Just What the Doctor Ordered Page 25

by Leigh Greenwood

  Matt choked on his chicken.

“Stop it,” Liz hissed under her breath, on the verge of laughter.

“I’m willing to start immediately,” Matt managed to say between coughing and laughing, “but your mother is dragging her feet.”

  “Mama, couldn’t you—?”

Liz punched Matt, but he only laughed harder. Liz looked around. There was no hope of avoiding the circle of curious gazes or listening ears. She had wanted an attentive community. Well, she had one.

“I promise I’ll think about it real soon. But if there’s any justice in this world, Matt will be the one to get pregnant.”

  Matt laughed harder.

  “With triplets,” Liz added.

“How do you get a pregnant?” Rebecca asked Matt.

Attracted by the laughter, Ben had come running back. “If Matt gets one, can I have one, too?” he asked.

Matt collapsed on the ground. Liz snatched up his plate to keep him from rolling over on it.

She looked at her husband, helpless with laughter, at the grinning faces all around her and at her two wonderful children. Life had a lot to make up to both her and Matt, but it had made an awfully good start.
