Seduction in a Suit: An Office Romance Collection Page 63

by Monica Corwin

“Order some takeout, maybe watch a movie while doing a little work,” it was a quiet Friday night. I only wanted to lock myself in with Evan and cuddle until we had to come up for air.

“As long as you don’t get into any trouble with Colin on duty,” Evan joked with a wink.

“Never any trouble. I’m a good girl.”

Evan laughed as he stood and began to dress. “In my book, you’re a very bad girl. Maybe you’ll need a spanking when I get back.”

“Hmmm, maybe.” I winked before turning over and wiggling my bare behind.

“Definitely.” Evan smacked my ass making me squeal. “More of that when I get back.” He finished dressing and as always, he was a picture of seduction.

“See you later?” I already knew the answer.

“You know it sweetie-cakes,” he gushed, his adorable nickname for me. He bent and gave me a final, fleeting kiss. I sighed as I watched him leave my bedroom.

I allowed the paint on my toenails to dry while I sipped a glass of red wine. Just as I suspected, my evening was quiet and relaxing while I waited for Evan to finish his niece’s recital and come back to me.

A smile came to my face as I thought about Evan. My thoughts were interrupted by my cell. I jumped out of my chair in hopes it would be Evan calling to tell me he was on the way back. Instead, it was Jessie, who I was just as happy to talk to.

“Hey, Jess!” I happily answered her call.

“Kait! Oh my god, you know that guy I’ve been talking to on Tinder?” she asked me excitedly.

“Yeah, the DJ,” I knew exactly which guy she was talking about. They’d been talking for weeks, and Jessie was hella excited about the prospect of a new man.

“He is spinning at that new club, eXtasy, tonight and invited me. I’m heading down there now, but I don’t want to be alone. Please come out with me.” A little dancing sounded nice, but I also wanted to wait in for Evan. “Don’t leave me hanging. Please.”

I laughed and rolled my eyes at the begging of my best friend.

“Okay. Let me get dressed. I’ll be there in like forty-five minutes.

“Thank you! I love you so much bestie. See you soon.”

Having already taken a long, hot bath, I went straight into my walk-in to find something to wear. I hadn’t been clubbing in so long. I didn’t even know what the club style was like anymore. I eventually settled on a thigh-length, dark silver sequin sheath dress with a pair of black Christian Louboutin pumps. I pulled my hair from its bun and allowed the waves to fall over my shoulders. I kept my makeup simple with lots of black eyeliner, mascara, and cherry red lipstick.

I took a clutch from my collection, got my ID, some cash, and my phone, before jogging downstairs and kicking on the door to my spare bedroom.

“Yep!” Colin called before he swung the door open. He looked me over from head to toe. “I take it we’re going out?”

  “Yes. Club eXtasy, please.”

“A club?” he questioned and I nodded. He picked up a binder and started flipping through the pages. “We don’t have that club on our cleared places. It’s my opinion that going there wouldn’t be in your best interest.”

Colin was going to be difficult, but it was to be expected with a boss like Evan, who was a stickler for the rules. I put my hands on my hips. I watched his Adam’s apple bounce as he swallowed hard at the sight of me asserting my power.

“Colin, my best friend is already there. It’s not like I’m going alone, and you’ll be there. I’m ready now, let’s go.”

“Let me grab a couple agents and we’ll go. I also need to call the boss,” he asserted as he attempted to get back a bit of the power I’d snatched from him. I knew it was for the best, but I didn’t think a couple drinks and a dance at the club would be such a hassle.

It was roughly ten minutes before I was finally in the back of the SUV, and riding toward the nightclub. Jessie had already arrived and gotten my name on the list. Colin drove while trying to get ahold of Evan.

We arrived at the club and the music was bumping loudly from inside. Colin let me out and another agent took the car while Colin trailed behind me. We approached the bouncer who looked me over. The tall, buff guy licked his lips as he checked me out.

“Looking for a good night sexy?” he asked.

“You know it. I’m on the list, Kaitlyn Marshall,” I peered inside and tried to find Jessie in the crowd. “He’s with me,” I nodded back to Colin.

“I’ve only got you on the list,” the bouncer pointed to the list and then to me.

