  “You’re really going to say that to me?!” Jason screamed, his anger not staying in his grasp now.

  “What do you mean?” Aiyana asked, her eyes widening.

  “I saw you talking to your boyfriend.” Jason said. “Or whoever the Hell he was.”

  “My boyfriend?!” Aiyana asked, giving him a look that made him feel stupid.

  “Yeah…” Jason said, quite unsure now.

  “He was not my boyfriend. If you had cared to listen I would tell you who he was and why he had come to meet me.” Aiyana said.

  “I, I’m sorry.” Jason said, foolishly.

  “Your sorry doesn’t fix things.” Aiyana said. “I wanna leave.”

  “Aiyana, please.” Jason begged, wanting to slap himself silly for the assumptions he had made.

  “That was Joshua. He is the Alpha of my pack.” Aiyana said, angrily. “He had come all this way to tell me to come home instead of staying here with you for whatever reason I had.”

  “What, what reason did you give? And what, what pack?” Jason asked, nothing making sense to him.

  “The reason is, I love you. I have imprinted on you.” Aiyana said as Jason gasped.

  “Imprint? I don’t understand.” Jason said, nothing making sense except that Aiyana loved him.

  “I’m a werewolf, Jason.” Aiyana said, taking a step back from him.

  Jason had to control the scream that threatened to escape from his mouth as he saw Aiyana shift into a wolf, the same wolf he had ran his car into the night he had met her. Had all his doubts been right? Was Jason really not crazy after all?

  He didn’t know whether to run or to stay, for the wolf in front of him with black and brown fur sat down submissively like a friendly creature. Jason felt drawn to it. He moved to place his hand on its head, her head.

  “I, I love you, too.” Jason said, letting out a soft laugh.

  “This feels surreal.” Jason said, not believing what was happening.

  “Is this real?” Jason asked as Aiyana nodded her massive wolf head.

  They heard wolves howling in the distance as Aiyana stood up, alert all of a sudden. She looked into the forest, back at Jason and then back at the forest, her indecision clear in her eyes even in her wolf form.

  “Go.” Jason said, not wanting to hold her back from her duties.

  She didn’t move.

  “I’ll be here. I’ll be waiting.” Jason reassured.

  Aiyana nudged her head into his shoulder blade before turning to face the woods. Jason moved aside as she ran into the forest, to carry out her work with her pack. There was a lot they had to discuss and a lot Jason still had to learn. She would come back. For now, she was the running wolf, on way back home, to fulfil the tasks she had been born to fulfil.
