“This is my room,” she whispered hoarsely, unable to say more.
“I know. Get some rest.” Dominick said before bending his head down, gently placing a kiss on her lips.
Her lips were soft and sweet. He bit the side of her lower lip lovingly before pulling her into his arms. He knew she could feel his erection throbbing between the two of them. She felt good in his arms, as he remembered the moment he rescued her. He fought hard to control his libido and hoped she didn’t think him a cad for wanting to rip the clothes of her back.
“I’ll see you before you leave?”
“Not sure.”
“Please be careful. Here take this for luck, it’s my sapphire. I wished I had it with me when I was kidnapped.”
“You sound as if you care,” his smile was weak and unsure.
“More than you’ll ever know.”
“Really, that sounds a little… Well…”
Before he could finish Alivia kissed him and without hesitation she began to unbutton his shirt. The thoughts of something happening to Dominick scared her, not as much as not knowing what it feels like to lay in his arms, to have him inside of her. She would swear on a stack of bibles if needed that he would be the last man to make love to her, for she was his for now and forever more.
Alivia rained kisses along his wide hairy chest, inhaling the clean, crisp smell of his herbal soap. She knew without a shadow of a doubt she was destined to be with Dominick, Nick, no Dom. Yes, Dom, strong and powerful.
When Dom stepped away, Alivia thought he was going to open the door for them, instead he widened the distance between them.
“Please don’t take this the wrong way, I need every drop of strength and more tonight. I promise to make this up to you. I promise. And I will cherish this good luck charm as I cherish you.”
“I understand. And just so you know I will keep you to your promise,” she whispered, but in actuality she was disappointed. Alivia gave Dom a quick peck on the lips before leaving him standing outside her door. She needed a shower, a drink, a vibrator.
Silver could tell by Maverick’s knitted brows that something was wrong. She noticed the side glances he made at the goblet that was placed on the center table.
“How about a hot shower.” She asked as she shimmed out of her clothes.
“I’m good. You should take that shower and relax it’s been a long day, love.”
“Just as long for you. What’s wrong?”
“I’m good.” He replied again.
“That’s the second I’m good and no comment about me standing here almost nude. Tell me what’s wrong, please.”
“Just have a lot on my mind. I’m going to my spell room.”
Silver saw Maverick pick up the tarot cards that were behind the lamp, then put them back.
“You want me to read for you.”
“No, go take your shower, I’ll be fine.”
“Men, always stubborn and difficult.”
“Women, always worrying and difficult.” He smiled and kissed her forehead before disappearing behind the panel wall.
Silver took a hot shower; the water was relaxing. When she stepped from the shower, she called out to Maverick but didn’t get a response. Wrapping a large fluffy towel around her damp body she entered the spell room and witnessed him in a deep trance. Not wanting to disturb him she backed out the room. Silver grabbed some herbs she’d left on the table and began to cast a protection spell around Maverick.
“You know that’s not necessary.” He shouted from the other room.
“I know but it makes me feel better, and get out of my head,” she shouted back. She felt more at ease when she heard Maverick laughing. When he entered the bedroom, he kissed her again on the forehead, she tried to make it more intimate, but she sensed sex wasn’t on his mind.
“I want you to put the goblet somewhere safe. Where you and only you can retrieve it if necessary.”
“Why not put it in the picture, like you did the first one?”
“Because it’s protected, no one except me can access the picture.”
“So that’s even better. It’s protected either way.”
“Plans go awry Silver, so in case this one does you and your family will be in danger, your only bargaining chip is the goblet. If something happens to me and the cup is in the painting… Well you get the message.”
“See, little shit like that makes me think something bad is going to happen to you.” Silver stated.
“Everything is going to be fine.”
“Let me read the cards.” Silver insisted.
“Woman!” Maverick could see the look in Silver’s eyes and knew she wasn’t about to back down.
“Okay love, after the reading I’m going to need a nap. Tonight, isn’t going to be a cake walk.”
Silver didn’t reply she quickly snatched up the tarot cards, shuffled them and sitting on the edge of the bed placed the deck in between her and Maverick, so he could cut the deck, before laying them across the bed. She inhaled deeply and asked, “What number?”
“Thirteen.” He replied.
“Thirteen? You want me to deal thirteen cards. You don’t have a lucky number you like.”
“Yes love, thirteen.”
“Thirteen it is.”
“Are you good at this?”
“The only ones I can’t think of that’s better than I are my mom and Aunt Grace.”
Silver turned the first card over, the death card, it would be the death card she thought, but keeping herself void of emotion for the reading, she simply said, “The death card. A major event is coming and will arrive suddenly. You could lose something valuable. If not careful it could be destruction for you.”
Maverick nodded his head, encouraging her to continue. Silver reluctantly flipped the next card over, “Three of swords,” she inhaled deeply before adding, “pain, separation and possible mental anguish is in your future.”
“I have that now waiting for the next eleven cards.” Maverick laughed.
“Six of cups, past associations will become present. Apologies or unlocking skeletons in your closet will happen.” Silver tilted her head and said, “I don’t know if this has anything to do with tonight or not.”