Colin whipped out his badge. “United States Secret Service, if she goes I go with.”

“Alright, here’s your bracelet.” The bouncer secured an orange band around my wrist and nodded me inside, with Colin not far behind me.

I started through the mounds of sweaty people, as I’d finally spotted Jessie in the DJ booth with her latest fling. I peered behind me, but I’d lost Colin. He’d eventually find me. Instead of worrying about Colin, I waved over to Jessie, who spotted me.

As I approached the booth I could feel my cell phone vibrating in my purse. I pulled it out; Evan was calling.

“I’ll be back!” I shouted to Jessie over the pounding music. “Evan.” I pointed to my phone and Jessie nodded before I turned around and retraced my steps. I answered the call.

  “Yeah!” I shouted.

“Where are...you!” I could barely hear Evan.

“One sec. Going outside!” I finally squeezed out of the crowd and made it to the door where the bouncer eyed me. “Phone call, I’ve got to step out.” He nodded and let me out into the cold air.

  “Kaitlyn!” Evan was shouting.

“Ev, I’m here. You don’t need to shout,” I toddled along the brick wall of the club.

“Where are you? I got a call from Colin about some club. What are you doing there, and where are you exactly?” Evan was worried. I rolled my eyes because I would be fine. He and Colin were overreacting.

“I’m at Club eXtasy. Jessie invited me to hang out. It’s not going to be long. Are you on the way back to my place?” I leaned against the corner of the wall where the club ended and the alley began.

“I’m only a block or so from that club. Let me come,” Evan insisted.

  “Evan it’s not that seri–”

My sentence ended in a scream as I was grabbed forcefully from behind. I tried to fight the hands that were grabbing me, but I was defenseless. There was obviously more than one person dragging me into the alley. My phone fell from my hand.

“Evan! Help!” I screamed as loud as I could before I was shoved into the back of what I could tell was a darkened van. I tried to claw at whomever was taking me, but my hands were grabbed forcefully and yanked behind my back. I whimpered in pain as I heard the engine of the van start.

  13

  Evan

My foot slammed on the gas. Something was definitely wrong. I’d heard Kaitlyn’s cries for help. My heart pounded as I sped in the direction of the club. Gripping the steering wheel, I was anxious for what I would find, but as I pulled up to the club all seemed normal.

There were not too many people outside, and the booming music could be heard. Nothing was out of place until a van shot out of the alleyway and began speeding up the road. Kaitlyn was in that van. My instincts told me to follow it and I was in pursuit.

“Control, this is Agent Stewards. I am in pursuit of a dark grey van. Virginia license plate: Oscar, Lima, India, eight, one, four. Vehicle is traveling north on Sixth street toward Rhode Island Avenue. The president’s daughter has been kidnapped, and is in the van.”

I weaved through cars to catch up with my police lights and sirens on. Though my concern was Kaitlyn, I had to think about others as I continued the high-speed chase through the streets of DC.

“Fuck!” I grunted as I barely swiped a bus going through a red light. “Suspect has turned left on Rhode Island. Heading west toward the river.”

My tires squealed loudly as I
made a harsh left on the slick road. I heard other sirens join mine and in my rearview mirror I spotted multiple Capitol City Police Cars joining my chase.

The pieces of shit in the van wouldn’t make it out of the city. I only wished I knew Kaitlyn’s condition. She was strong, but I knew she was scared.

“I’m coming Kait,” I said aloud as I took another sharp turn. They weren’t getting away from me. My foot was practically glued to the floor as I pressed down hard on the gas.

The pitter patter of the rain began to hit my windshield. Another shower was on its way. Normally, I loved a good spring rain shower, but now wasn’t the time.

“Dammit!” I’d side swiped a car. One of the officers behind me would have to take care of them.

Another sharp turn for the van, but this one didn’t go as planned. The van was visibly hydroplaning, the wheels had lost grip with the wet street. I watched in slow motion as the van flipped twice before slamming through the front windows of a Starbucks.

I slammed my breaks and came to a screeching hault. My weapon was in my hand as I jumped from the SUV. The other cars in pursuit all did the same.

My training kicked in right away. I slowly approached the vehicle. I could see the driver was completely incapacitated, but there was a good chance there were more in the back.

