“They will have to earn that right,” Mick said. “I’m in the process now of giving my son Teddy a shot, but I do not think he is ready yet.”
“Then why are you giving him a shot?” Trevor asked.
“To prove to him that he’s not ready yet.”
Trevor smiled. Mick the Tick. Always a step ahead.
“But I think you have what it takes,” Mick said.
“If you don’t step aside?”
“You’ll be my number three.”
“Behind Teddy?”
“Yes.”
“Third on the totem pole? I already have a business. It’s called Reese Marketing.”
“So do I. It’s called Sinatra Industries. A Fortune 500 company.”
“My company isn’t bad either,” Trevor said with a smile.
“It’s an okay company,” Mick responded.
Trevor smiled. “Carly told me you had no tact. She wasn’t kidding.” Mick didn’t respond to that. “Why should I give up my company to work for you?”
“Nobody said you had to give up your company. I haven’t given up mine.”
“But I’m government. You said you don’t trust government.”
“I don’t,” Mick said. “But I trust you. And your connections to certain entitites in government can be a big plus.”
Trevor smiled. There it is, he thought.
Mick saw that Carly was heading for their table. “Think about it,” he said to Trevor, “and keep it between us until you make a decision. I know how much you love to share with your lady. Don’t share this,” he added and rose to his feet. “Carly,” he said. Trevor, surprised that she had arrived, stood up too.
“I’m engaged, Uncle Mick!” Carly excitedly showed her finger that sported her beautiful ring as she ran into her uncle’s arms. And she looked back at her beloved and smiled a smile the angels would envy, and Trevor Reese couldn’t help but adore.