“It’s impossible to know. Go on, I’m getting tired.” Maverick stated, but his mind was clicking, digesting all that was being said.
“The moon, which means something is not what it seems, maybe a delusion or confusion.”
“Cy has created this from day one, so I think this has more to do with him and tonight than anything else.”
Silver with a flick of the wrist slammed another card down, “Finally!” she shouted and smiled as she stretched her long legs out.
“The magician, skillful, talented, self-confident and successful. This is you.”
“Look at the card love, it’s upside down. This could very will mean Cy.”
Silver hadn’t thought of that, she was happy seeing the magician she lost her control. Closing her eyes she chanted to herself centering her yen. She slowly turned the card over, revealing the card of strength. “This is definitely you, vitality and energy and power.” She smiled. Maverick nodded his head as he focused on the deck of cards.
“Shit, the devil, this is upside down so we’re looking at anger, violence. You will need to find inner courage to change the trap waiting for you or fear will succumb you.” Quickly turning the next card over hoping to receive a good omen she sighed, “The towers, shows unexpected turns, possibly something disastrous.”
“That was eight my number is seven, a lucky number. Why not stop here so you can get some rest?”
“Because my number is thirteen and that’s the number we dealt.”
“Fine, let’s get this over and done with.” Silver didn’t want to continue, she didn’t like some cards dealt and was afraid what the rest of the deck held. “The star represents renewal and hope is your destiny. The world is your number ten it means reward, it can be the end to the old and a
good beginning to the new.
“Good only three more, come on love lets have it.”
“The page of cups, finally good news, it represents good news.” She placed the next card over it, Six of wands, success, triumph and the removal of any oppositions.”
“And the last one?”
“Eight of pentacles, it shows new skills or acquiring new skills.”
“Sounds promising. Now I need sleep. I’ll sleep next door.”
Before Silver could respond, he was gone. She’d never seen him so melancholy. She didn’t know what to say or what to do. One thing was certain, it would be a cold day in hell before she let Maverick go without her.
Silver hadn’t planned on falling asleep, so when Alivia woke her up she was a little incoherent.
“Girl get up they’re leaving in less than an hour,” Alivia shouted.
“Shit,” she looked over at the open door to Mavericks spell room. “I didn’t hear him leave.”
“Well their downstairs now going over everything. I don’t know about you, but I’m not staying here twiddling my thumbs waiting to find out what happened.” Alivia said as she threw Silver a top from the closet.
“I’m with you my sister, but they will never agree, so I think this should be a hush-hush mission.” Silver added.
“What about Aunt Grace?” Alivia inquired, not sure if they will be able to sneak past their aunt.
“Knowing the new and improved Aunt Grace, she will be right by our side.” Silver smiled.
The moment they entered the room the men stopped talking and turned. They all appeared to be somber. Axel was there whispering in Jonathan’s ear about something that had Jonathan nodding his head vigorously.
“Where’s Aunt Grace?” Silver asked as she placed a small kiss on her godfather’s cheek.
“In the dining room eating. She didn’t want to wake you. But I think it was more about her fear of getting lost in this place.” The smile on his face didn’t match his eyes, which told Silver, he was all about business. He was keeping an eye on JJ who was having a hard time sitting still in his chair. She greeted the others before standing beside Maverick.
“So, when do you leave.” Silver asked, lacing her fingers through Maverick’s.
“Now. I want you to hold down the fort. If you need anything, just call on Mrs. New.” Maverick squinted his eyes at Silver and asked, “why are you chanting ‘be safe’?”
“Because I want you to be safe,” she replied quietly. She hoped he didn’t sense her chant was just a ploy to prevent him from reading her mind. The last thing she needed was a debate on why she should stay or how dangerous things could get if she goes. Silver gave Maverick a long seductive kiss. “Come back to me.”
“I will love. You behave until I return.”
Silver turned not wanting to give anything away, plus she needed to fill Aunt Grace in, so she’d be ready.
“Good evening dear, I swear I’m a bundle of nerves.”
“Good evening Auntie. I know the feeling, I took a nap but now I’m back where I started. Alivia and I plan on following the group, there’s no way we can sit her while their lives may be in danger.”
“I thought about that too. Oh, my, Axel will be mad as hell, but not as upset as I’ll be if something happened to him, and I was stuck here watching television.”
“Great! It’s settled.”
“Oh, the goblet.” Silver snapped her fingers bringing the silver and amethyst cup to her.
“Do you think it wise to carry that cup with you?” Grace asked as she ran her finger over the rim of the goblet.
“You’re right, how about this?” Silver downsized the goblet and attached it to her charm bracelet, then produced a replica.
“You clever little minx.” Grace laughed, before giving her eldest niece a big hug.
“Silver, we’re leaving.” Shouted Maverick through the intercom.
“Come let’s go.” Silver lead the way into the hall where the men were gathered. She could tell they all were ready to do battle. They appeared fearless in their quest. Silver took note of the kiss between Alivia and Dominick. The kiss and lingering looks revealed a plethora of feelings between the two. Silver was happy her sister finally found love, with a man who could harness her sister’s wild streak.
