  "Damn you!"

  She jerked open the door of her Honda. Harry said, "We're going to have to work on that following thing. How to do it, how to know it's being done to you without tipping off the follower. You got a lot to learn, Wilder."

  She got in, slammed the door, and sat looking straight ahead. Damn them all! Her anger made her head start to throb. A lot to learn! Oh, did she?

  She started the car, backed out a little too fast, and took off, nearly skidding as she turned onto the main road. After a mile, she slowed down some. She was still angry, but was beginning to think as well as feel.

  All right, so she had a lot to learn. So what? And Harry would teach her and that's what she wanted, wasn't it? Well, wasn't it?

  She saw the VW in the rearview mirror, slowed and pulled over to the side. Harry stopped just beside her. She shifted her glance toward his car, saw him sitting there, looking at her, grinning. Damn him. She rolled down her window as he did the same.

  Harry said, "But all in all, you did pretty well."

  She didn't smile, absolutely refused. She just said, "You're not thinking of retiring from teaching, are you?
