Broken (The Onyx Wolves Book 2)

“Then you’ll understand when I say that I do want this I just need time.” Emmett replies. “Don’t get me wrong I do enjoy what we do have between us. I wouldn’t give that up for anything, it makes the days just a little bit easier.”
I laugh lightly. “You have no idea how good it is to hear you say that. I enjoy what we have too. That bliss washes away all of my grief.”
He nods and then smiles mischievously. “Since we’ve gotten to know each other a bit are you willing to let me enjoy that skirt you’re wearing?”
I laugh before I’m suddenly pulled across the jeep to straddle his lap.
It takes only a single heated look between us before he pulls my lips to his and explores my tongue with his.
And it only takes me a moment more to get lost in him.
I was lost in the moment and the feeling of joy that washes over me.
All thoughts leave my mind as that first soft moan leaves my lips.
“We need to get back home before someone really misses us.” I sigh as I stretch out beside Emmett of the soft grass in the clearing.
“I doubt anyone is even giving us a second thought. If they were wouldn’t they be talking to you up there?” Emmett asks as he points towards his head.
I sigh and turn my face to look at him. “I guess you’re right.”
He chuckles as he pushes himself up on his elbow to look down on me. “I’m always right. The sooner you realize that the better.”
I laugh and then pull him down to kiss me.
My mind easily wonders to thoughts of Blue and I sigh happily.
Every time I had kissed, touched, or slept with Emmett he had been the only one on my mind, he had been the only one I had wanted to be with.
Suddenly my phone beeps with an incoming message.
Before I can even read it Emmett snatches it from my hand.
He reads it and then lets out an angry growl as he shoves the phone into my face for me to read the message.
I don’t get the chance to actually read it before he jumps on top of me and pins my hands above my head.
“Is that him, was that the beta wolf?” He snarls.
“I don’t know, Emmett, you didn’t give me a chance to look at the message.” I growl out with my own anger building.
I couldn’t believe we were right back in this position.
Did he really feel threatened by Blue?
I guess he did have good reason to be when that’s who I always wanted to be with.
Holding my phone in front of my face again Emmett gives me time to read the message.
Blue: I can’t get you off of my mind.
It was short and simple but had a much deeper meaning.
I just hoped that Emmett wouldn’t get that.
“He’s just a friend.” I argue.
“He’s more than that and you know it. You can’t lie to me, Parker. I can see it in your eyes that you’re lying to me.” Emmett argues back.
“Fine, he’s more than that.” I clip out. “He’s my mate’s brother. He looks just like him and I can’t help but feel for him because of that very reason.”
It was a half truth and a half lie.
It was a good excuse to use without Emmett pinpointing what was really going on between us.
All of Emmett’s anger dissolves from his eyes as he gazes down at me. “I’m sorry, Parker, but you know you have to end whatever this is. You can’t string him along like that for your own selfish needs.”
“I know.” I reply softly as I close my eyes.
“Do you want me to help you?” He then questions.
I open my eyes again and shake my head. “I’m the one who made this mess so I should be the one to end it.”
He nods and then breaks out into a mischievous grin as he studies my body beneath him.
Once again I find myself at Emmett’s mercy.
I was a slave to the pure bliss that he brought me.
18-Tattle Tale
“Where were you all day?” Harley asks quietly as I sit down next to her for dinner.
Glancing across the table I watch as Emmett smirks knowingly.
“I’ll talk to you about it later, okay.” I reply shortly.
She nods. “You better.”
“I will.” I promise as I take her hand under the table and shake her pinky finger with mine.
She grins and bumps her shoulder against mine.
My father joins us and the room goes quiet as he raises his hand into the air. “I have some very important news to tell everyone.”
He glances around the table for a moment before his eyes stop on me. “We will be joined by the Redwood Pack in two weeks time. Titus will be bringing along his son for his initiation into alpha status. I expect you all to pass along our teachings to him.”
My heart picks up speed as I’m overcome with joy.
This was happening so fast, Blue was obviously working hard.
“Once Titus’s son becomes and alpha he will be joining Emmett and Ford in courting Parker to become her new mate.” My father ends.
Before he sits down he pins me with a look. “I will talk to you after dinner in my office, Parker.”
I nod and bow my head.
I already knew what he was going to talk to me about. I was going to be in big trouble for skipping school.
Dad sits down and everyone around the table begins passing around plates of food.
“You’re in big trouble.” Dillon teases in my mind.
“Shut it.” I reply in his mind while trying to hide my smile.
Everyone goes silent as they eat their food.
All too soon I finish and my father does moments after.
“Parker, let’s go to my office while the others finish eating.” He grunts as he stands to his feet and then leaves the table.
Glancing at Damon, Dillon, and Harley I sigh and then stand to my own feet to follow after my father.
Once I reach his office I walk in and shut the door behind me.
