me smile harder
than I had in a long time, but he also took such good care of me when my anxiety took the wheel.

For the first time, I let my anxiety go. I wanted to give myself to him in a way I’d never given myself to anyone. I’d been in love with Spencer since I was a teenager, it was long overdue between us and now, I knew he wanted me just as bad. There was nothing as special as giving myself to the man I loved.

The only problem was, the moment I confessed it, he murmured the name of another girl. Megan was not the name on his lips, but Chloe. In an instant, my heart was broken. I wasn’t thinking about anyone else but him and I would conclude it to be the same with him. I was wrong.

There was his voice in my head, calling my name, lulling me into his spell. I sighed at the sound of my name on his lips.

“Peaches,” his voice whispered. “Wake up, Megan.”

His warm skin, his hands on my body. I’d had this dream many times, but as I heard my name more and felt his touch, I realized it wasn’t a dream.

My eyes fluttered open to the sight of his gorgeous face in front of mine. His smile making my heart skip beats as it had done since puberty.

“Spencer,” I yawned, throwing my hands over my mouth. “What are you doing here?”

“You said I could come over, remember?” he questioned as I sat up. Instantly, I remembered, he’d called me and I allowed him to come over as he wanted to explain himself. I didn’t know what there was to explain, I apparently wasn’t the only girl on his mind.

I nodded at his question. “You’re here to explain yourself, I suppose,” I assumed, as I stared him down. He was so handsome, it was ridiculous; it made me weak.

That was one reason I needed the personal day. I was mad at him, but no matter my anger, there was a weakness for all things Spencer Grant.

“Yeah, you asked who Chloe was,” he began. I simply nodded. “Chloe was a girl I dated while in Europe. She’s the reason I left.” He’d intrigued me. I’d heard that he got into some sort of trouble, but a girl, that wasn’t what I expected.
