An Unconventional Lady Page 16

by Cynthia Hickey

“I can’t imagine you wearing anything else on our wedding day.”

Her hands trembled as he took them in his. His gaze locked with hers through her veil while McMurray officiated. Being the only pastor in town now, he had graciously congratulated Dallas and Annie and agreed to unite them in marriage. Now, he read from his Bible in his slight Irish brogue.

Dallas heard none of it, so engrossed was he in the fact that the beautiful woman in front of him was becoming his wife.

  “Mr. Baker?”

Dallas turned to McMurray. “Excuse me?”

The crowd tittered, many of them Annie’s friends from the hotel.

“I asked you to repeat after me.” McMurray chuckled. “Are you ready, Mr. Baker?”

Dallas nodded and complied. When Annie said, “I do,” his tears swelled again. He blinked them away, wanting nothing to detract from his vision of her face.

“You may now kiss your bride.”

It wasn’t their first kiss, but kissing Annie as her husband was the sweetest thing he’d ever experienced. His heart soared across the canyon as his lips met hers.

Thank You, God, for opening my eyes and giving me such a gift!

He closed his eyes and dipped her over his arm.
