ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
First of all, many thanks to Julie Czerneda and Jana Pannicia for asking me to contribute a story to their anthology, Under Cover of Darkness, way back in 2005. Their invite helped crystallize a lot of research I had been doing into Victorian London and faerie lore, and Rise of the Darklings grew from that original short story.
Also, a huge shout-out to the amazing team over at Egmont USA. Alison, Mary, Greg, and Robert have been immensely helpful and supportive since I joined the Egmont family. But extra thanks have to go to Elizabeth Law, Regina Griffin, Ruth Katcher, and Nico Medina. Ruth and Nico, for editing and copyediting, and helping to mold the story into something a lot stronger than it originally was, and Regina and Elizabeth, whose confidence in the book has been an inspiration from the very beginning.
And finally, mucho thanks to my amazing agent, Ginger Clark, for somehow knowing when to show sympathy for my many writerly paranoias, and when to tell me to shut the hell up and get back to writing.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Paul Crilley was born in Scotland and moved to South Africa when he was eight years old. He was rather disappointed to find out that Africa was not at all like the Tarzan movies he watched on Sunday afternoons and that he would not, in fact, have elephants and lions strolling through his backyard. He now lives in a small village on the east coast with his family, six cats, and one dog. When he is not writing, he can be found chasing away the monkeys that like to steal food from his kitchen. You can visit him online at www.paulcrilley.com.