“This is the secret service, exit the vehicle with your hands in the air and palms out!” My gun was pointed straight the van’s door. I was ready to take out anyone that posed a threat.

A moment passed before the door was wrenched open. A foot came out first and I gasped as the long dark brown sugar legs emerged. A bloodied Kaitlyn came into sight with her hands up. I wanted to rush to her and hold her tight, but I knew the protocol.

I motioned for her to come toward me, slowly. The pain and fear reflected in her eyes was frightening.

All at once, gunshots rang out from the van. Kaitlyn flung herself to the ground and I took my shot. Shot after shot rang out from my weapon before there was complete silence, except for the quiet whimpers of Kaitlyn, who laid face down on the soaked pavement.

I forgot everything I knew, all the rules, and rushed to her. I pulled her into my arms and held her tight. I wanted to find a way to absorb her pain and fear.

“I’ve got you, Baby. You’re with me. It’s okay,” I whispered into her hair as she sobbed against my chest.

Officers rushed to the van. Someone threw a blanket over me and Kaitlyn. I wasn’t going to move. I was going to hold her close and not let her go.

“It’s okay now. Nobody is going to hurt you,” I promised her. And that would be my promise forever and always, not just for the day. “I love you.”

“We’re live at the scene where a van crashed into the windows of this Starbucks Coffee Shop. That van was the vehicle used in the kidnapping of the president’s oldest daughter, Kaitlyn Marshall.” A reporter spilled as she stood in a raincoat in front of the Starbucks.

“President’s oldest daughter and Communications Director to Maryland Senator, Trish Villetti!” Kaitlyn shouted at the TV in the corner of the small hospital room she’d been confined to for the time being. “They never get my title right. I’m more than the president’s daughter,” she spat.

I laughed. Only Kaitlyn would fuss about her title after the night she’d had. I pulled her close and kissed her forehead. My girl was something else.

She glanced up at me and grinned.

“I love you,” she whispered before she kissed me gently. Her face was still just as beautiful covered in cuts and bandages.

“I love you too, my sweetie cakes,” I murmured against her plump lips, before I pulled her closer and kissed her passionately.

A throat cleared, causing Kaitlyn and I to pull apart. President Marshall stood in the doorway with a wide grin on her face. It was obvious she’d been woken and brought to the hospital. Her hair was pulled back in a bun and she wore minimal makeup.

I stood from the bed. I was sans jacket and my white shirt was covered in stains from Kaitlyn’s blood. No matter what I looked like, I stood proudly in the presence of the president.

  “Madame President,” I addressed her.

“Hello, Agent Stewards. I want to thank you for your brave service. You’ve gone above and beyond when it comes to the care and safety of my daughter. I appreciate you, and as her mother, I thank you, from the bottom of my heart.”

I knew she’d been briefed on the men that had kidnapped Kaitlyn. They were an offshoot of a religious terrorist group. Of the four men, three of them had died in the crash and subsequent shootout. One of them would be facing multiple charges, and he would never see the light of day again.

“It is my pleasure Madame President,” I noted proudly. I was proud to do my job and I was also proud to have my girl safe and sound. “I would at this time, however, like to offer my resignation. My time as an agent was insightful, exciting, and more than I could ever want. Though now, I want something more, and I can’t have it if I’m in my job.” I turned to Kaitlyn and gave her a smile. Her hand was over her mouth as she watched me.

“Evan,” she whispered. “You don’t have to do that for me.”

“I do,” I turned back to her mother.

“No, you don’t,” President Marshall declared. “If you are in my detail, you are absolutely welcome to date my daughter. I would be more than proud to have a capable agent like you in charge of my safety. If you will retract your resignation, I will get you moved to my detail, effective immediately.”

  I nodded. “Yes, ma’am. I retract.”

“Good.” President Marshall smiled before she looked behind me and to Kaitlyn. “He’s a good one, Kait.” She gave Kaitlyn a wink.

Kaitlyn grinned and I stepped to her side. I pulled her close and kissed her forehead. Damn, the night had taken a turn, and it was the best turn of my life. A step up in my career, and I got to keep my girl. Maybe breaking some codes of conduct weren’t too bad.
