Finally, at the reception, Jasper tapped his glass lightly to get everyone’s attention. “I’d like to propose a toast to the happy couple. Mac, we have been friends, well all three of us, from around ten years old. There has never been a bond closer than what me, you, and Haile share. Now Nina joins the fold, and we could not be happier for you. We are honored to call you our brother, and with our wives we wish you both all the blessings and happiness there is to offer in this world. Welcome home, brother, and congratulations. To Mr. and Mrs. Black!”
“You still owe me tires,” Haile announced.
The crowd took up the cheer in the midst of laughter, and Mac leaned over to kiss her gently. When the hints of music for the first dance started, he led her to the middle of the room and pulled her gently into his arms.
“Did I mention how handsome you look tonight?” Nina asked, looking up at him.
“Show me later,” he murmured against her ear and caused a shiver to run through her.
“Why, Mr. Black, what about your injuries?” Nina asked innocently.
Mac grinned wickedly. “Mrs. Black, we have abstained until our wedding. Now we are married, and I’ll go to the hospital after if I have to.”
“That will be the way to do it, get married and you end up in the hospital with people saying I shagged you until I broke something,” Nina teased. “We should at least shower off the glaze.”
Mac burst out laughing, and it carried across the room while he pulled her closer. “You are such a pervert.”
“Says you,” Nina laid her head against his chest. “I love you.”
“And I you, my heart is forever yours, wife,” Mac answered with a chuckle. “Perverted mind and all.”
“Ah, you appreciate my dirty mind,” she teased.
Other guests began to dance, but nothing or no one around them mattered because she was in the arms of the man who was the perfect fit, the puzzle piece to match hers. She didn’t expect to find love in Northumberland, but now that she had it, there was no way she was letting it go. To Nina it only made her life better to be known as the bride of Mackenzie Black.