Inside I slowly make my way over to the chair before sitting down with a loud huff.
“I hope you got some vital information from your little excursion today.” My father states abruptly. “You reek of that alpha by the way.”
I groan. “I did get a lot of information from him actually.”
“I hope you know what you’re doing with that alpha, Parker. If you still want a chance to be with Blue you’re going to have to stop what you’re doing.” My father sighs roughly.
I nod and bow my head. “I know, Dad. I’m planning on breaking things off with him the second Blue comes back.”
“You should do it sooner.” He suggests.
I roll my eyes to him and he sighs roughly while pinching the bridge of his nose.
“Do what you wish, Parker. I can no longer dictate what you do, just remember that your choices will have consequences.” He warns.
After a moment of awkward silence he speaks again. “Now, tell me this information that you’ve gathered.”
“Well, for starters Emmett told me that there are only around twenty members left alive in his pack. He said that the Hunters killed all of the others.” I begin.
Dad nods his head and motions for me to continue on.
“He also told me that they are not living where the Draco Pack would normally be. They are in hiding for now. From what he told me it isn’t somewhere that’s pleasant.” I add.
“What else did he tell you?” Dad pushes for more information.
“Emmett is the last alpha in his pack. That’s the reason he’s here, I guess he’s their last hope to continuing their pack bloodline.” I reply.
Standing to his feet my father begins to pace back and forth. “This is good. At least we know that the Draco Pack doesn’t have enough members to form an attack against any of the other packs.”
“Is there anything else you want me to try and find out from him?” I ask.
Dad stops pacing and sighs. “Just see if you can get an
y more information on where they’re hiding. If we know where they are then we can prepare ourselves just in case.”
I nod and stand to my feet. “I’ll do what I can.”
“Just be careful, Parker. Don’t do anything reckless, and end things between you and him before it gets complicated.” My father replies.
I nod once and then turn to leave the office.
I pause at the door for a moment before walking out.
With my head bowed I walk down the hallway with my mind flooding with thoughts of Emmett, Gage, and Blue.
I didn’t know what I was going to do.
Ending things with Emmett now just didn’t feel right.
He was the only thing right now that had been keeping me from completely falling apart.
With him I didn’t feel the sadness of Gage’s death, and he filled that void that I had been feeling from wanting Blue.
He kept me from feeling lonely.
Emmett made everything better and that’s why giving him up was going to be difficult.
Absently I move into my room and begin stripping out of my clothes. I needed to take a long shower to help me get my thoughts in order.
At least that’s what I was hoping for.
Without warning Emmett’s arms circle around me from behind as his warm breath fans over my neck. “I was wondering when your dad was going to let you go. Did you get into a lot of trouble for our little stunt?”
“I didn’t get in trouble.” I reply as I turn in his arms and stop his wondering hands. “I need a little time to myself right now though, okay.”
His jaw ticks with anger as he takes a step back.
“What changed, what did your father say to you?” He questions with a snarl.
“He didn’t say anything and nothing has changed, Emmett. I just need a little time to myself where I can think. I need a moment where we aren’t together in bed.” I explain quickly.
I had to push him away now otherwise I would end up in bed with him again.
He was my one weakness.
“Fine, if that’s what you want then I’ll leave. Just remember when you need me again I might not be available for you to use.” Emmett growls before storming out of my room.
The door slams so hard that the photos on the wall rattle.
I let out a huff of breath before going into the bathroom to take my shower.
As the water cascades over my body I close my eyes and allow my mind to stray to a time when things weren’t so complicated, a time where I was just me and I wasn’t pressed to choose someone to spend the rest of my life with.
I missed that naive girl I use to be.
The water soon runs cold and I’m forced to get out of the shower.
I wrap a towel around myself and go out into my room where I am immediately thrown down to the floor by a hard body.
“I’m not letting you get away that easily.” Emmett growls into my ear as he yanks my towel away from my body.
“I wasn’t trying to get away from you Emmett. I just needed some time to think.” I bite out.
“What exactly do you need to think about?” Emmett pushes as he rolls me over to look down at me.
“I just needed to find myself again.” I whisper softly.
“The person you knew is gone, Parker. You’ll never get her back no matter how much time you take.” Emmett replies truthfully.
It was a hard truth but a truth none the less.
I would never get that part of me back that I wanted.
“I know that but I still need time to myself.” I sigh softly.
He nods. “I’ll give you time to yourself but I will be in your bed every night.”
“Fine, I can live with that.” I smile softly and then pull his face towards mine for a tender kiss.
Moments later Emmett jumps up to his feet before holding out his hand for me.
I take his hand and he pulls me into his arms.
My eyes gaze into his as his hand cups my cheek. “I can easily see myself falling in love with you, Parker.” He pauses for a moment as his eyes search mine. “I’m nearly already there to be honest. You’re all I think about. You’re all I want. Forgive me for being scared to lose you.”
