I looked up and saw my father walking towards us holding a leash with a puppy black and grey schnauzer with a red ribbon lightly tied around his neck.
“Dad, what are you doing here,” I asked in shock.
“Well Javier called me the other week and asked for permission to ask you to marry him, and asked if I would like to come down for the proposal.”
“Okay, but what does that have to do with getting married here?”
“Well you are correct that we can’t get married here in Texas, but we can get married in another state and it will be recognized. So our new furbaby here, which we have to come up with a name for,” Javier added taking an envelope that had been attached to the ribbon that was tied around the schnauzer. “California does not have any residency requirements when it comes to issuing marriage licenses so thanks to our Travis we have a trip to San Francisco whenever we’re ready, and then we can come back here and have a ceremony to celebrate with the family.
“Babe, that’s amazing, but when will we have time, we have to still find a place in only two weeks.”
“Well, Mr. Fuentes and I thought about that and we have an early wedding present for the two of y’all,” my dad said reaching into his back khaki pocket and pulled out another envelope.
Javier and I opened it together, “They bought us a house,” I said surprised.
“Mr. Miles, mom and dad, this is amazing,” Javier said just as surprised as I.
“Remember its dad, and you both are welcome. We wanted you to be able to start your lives together without stress and maybe one day you’ll be able to do the same for your children.”
Javier and I both took turns hugging our new in-laws and parents.
“So now the only thing to decide is when you go make it official,” Maria said.
“Well now we have to find a babysitter for our new little baby.” I said petting our new puppy. I loved him immediately and already hated the fact of being away from him.
“We’ll watch him,” Mari and Travis said walking up to us with Trevor in tow.
“Yeah, Uncle Danny, I’ll watch him. He can sleep in my room,” Trevor informed.
“Well how’s next week,” I said looking at Javier.
“I don’t think I can wait that long to make you my husband, how about tomorrow?”
“I can’t wait for tomorrow so I can be a Fuentes.”
“And I’ll be a Miles,” Javier said kissing me.
“Ladies and gentlemen, may I present the soon to be named in holy matrimony Mr. Javier and Daniel Fuentes-Miles.” Mr. Fuentes announced and the crowd yelling out congratulations and clapping.
It definitely turned out to be one of the most emotional days of my life and happiest…well until tomorrow when I would be marrying my best friend.
The End.
