Contributor JonLee Joseph taught English at Salalah College of Technology in Salalah, Oman, for five years. While there, JonLee spent time visiting the rural homes of her students and their families. She even bought two camels of her own, which she could visit and care for. She encouraged her students to share stories they had heard from their families. On overnight trips to a desert camp on the edge of the Rub Al-Khali, she collected stories from Mahbrook Massan, a sheik of Shifr.