“Am I really everything you want, Emmett? Do you really want this broken shell of a person?” I question him.
“I’ll take whatever I can get, Babe.” He nods.
He leans in for one more kiss before stepping back. “I’ll give you your space today but I’ll be back in bed with you tonight, okay.”
I nod and he turns to leave the room.
He pauses with the door open as he glances back at me. “Just yell if you need me and I’ll come running. I won’t be far away.”
I nod again and he leaves, shutting the door behind him.
Sighing softly, I turn and then groan before rummaging through my drawers to find something to wear.
Opting for something comfortable I slip on a pair of light grey yoga pants and a deep red tank top.
No sooner do I fall back on my bed with a huff a knock on my door breaks the silence.
“Come in.” I call out.
The door opens and in walks Harley with a look.
It was a look I knew all too well.
She wanted me to spill everything.
She shuts the door before putting her hand on her hip and pointing towards me with the other. “I’m not leaving this room until you tell me everything that’s going on between you and Emmett.”
I groan and turn my head to look up at my ceiling. “Where do I even start?”
“You can start by telling me what’s happening to you. It’s like you’ve become a whole different person since Gage died.” Harley replies gently.
“Honestly, Harley, I’m a mess. I’ve gotten myself into a hole so deep even I don’t know how I’ll get out of it. I continue to dig it deeper just so I don’t have to deal with the pain.” I confess as I sit up.
“Is that why you’ve been sleeping with Emmett?” She asks.
I nod. “It is, but I do kind of like him. He’s intense at times but he can be sweet.”
“But what about Blue, what are you going to do when he returns?” Harley then questions.
That was the question of the hour.
What was I going to do?
Could I really get away from Emmett without an epic fight between him and Blue? Probably not, but I would try.
“I don’t know what I’m going to do, Harley.” I sigh. “I don’t know how to break things off with Emmett considering he thinks there’s something between us.”
“You need to end it now. You need to tell him that you want Blue.” Harley stresses.
“I wish it was that easy. Emmett is the only thing that has been keeping me above the water. When I’m with him I don’t think about not having London here, or Rowan, or even Gage. With him I feel happy, at least for a moment. I don’t know if I can just give that up right now.” I answer.
“You’re going to have to try to deal with those issues without him, Parker. It won’t be easy but I’ll be here for you and so will Damon and Dillon. We’re a family, Parker.” Harley replies.
I shake my head. “I’m not sure if I’m strong enough.”
Harley moves closer and takes my hands in hers. “You are the strongest person I know, Parker. If there is anyone who can make it through all the heartbreak you’ve endured it would be you. You can make it through this but not without help.”
I nod and remain silent choosing to speak through our minds. “There are other reasons I’m staying close with Emmett. My father needs information on his pack.”
“That’s really dangerous game to be playing, Parker.” She replies worried.
“I know, but I’m the only one who can get the information my father needs.” I sigh.
“I don’t like this, for the record.” Harley sighs roughly out loud.
“You don’t have to like it, just have my back when I need you.” I reply.
She no
ds and then sits down on my bed next to me.
Dillon suddenly walks into the room unannounced. “Parker, you need to call Blue. He’s driving me crazy calling my phone.”
“Why hasn’t he just called mine?” I ask as I look around for my phone.
“He said he’s tried but you never responded. He’s worried that something has happened to you.” Dillon replies.
Standing up I search high and low for my phone but turn up nothing.
I growl out in frustration as I realize who had had my phone last.
Marching over to my door I open it. “Emmett, get your ass up here now.” I yell and then shut my door.
It only takes him a few minutes to come in with a questioning look. “You called?”
“Where’s my phone?” I clip out as I move to stand in front of him.
He bows his head and sighs for a moment before reaching back into his back pocket and then holding my phone out in front of me.
I snatch it from his hand. “This is not winning you any points, Emmett. Keep this up and you’ll be sleeping on the floor tonight.”
Leaning in close he cups my chin in his hand. “I’ll make it up to you tonight.”
Stepping back he gives me a quick wink before leaving the room once again.
Dillon steps forward with a raised brow. “What was that all about?”
“He’s been hiding my phone because he doesn’t like me talking to Blue. I think he’s afraid of me getting to close to anyone else that may threaten his hold on me.” I answer honestly.
“Watch your back, that sounds like it could take a turn in the blink of an eye.” Dillon warns.
I already knew how quickly Emmett’s emotions changed.
It was like dancing on a fine thread.
“I can handle him, Dillon. We’ve already been at each other’s throats about it but he won’t hurt me. He cares too much about me to hurt me.” I reply confidently.
“That can be just as dangerous. If he cares that much then he might be capable of doing anything in order to keep you if he feels threatened that he might lose you.” Dillon replies.
I nod my head, I hadn’t thought of that.
“I’ll be careful.” I promise him.
He nods his head once before leaving my room again.