The moment the men left Silver removed her necklace. “I’ll track Maverick this way we’ll only be a few minutes behind them.”
“Oh, for goodness sake Silver, track?” Alivia asked.
“Yes, I don’t have a clue where they are headed, and this is the easiest way.” Silver replied.
“Well I know where they are meeting Cy, so you can put your necklace back on.”
“What do you mean you know, how the hell do you know?” Silver inquired, while resting her hands on her shapely hips.
“Meaning I know where the meeting place is,” she rolled her eyes. “I asked Dom and he answered.”
“I don’t think Maverick would approve that information being giving out so carelessly.” Silver continued to stare Alivia down.
“Well Sil, Maverick isn’t here and unless you want to tell him, he won’t know anything about it.”
“So, I’m supposed to lie for you?”
“No sis, lie for yourself, tell him how clever you were in tracking him down, like a bloodhound.”
“Okay girls, that’s enough. My nerves are about to jump out my skin, the last thing I need or want is this immature cat fight between the two of you.” Grace inhaled deeply before adding, “You both act like children, God knows if anything were to happen to either one of you, you’d tear the city down for revenge. So show the love, for a change.”
“I’m sorry.” Silver apologized to her aunt and Alivia. Alivia in return waved a hand and rolled her eyes dismissing the whole thing.
“Should we bring that redhead?” Grace asked.
Both Silver and Alivia shouted in unison, “No!”
“The last thing we need is that untrustworthy bitch in the way!” Alivia exclaimed.
CHAPTER ELEVEN
The moment Maverick entered the large abandoned building he sensed danger. It took a minute for their eyes to adjust to the dark room. The smell of mold and mildew mingled with the smell of rotting flesh filled the air. Maverick clapped his hands together producing light as well as a loud noise in the quiet warehouse.
“Keep your eyes and ears open gentlemen, I think we might be walking into a trap.” Maverick whispered as he snatched JJ by the collar placing him in the front of the pack.
Suddenly six men showed up from out of nowhere. Two of the men had guns the other four began to split up, two to the left, two to the right. Maverick laughed there was eight of them not to mention the power they possessed. One of the men on the right threw a power ball straight at Maverick, who moved causing the blast to hit JJ on his forearm.
“Get down!” Maverick shout as he returned his own Powerball at the group of men. Luckily he took out one, before one of the men began to shoot. Dominick stretching his hand out towards the man with gun, started to chant causing the gun to glow red-hot. The goon let the gun drop from his hand as he screamed out in pain.
With a snap of his fingers, Maverick snapped the man’s neck, that’s when all hell broke loose. They were able to take out five of the six remaining men, losing the other two in a cloud of smoke. The men who attacked were no match for Maverick and his small army.
There were two passageways, Maverick signaled Jonathan to take three of the security with him down the corridor to the left, as he and Dominick along with the other two took the right. Maverick turned to JJ and said, “Hide and don’t think of escaping because, I will find you and kill you on sight.” JJ just nodded as he sat on the floor behind some boxes.
They were midway down the corridor when Maverick felt something hit the back side of his neck reaching for the spot he found a small dart, before he could utter a word to Dominick, he saw Dom crumble to the floor. Maverick’s vision became blurred and a vile
taste laid on his tongue. “Poison!” he gagged before he blacked out.
When the trio entered the warehouse they saw the bodies scattered about and knew that Maverick and the boys had been there. But before they could comment they heard a whimpering sound coming from behind the boxes.
“Who’s there!” shouted Alivia.
JJ stuck his head out and began to cry, “Oh, thank God it’s you Miss.”
Silver asked, “What happened to you?”
“I’m hurt, hurt bad too,” he began to cry again.
“Aunt Grace, can you do something for him? JJ where is Maverick?” Silver asked looking around at the carnage.
“He went that way,” JJ pointed down the hall, as Grace opened his shirt to look at his wound.
“It’s just a graze I can heal it but you must stay still,” she said. JJ was squirming around like a small child that skinned his knee.
“Will it take long if so we can go ahead?” Alivia asked wanting to find Dominick.
“I’m almost finished, Alivia. Try a little patience, please.”
When Grace completed her task Silver grabbed JJ’s hand and tried to pull him to his feet, but he would not move, he only shook his head.
“What is it?” Silver shouted.
“He told me not to move, or he’d kill me. Not to move for any reason. Not to move.” JJ cried.
“Okay, okay we get the message, you can’t fucking move.” Alivia shouted, annoyed with JJ’s weakness.
“Let’s go we’ve spent enough time here.” Silver stated quietly.
As Silver entered the narrow corridor, she knew something was amiss. “Something is wrong, I feel it!”
Alivia stopped, bent down and said, “I know something is wrong. This is my lucky sapphire, I gave it to Dom last night.”
“Oh God, what could have …” Aunt Grace covered her mouth not wanting to say any more than she had. She inhaled deeply hoping the gesture would give her the strength to face whatever was to come.
